Batton down the hatches - recession ahoy. What a shitstorm.

SillySallySingsSongs · 15/01/2019 22:52

If I have undeestood Richard Burgon MP Labour right, they are just going to keep bring no confidence votes in his words 'again and again and again'

Absolutely useless. Hmm

Iflyaway · 15/01/2019 22:53

The fall in the pound has cost this country more than all the EU contributions of the last 40 years.

Is that really true?

Yes, Even Cornwall And Wales voted Leave when the EU gave them more money than Westminster....

It will fall even more soon..

SillySallySingsSongs · 15/01/2019 22:55

Links to proof of this.

littlebillie · 15/01/2019 22:59

Vanilla it's in legislation from 2000 as they need to see if they asking the right question or series of questions. Also asking Yes or No is pretty stupid as they are such emotional words

⬆️ tosh

littlebillie · 15/01/2019 23:04

The damage will be in more the companies moving to Europe for a saner outlook. Though France is helping us look good at the moment

KennDodd · 15/01/2019 23:21

What will happen next?

I think No Deal catastrophe followed by civil war.

I fucking hate what that Tory referendum has done and the people who have enabled this.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 15/01/2019 23:49

Christ what a fucking mess! I'm in Oz and work in a very international company, most of the Europeans I work with are just looking on in unmitigated horror at what is going on, they can't quite believe it! Everyone seems to think that you are shooting yourselves in the stomach never mind the foot, and pretty much all of them have said I bet you're bloody glad to be out of it, which I am! Australians seem pretty baffled by it all too, several have asked me why so many people voted to leave, which is a tricky question to answer but I do my best. I really hope it works out for you all, but I can't see how it will.

butterfly56 · 16/01/2019 00:23

It's an absolute shambles and the Tories have done their best to bring this country to it's knees over Brexit.
The people of the UK were sold some cock and bull referendum story by David Cameron that in the end had absolutely no chance of succeeding in any shape or form.
The whole process should be stopped now.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 16/01/2019 01:04

Can anyone say they are surprised?

It's not like we didn't know this was going to happen so I don't understand all the shock horror reaction. It was a foregone conclusion - it was never going to get through.

Peregrina · 16/01/2019 01:21

I wonder why May delayed the vote then? Did she hope to get more people onside? For the person who said it was an OK deal - it wasn't a deal, it was more a starting point for buying more time, as I see it.

Bluntness100 · 16/01/2019 06:00

Are you sure?...I have no confidence in the government or the parliamentary process after this debacle. But I truly hope you are right

She's all but said she won't do no deal and parliament and the eu widely know the catastrophic effect it would have and a huge majority don't won't it. I think Bercow will move to permit the change the legislation if she tries to give the people the option of no deal. But she won't do it, she's many things but she's not stupid. Even sadiq Khan saying, as said, it has to be this deal (albeit slightly amended) or stay in that's asked at a referendum.

First off she's going to see if she can find something through consultation that thr majority will support, but I don't think it's possible, but who knows. If she can't, it has to be a second referendum. This is not what leave voters voted for, they were misled, so a second referendum is valid and parliament is in gridlock.

Bottom line though is 29 March needs to come off the table, as we can't find a new deal and have it passed into legislation by then, it's simply not logistically possible.

Wotev · 16/01/2019 06:04

Why did 432 of them reject the deal? What are the things they don't like in the deal?

Wotev · 16/01/2019 06:07

I'm also guessing that they were all a little shocked at the amount of Noes!
It's like the day after Brexit all over again. Nobody expected this!

I actually think that a lot of people are not being very honest about how they feel about Brexit.

millyonth · 16/01/2019 06:14

By people do you mean MPS Wotev? What do you mean?

Wotev · 16/01/2019 06:20

By people, I mean everyone. The loudest voices are Remainers, but from talking to friends in one to one conversations, a lot of people are Brexiters and just want out. It's not the EU per se, it's immigration. That seems to be the only issue people have. There's no discussion permitted on here among Brexiters, so you'd be forgiven for thinking everyone is a Remainer. But are they?

Wotev · 16/01/2019 06:26

I think there is bias on here also because a lot of people who post on here are EU immigrants, who wouldn't have had a vote. That, or they are working in multinational companies, where Brexit will affect them. So the MN demographic would be Remain.
What I've found in my own personal bit of research is that it's English working class who are Brexiters. 100% of guys working in construction for example, would be pro Brexit.

People seem to forget that a majority voted for Brexit. A majority.

Peoples' opinions do not appear to have changed either. In fact, I would say, that people are even more vehemently pro Brexit than they were when they voted.

Bluntness100 · 16/01/2019 06:31

I don't think anyone knows, so many people didn't vote, and I'd say more leavers have changed to remain, than remainers have changed to leave. There are also a lot of younger people now eligible to vote and many of them want to remain, but I don't think it would be a landslide for remain by any means.

I think the British public just want it settled more than anything else.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/01/2019 06:34

The thing is brexit won’t be “settled” for years. Last night was a withdrawal agreement, trade deals are still to come. Proves how ill informed people are. This is not the cancellation of a gym membership.

GoFiguire · 16/01/2019 06:44

wotev

Wotev · 16/01/2019 06:46

I voted to Leave. I still want to leave. It's not the EU that I want to leave, it's the immigration I want to stop. I accept I'll get torn asunder on here for saying that, but that is why I voted to leave. I have been a victim of crime 6 times. Not one of the perpetrators was English born. They were, in no particular order, Hungarian, Somalian, Nigerian, Polish, Lithuanian and Romanian. I'm not racist. I couldn't give two hoots where you're from. But something's got to give. Something is not right here. What this vote was won on was immigration. I'm wondering what this deal is doing to address that. I'm wondering whether it didn't address it sufficiently, which is why there were so many Noes.

Namechangeragain01 · 16/01/2019 06:50

I don't know any Leavers who have changed their minds, in fact they are more certain of their opinion than before.

Wotev · 16/01/2019 06:52

Namechanger, yes, that has been my experience talking to people too.
