Christopher Hope@christopherhope

NEW Two-thirds of Conservative MPs - around 240 MPs - have voted, a MP tellls me.
....

Two Brexiteer MPs have told me more than 100 MPs will say that have no confidence in the PM.
One said it would be around 120 another said "I would not be surprised if it is more than 100". #Toryleadership

< around 100 NC looks likely, but how many of the 315 MPs would abstain ? >

Greensleeves · 12/12/2018 19:21

I can't bear Soubry. She's an attention-seeking media whore with no integrity. Thatcher's naughty little sister.

Caroline Lucas, Mhairi Black and Joanna Cherry would be my picks.

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2018 19:21

Laura Kuenssberg @bbclaurak
About 80 percent of Tory MP s are said to have voted

I wish they'd get a move on.

Some people seem not to realise that the Tories don't need to win the next election to end up in power again. They've been in power nearly a decade, having managed to lose two of the three GEs in that time. They can easily continue to fail and still be in government.

TatianaLarina · 12/12/2018 19:24

I’d quite like to wake up on Christmas day and find John Major is prime minister.

How weird is that?

Pass the peas Norma.

No hope of catching up. Things are moving really fast....

turnipsaretheonlyveg · 12/12/2018 19:28

Cameron should be on a tour round the country, in stocks and a supply of rotten turnips provided.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/12/2018 19:28

Yes, the Tories stay in power most of the time and are rolling back the welfare state a bit more every year.
Anyone claiming Tories are too centrist has obviously fallen off the right wing of the world

lonelyplanetmum · 12/12/2018 19:28

I think it's time we joined the celebrity politician conveyor belt... if only David Attenborough were younger.

turnipsaretheonlyveg · 12/12/2018 19:29

Well Gary Lineker must have earned a spot.

bellinisurge · 12/12/2018 19:30

@mathanxiety - we're all taking time out from Brexit to see if TM wins a no confidence vote among Tory MPs.We should find out after 8.
Pretty quiet day, really

Just watching Sky news. Reporter says he spoke to a May loyalist and asked how confident he was. His reply ‘The only thing I’m confident about these days is that many of my colleagues are liars’.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/12/2018 19:30

Nah, we need politicians who actually know things about
e.g. international trade, trade deals, non-tariff barriers, phytosanitary checks, where our food comes from, flights, shipping, EURATOM, Galileo .....

BigChocFrenzy · 12/12/2018 19:31

How much are these lying bastards lying ?

Kate Wilseaa@katewilsea* (Sky)

Our tally stands at 183 saying they back May. Will be interesting to see final figure...

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2018 19:32

Will be interesting to see if this is anywhere near correct

Election Maps UK @ electionmapsuk
Current #VoteOfNoConfidence Estimates:

Confidence: 210 (72%)
No Confidence: 82 (28%)

No data for 25 other MPs.

That seems optimistic

BigChoc-
The DUP would have to be very sure of retaining their current MP numbers if they were to force an election. I am not sure if their trusty old dog whistle - 'Unionism above all else' - election campaign strategy will work in NI any more, given opinion polls on Brexit. Small farmers - and lots of them could up to now be relied upon to vote DUP - are motivated by financial self interest above all. They could swing back to the UUP or even hold their noses and vote SDLP or more smartly, SF. Or spoil votes or not vote at all.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 12/12/2018 19:33

Hazard when we voted for croissants two years ago did you specify the sort of croissants you were going to deliver? How do you know your croissants are the exact type of croissants the croissanteers want? Are your croissants the best possible croissants? Could someone else have negotiated a better croissant? If we don’t support your croissants are we in danger of having no croissants at all?

BCF, those things can be studied and understood provided a person has reasonable intelligence and sufficient time. The current crop of MPs seem to lack morality. I'm not convinced that is as easily learned.
