I so wanted Ken to win the 2005 contest, but he was eliminated early on - too moderate for the MPs -
and pig-poker Cameron won

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2018 18:51

Beth Rigby@bethrigby
Numbers watch. Lots of expectation management going on. If May keeps no confidence down to 80/90, o reckon her team would be delighted. A vote against her heading to 120/130 would be bad news. Suggests she’s losing support of centre-ground MPs too

Did the MPs see this beforehand ?
Voters as a whole and especially Tories, want her to stay.

NEW YouGov poll

Tory voters back Theresa May to say 58 per cent to 28 per cent - poll of over 3,000 voters taken today

Westminstenders: Dear Santa for Christmas I'd like...
IsobelKarev · 12/12/2018 18:54

Surely if she wins this there's pretty much zero possibility of losing a confidence vote in HoC? I can't see anyone in her party risking her being leader in a snap election.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/12/2018 18:57

It's the DUP loons who would cause a GE, if there is one, not Tories

The party with 290k vote and only 1,000 party members 🤯 holding 65 million to ransom

The one hope then is that they no longer hold the balance of power in a new Parliament, so whoever is PM can say
" FUCK OFF, DUP"

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2018 18:57

Jim Pickard @pickardje
MPs can't agree whether May promised to step down or not before the next election, she is a verbal rorschach illusion

Tony Connelly@tconnellyRTE

Senior EU official: when it comes to the Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration the backstop is clear [ie that it is not designed to be permanent].
It is “not true” that the EU wants to place the UK in some kind of prison.
...
Senior EU official: impossible to renegotiate the November 25 deal. “Everything else we can discuss”.

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2018 19:00

James Forsyth @jgforsyth
Theresa May began her speech to the ‘22 by saying ‘good morning’; suspect a reflection of the pace of the day she has had

face-palm

Ross Kempsall @rosskempsell
May told 22 there is a legally binding solution coming to backstop

Errr OK...

I want a unity government with Ken Clarke as PM, Vince Cable as Chancellor and Alistair Campbell on comms. Who's with me?

BigChocFrenzy · 12/12/2018 19:03

imo, She will carry on until Brexit is resolved, if she possibly can
because she thinks that is her job.

She'll step down well before 2022, to let in a new leader and con the public that there is a new kinder Tory face, instead of the usual hard right bastards.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/12/2018 19:04

Chiara OK if we can have Soubry, Starmer, Umunna too

MissMalice · 12/12/2018 19:07

I’ve gone right off Soubry the last couple of days. She needs to start voting the way she speaks.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/12/2018 19:07

The ballot paper - not too difficult even for Bullingdon maths

Life expectancy drops for Britain's poor for first time since Second World War
Concerns have been raised as the average age of death stalls across the country and sinks for those in deprived areas

Thanks Red.

Hasenstein · 12/12/2018 19:11

I want a unity government with Ken Clarke as PM, Vince Cable as Chancellor and Alistair Campbell on comms.

OK if we can have Soubry, Starmer, Umunna too

And with Hillary Benn and Yvette Cooper, you've got the makings of an excellent front bench.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/12/2018 19:14

yes and I definitely want Wollaston too.
And Nick Soames already offered to resign his seat and let Ruth Davidson stand.

Sarah Wollaston MP@sarahwollaston

I hope the ERG lose badly and we can see the back of their pompous threats for a year
.....
I’m not voting for more chaos in the midst of a constitutional crisis.
I will be voting for the PM to stay in place.
We don’t need a new leader but we do need the leader we have to acknowledge the Parliamentary gridlock & remove her red lines to a #Peoplesvote
.....

Anna Soubry MP@AnnaSoubry

“Her only real chance of saving her deal and her job is to call a referendum”
@thetimes reaches the right conclusion
@peoplesvoteuk is the only way out of #BrexitChaos Give the people the #FinalSay

ChiaraRimini · 12/12/2018 19:15

Yes BCF and Hasenstein!

turnipsaretheonlyveg · 12/12/2018 19:16

Much to my total astonishment I find myself writing that we should find space for John Major somewhere.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/12/2018 19:17

Well if we are going for ex-PMs, Major is fine, even Blair if we attach his testicles to a lie detector
However, I veto Cameron
