Brexit

Is it me or is no Brexit looking a whole lot more likely tonight?

If no deal is pretty much off the table following the parliamentary votes tonight then the choice is ‘shit deal’ or no Brexit.

It’s clear which Remainers would prefer but what about Leavers?

They did project fear though didn't they?

Remain was a poor campaign and lacked emphasis of the benefits of EU membership, but some elements of “Project Fear” have now happened (fall in value of sterling, rise in food prices, BoE intervention required, loss of GDP, loss of FDI) and we haven’t left yet.

bellinisurge · 08/12/2018 11:59

Thing is, while Leavers saw it as Project Fear, turns out to have been Project This is What Will Happen .
No one likes to admit they were scammed. There's an FB post doing the rounds sponsored by the Government with TM's deal. The comments just prove my point. People doing what the Americans call "doubling down" on the Leave scam because they can't bear to admit they were duped. No doubt their FB posts were full of Leaver shit and they don't want to own up to their own naivety.

{I thought something to do with manufacturing sector collapse also had a profit margin in it,}
Yes this is a more complicated phase and depends on ruthlessness to accept that workers will lose jobs and a general 'upscaling' of many negative aspects of peoples lives. Pretty Woman the film hinted at this sort of activity in Richard Gere's 'job'. Buying and selling companies as if the workers were as valuable as the chairs or widgets on shelves.
This sort of activity exists, repugnant that it may feel at a personal level but seen on a global scale the 'loss' of say car manufacturing in the UK (as was the coal industry) is 'just business'.
BMW and Nissan for example are currently constrained by EU workers rights. Dropping out of the EU, the rights could be dropped overnight so closures could just be 'tough luck' with next to no compensation. While I am not suggesting it would happen, but the possibility arises.

lljkk there are also plans afoot just prior to the referendum to improve the transparency of financial movements and stores by individuals. This is so people would be able to see things like tax avoidance, who is paying for polical lobbying, funding war lords or terrorism, who has interests in the game etc. By coming out of the EU I suspect that some individuals hope to benefit by continuing these trades in a murky half light.

Just watched the Channel Four Brexit debate. Caroline Lucas spoke sense and made the 3 brexit advocates look utterly hopeless.

Bearbehind · 09/12/2018 20:52

I’m watching the tigers because I’m thoroughly pissed of with it all.

They can do what they fucking want for all I care now.

This country literally could not organise a piss up in a brewery.

I just hope it really hurts those who voted for this shit show.

Well the worst thing is it will hurt them and everyone else who’s not very well off. The price of food going up would be a nightmare for me and I’m not even that badly off.

It’s really scary.

Bearbehind · 09/12/2018 21:44

If there was any justice the fuckers who chose this would pay the highest price.

Sadly it won’t work like that.

OP posts:
SilverDoe · 09/12/2018 21:49

It’s true :(

I’m just hoping every day to hear that it’s called off, however I really think that even if we had another referendum we could still end up voting leave again, such is the climate. I just want it to be over with either way so we can all see where we stand, as the anticipation and unknown is so stressful.

Daisymay2 · 10/12/2018 18:10

Well the betting odds are now in favour of remain.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 10/12/2018 18:27

How does that even happen though? No one has the guts or power to make it happen. Parliment isn't even working!

Yaralie · 10/12/2018 18:41

TM has pulled the HOC vote on her deal. What a travesty of democracy.

Bluntness100 · 10/12/2018 18:51

This is such a shocking mess, I still can't get past the fact rhe British public were asked to vote for something so critical with no information available on what it will look like. And here we are two years later. In the shit. Because 37 percent of the total adult population voted for it, 63 percent either said no or didn't vote.

And now, whichever way we cut it we are going to hurt. And the people who can least afford it will hurt the most. Cost of living through the roof, job losses as business leave, it's an almighty fucking mess.

If there is any justice we will have a second referendum and stand together and put a stop to this utter disaster.

1tisILeClerc · 10/12/2018 20:07

Remainers at the original vote knew exactly what they could expect and if Cameron had then just shut up for a while things would have been hunky dorey, with maybe a few more squabbles between some Tories, business as usual.
