There's a deal.

The press are over excited.

May has united the country.

Everyone hates it.
(Apart from David Allen Green)

Parliament might yet reject it.

Nothing is yet decided and everything is still to be sorted.

No deal is by far the best outcome - like why do you guys want to become a vassal state of the EU?

Many reasons, but just for starters to really forge ahead with no deal Britain would have to break up the Union and cut NI loose.

Not likely to happen. ‘No deal’ just means initial chaos then lots of temporary deals all governed by decisions made by the EU without input from the U.K.

The essential factors that have made it difficult for May to find an effective solution don’t change.

Gove as Brexit Secretary.

Is it wrong at this point to think this isn't a bad idea. Or am I just being ridiculously naive?

Thanks Misti - that makes perfect (if perverse) sense

BigChocFrenzy · 15/11/2018 12:27

island Our raw materials for industry are mostly bought in dollars
So is the food we buy from countries outside the EU
and the other goods

Inflation matters

Hazardswan · 15/11/2018 12:27

Island

You may not care that no deal will kill people but plenty of us do. What can I tell you I have this weird thing called humanity...

islandinsummer5566 · 15/11/2018 12:27

nospend - yadda yadda yadda, heard it all before ad nauseum during the ref campaign, the people then spoke, do you remember which argument WON OUT or do you need reminding again..

ElenadeClermont · 15/11/2018 12:27

I am not strong enough today to explain the ins and outs of imports and exports and their effect on living standards. [sigh]

RedToothBrush · 15/11/2018 12:28

Adam Bienkov @AdamBienkov
Downing Street not denying that Gove is being lined up for Brexit Secretary.

Red, given how keen our visitor is I think you might be right. Hard to dismiss Gove as a closet Remainer, isn't it?

prettybird · 15/11/2018 12:29

No deal is by far the best outcome - like why do you guys want to become a vassal state of the EU?

Maybe because people, even if they themselves are not dependent on medications, don't want others to die as a result of No Deal.

.....as Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, warned the Cabinet yesterday Sad

Oh I love a well thought out, well reasoned argument..

islandinsummer5566 · 15/11/2018 12:29

Hazard: just emotional rhetoric, how the F will no deal 'kill' people

islandinsummer5566 · 15/11/2018 12:30

nospend : you mean like you guys chirping away in your Guardianista echo chamber....

derxa · 15/11/2018 12:31

I remember that summer. A strange mist descended over Ireland and everybody forgot it existed. It was like Brigadoon but without bagpipes.

Excellent comparison @merrymouse

RedToothBrush · 15/11/2018 12:33

Hard not to argue that Gove was an opportunist who crapped his pants and recanted, when he looked over the Brexit cliff.

I wouldn't call him a remainer. I would call him a leaver who ultimately got stiffed by the lack of clear definition of what leave meant. Daniel Hannan is in a similar boat. Daniel Hannan will be looking for a safe Tory seat soon enough too.

Island

Ok you scream emotional rhetoric at type one diabetics then.

And to my DP who takes over 20 meds a day.

Summarise people's existence to emotional rhetoric.

Because that's super intelligent.

MissBartlettsconscience · 15/11/2018 12:34

Maidenhead will be up for grabs pretty soon!

Somerville · 15/11/2018 12:35

Nice to see that the Taoiseach is bothering to talk directly, as a priority, to the political leaders who represent the majority of people in Northern Ireland, unlike the British Prime Minister. (Sinn Fein’s leader for Northern Ireland Michelle O’Neill, SDLP leader Colm Eastwood, The Alliance Party’s Stephen Farry and Green Party leader Steven Agnew- joint meeting with Varadkar this morning.)

The Taoiseach said he hadn't spoken to DUP leader Arlene Foster but: “The door is always open and the phone is always on.” I've never heard May make an offer like that to Sinn Fein.

RedToothBrush · 15/11/2018 12:35

you mean like you guys chirping away in your Guardianista echo chamber....

You are obviously new here. You clearly are not aware of how pissed off many on MN are with the Guardian. But do carry on.

In the meantime, we'll just follow todays events as we haven't really got the time to be indulging those who come out with nonsense.

Events you see.

Gove and Hannan are fine, they helped us win the ref - perhaps seem more moderate than others but still, true patriots - that is far more than can be said for the current Tory Party and of couse the unmentionable ones, u know, the one's that have a leader that lives in a friggin allotment
