There's a deal.

The press are over excited.

May has united the country.

Everyone hates it.
(Apart from David Allen Green)

Parliament might yet reject it.

Nothing is yet decided and everything is still to be sorted.

I've just reminded dd to make sure she is registered to vote in her uni town, where her vote will actually make a difference. Happily she is clearly my daughter as her immediate response was that she did almost as soon as she moved in.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 15/11/2018 09:45

Every time I think Brexit can't get any worse, somebody reveals a whole new layer of shit.

What the hell has Raab been doing these past few months?
As somebody said on twitter, Brexit Secretary is turning into Defence Against the Dark Arts job.

Hazardswan · 15/11/2018 09:45

smile I think times like these alcohol stops working, kinda hoping we'd rock together as a crowd and someone could stroke my hair to stop me crying.

In other news the price of antidepressants will sky rocket as I'm demanding all of them.

DGRossetti · 15/11/2018 09:45

If the past year and a half have taught us anything, it's that Theresa May seems - somehow - to just stay there.

Xenia · 15/11/2018 09:45

If we crash out some brexiteers (not all) get what they want so they will certainly support that route and it will be so important to them they won't mind under which party it is.

I don't think the EU would accept us back in and a second referendum is more likely to be to leave than stay even more so this time round so the best solution as May said last night is that we leave with this deal.

RedToothBrush · 15/11/2018 09:46

David Allen Green @davidallengreen
Dominic Raab, a solicitor, has spent months negotiating an 500 highly complex legal instrument...and then resigns?

The fool.

Tony Goode #PeoplesVote #ABTV #FBPE @Tonygoode
Probably took Rabb this long to understand what had been negotiated. "Oh bugger, best resign."

Obviously qualified to be the next PM.

Well Corbyn and May met last night. Presumably she asked him to support the deal?

BigChocFrenzy · 15/11/2018 09:47

Labour statement, clearly pushing for a GE:

" The government is falling apart before our eyes
as for a second time the Brexit secretary has refused to back the prime minister’s Brexit plan.
This so-called deal has unravelled before our eyes.

This is the twentieth Minister to resign from Theresa May’s government in her two year premiership.

Theresa Mayy^ has no authority left and is clearly incapable of delivering a Brexit deal that commands even the support of her cabinet - let alone parliament and the people of our country."

DGRossetti · 15/11/2018 09:47

Well Corbyn and May met last night. Presumably she asked him to support the deal?

While Keir Stamer was saying they won't ...

Not just the Tories that are confused.

Xenia · 15/11/2018 09:47

Raab's resignation looks fairly politically motivated. He is a strange brexiter actually - Brazilian wife, father a Czech jew, Raab himself an ex Linklaters solicitor; that is more a background and personal life of a remainer.

KennDodd · 15/11/2018 09:48

Another problem with a GE Tory members are rabid leavers (comfortable retired) I reckon 'no deal' would be in the manifesto. Even if Labour stood on a Remain or soft Brexit ticket, they've got fucking Corbyn in charge, and remain supporting tories won't fucking vote for him because he's a fucking twat

I need a lie down.

order-order.com/2018/11/15/resignation-downing-street/
Guido understands that Nikki Da Costa, Downing Street’s director of legislative affairs has resigned. The position was created last year to deal with the difficulties of pushing through tricky legislation without a majority in the Commons. Her main focus was coordinating legislation in Parliament to ensure passage of both Brexit and domestic bills. When Guido contacted her this morning she was very flustered and directed questions to the PM’s press secretary.

Guido Fawkes @GuidoFawkes
UPDATED: Confirmation "This decision was very hard.”

May has now lost a key person to get a deal through parliament. Even if she is replaced, they will not be up to speed with whats required. This weakens May.

Also who the heck does May replace Raab with as Brexit secretary?

A general election simply takes up the precious little time we have left to try to find a solution to this mess.

Quite frankly the thought of a labour government under Corbyn scares me as much as the thought of crashing out. Particularly since we'll then end up back at square one with no obvious solution anyway.

I'm voting for Hugh Grant as PM. He did a good dance in Downing Street in Love Actually.

James Patrick
‏*@J*_amesp
The “national interest” line boils down to this:

There is no better deal on offer while leaving and leaving with no deal will kill people.

That’s the shit sandwich the government has had to bite and at this point anyone who votes down the deal is opting to kill people.

And the thing I shouldn’t need to add is that the sensible option is to cancel this sorry mess and try and pick up the fragmented pieces of Britain and start again.

However, that has to come from the government, as provoking a GE will see an ERG Tory government or a Populist Labour government intent on Brexit in much the same way.

So the second part of the shit sandwich is that by accepting the deal we prolong the existing misery until 2020

Butterymuffin · 15/11/2018 09:53

I actually think May did as well as she could. I respect her for that. As a life long labour voter who hated what she did as Home Secretary.

I'm with you on that smile. She's still standing. And has been under such sustained pressure for so long.

RedToothBrush · 15/11/2018 09:53

Prof Brian Cox was suggesting he'll go into politics.

He makes my teeth itch, but he's sane.

Right now I'll take sane.

Why is she making another statement? Just a more rehearsed version of last night?

MyBrexitIsIll · 15/11/2018 09:53

www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/nov/14/brexit-deal-key-points-from-the-draft-withdrawal-agreement

Brexit basics: Key points from the draft deal

A nice summary that raises one question.
Why all the angst about the backstop with NI when

  • it will only apply if we can’t find a solution/long term agreement with the EU by 2020
  • we can get out of it (albeit with the EU agreement so it might be quite hard - but then the U.K. has proven repeatedly it wasn’t to be trusted so....)
TheElementsSong · 15/11/2018 09:55

Also who the heck does May replace Raab with as Brexit secretary?

There are 17.4 million people who reckon they’re aces and skillz.

Because its protocol.

And she just loves giving us all a good car crash.

lonelyplanetmum · 15/11/2018 09:56

Quite frankly the thought of a labour government under Corbyn scares me as much as the thought of crashing out.

But Corbyn is only for 5 years or less. He's older anyway, and there are all the others in the party to moderate, it's not just him.

Crashing out has knock on effect for decades.

BigChocFrenzy · 15/11/2018 09:58

Corbyn is a lifelong Brexiter
He would be happy with a crash out - blame the Tories and keep his wing of the party in control for decades
