There's a deal.

The press are over excited.

May has united the country.

Everyone hates it.
(Apart from David Allen Green)

Parliament might yet reject it.

Nothing is yet decided and everything is still to be sorted.

Steve is happy:

Steve Baker MP @SteveBakerHW
A colleague tells me,

“This is far worse than I feared. I feel very badly let down.”

I predict this deal, like a bad budget, will be in bits in a couple of days

Another writes, “Truly the worst possible deal we could have collectively imagined”

I think my general feeling is that if the ERG hates something, then it can't be THAT awful. I might not like it, but its going to be better than my worst fears.

OP posts:
BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 21:34

woman What do you mean ?
The WA would be a massive defeat for the ERG - it's why they are so mad

All their dreams of a Bonfire of regulations
Their FTA with the USA to make us the 51st state

All gone, while we stay in transition and the vote for Rejoin increases

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 21:36

red After the transition is extended - probably by several years - I see Norway ++ as quite likely
SM+CU+passporting+other goodies

A hell of a lot better than No deal, or Canada ++

How Brexit Cabinet erupted with a 'massive bust-up' between Esther McVey and Theresa May

Which one would you cheer on in a fight?

OP posts:
BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 21:38

and Rejoin is quite possible
whereas once we get tied into a US FTA, we can't - they would destroy the country with punitive clauses

It would be designed - by the ERG / Atlantic Bridge / US hard right - to keep us out of the EU in perpetuity

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2018 21:40

BigChoc, IF May gets it through parliament.

Until we get past that point, I'm really not thinking about what happens afterwards. The Withdrawal Agreement is the big thing.

I don't think my nerves could handle a remain / no deal show down in March.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 14/11/2018 21:41

Yes, I want to avoid being tied to the US in ANY way. Trump would fuck us so bigly.

OP posts:
woman11017 · 14/11/2018 21:43

BCF I mean the EU Withdrawal Act already passed. It's mandated total executive control. JC has been gambling on winning it. It's just red or blue fascism. V little difference now.

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2018 21:45

Laura Kuenssberg @bbclaurak
Still unclear what Raab is going to do.... he is the Brexit Secretary after all but it sounds like he wasn't exactly enthusiastic in the meeting - chatter about his position too - let's see - conflicting stuff out there right now

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 21:46

Irish Toaiseach, Leo Varadkar has called the deal “satisfactory”

'We have reached a satisfactory outcome on all key Irish priorities.

We do now have the insurance policy of the backstop if all other efforts fail to produce a better solution.'

Talk of tears at cabinet (not May). Very emotional exchanges

Ooo I wonder who this could possibly be?

Liam???

Wink

This isn't even subtle!

OP posts:

Frank Fields has said he can support the deal, so that's alright then Hmm

Arlene Foster, having met with May, has now gone to a meeting with ... Kate Hoey. Now there's a gruesome twosome for you.

Hasenstein · 14/11/2018 21:49

Liam???

He's rushed off home for a bit of comforting Werrity sniffing.

The hierarchy of caucasian emotings. They can fuck right off.

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 21:52

Yup, red If the WA is voted down, we are in grave danger of No Deal and disaster
Only a v small chance atm it would push May into a revoke ... and that she would survive long enough to do so

and woman after No Deal, we would find out what US/UK far right rule in the UK would really be like

  • up to now it has all been with furry gloves on and the Tory centre in charge of domestic policy

Don't stand down quite yet, Brexit-watchers - only one source, but hearing we may yet see a senior ministerial resignation tonight.

BCF 120 000 of our own citizens have been killed by them this year.
We have no functioning NHS, transport sysem, legal system or education system. This country is already f**ed.
Just more will starve and freeze to death on the streets.

Dominic Casciani @BBCDomC
Article 62 Paragraph 1(b) ain't catchy but it's important. It's the deal allowing the UK to still use the European Arrest Warrant to boot out criminals and bring others home to justice. After the transition, the UK and EU will (in theory) have a new security treaty...

One big macro #brexit deal thought.

The never-ending backstop locks the U.K. into a customs union.

But it also takes away the crash out to WTO/MFN world. Can’t happen.

That’s a huge shift if this deal goes though. And a huge loss of leverage on EU side.

OP posts:
BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 22:09

imo, Mcvey is the "senior minister on resignation watch"

WOW, shouted down by the Chief Whip AND by the Cabinet Secretary - a civil servant

https://www.buzzfeed.com/alexwickham/theresa-may-cabinet-support-brexit-deal

Work and pensions secretary Esther McVey was the most strongly opposed to the agreement.

Sources said she raised complaints about the backstop, that the UK could be prevented from striking free trade deals, and that there would be “chaos” if the government loses the vote on the deal in the Commons.
She told the room she “can see lots of trouble on the way”.

McVey was also involved in a “massive row”
after twice demanding the Cabinet be allowed to vote on the decision so ministers’ opposition could be put on the record.

She was “shouted down” by the cabinet secretary Mark Sedwill and chief whip Julian Smith,
a Cabinet source said.

It is not too different from the software Brexit many of we remainers thought might be the best of the various awful outcomes.

Let us hope Labour, the scots and the DUP all realise it is the best option and pass it through Parliament. Despit eh useful links and have in the 585 pages up on my screen it is too much detail to analyse at once. Bits I have looked at so far I am seeing people online elsewhere not necessarily accurately representing for their own ends.
