Brexit

Brexiteers, if there was a 'People's Vote' how would you vote?

For me? I'd flatly vote No Deal.

Would others vote to stay in the EU or agree to Teresa May's deal?

Everyone I know who voted Leave would still vote Leave (the same goes for those who voted Remain) so I'd be really curious to see what the outcome of a 2nd referendum would generate.

OP posts:
LewisMam · 16/11/2018 15:08

The crime and everything else was just politically expedient for the leave leaders to highlight, it pandered to the prejudices of the vote that they wanted to motivate
Yep. And Remain did bugger all to correct that misinformation. They should have been telling people that no, the Poles won’t have to go home, and actually the immigration situation will be worse for various reasons. But they didn’t. They completely failed to address immigration concerns and just whinged on about economic consequences. While loads of people sat there going “I don’t have a job, I can’t afford a house, so I don’t care about economic consequences, and those who own businesses need taking down a peg because why should they be wealthy when I’m unemployed and broke. I’m voting Leave because they’ll stop immigration and maybe I’ll get a job when all the Poles have been booted out”.

I’m still not convinced the misinformation has been addressed head-on. There are an awful lot of people who still think that Brexit will solve immigration.

Due to the 'excitement' yesterday I actually had Mrs Mays HoC session on for an hour. The fact that nearly a third of the HoC members were STILL spouting 'Will of the people', Taking back our borders' and 'getting sovereignty back' was truly concerning. Especially so as they are going to be voting on whatever 'deal' the Tories finalise in the next week or two.
Regarding the young men trying to get on trucks to the UK, Not sure if they are English or French speakers but getting into the French job/healthcare 'system' is quite long and tedious and I don't know if walking into a hospital works the same as with the UK NHS.

India 'demanded' 100,000 work visas before taking trade talks seriously, so they are 'on hold'.
Russia was talking about more visas in return for trade too.

I would vote remain.

@millsbynight

but they didn't accurately predict a Trump win in 2016 did they. I also made a decent chunk of cash betting on a Trump win, especially his win in Florida. Opinion polls just aren't that reliable these days.

Actually polls before the EU referendum fipflopped between Leave and Remain before the referendum. It was similar with Clinton/Trump in the US and Clinton actually got the most votes. As I understand it EU opinion polling is also thought to be more accurate now because they have the 2016 referendum as a reference point.

Aquilla · 16/11/2018 16:06

No Deal.

bellinisurge · 16/11/2018 16:40

Why is that the best choice @Aquilla and are you prepared for food and medicine shortages, however short term . I don't think they would be short term but plenty of No Deal supporters think this.

twofingerstoEverything · 16/11/2018 17:19

Loving the way the 'no deal' folks come onto the thread, say literally two words and bugger off. They really do have no arguments and nothing to contribute to the discussion. They're like those talking dolls that have a couple of stock phrases programmed in. You pull the string on their backs and they say 'no deal', 'no deal.'

1tisILeClerc · 16/11/2018 17:27

At Brexit day the UK has to cough up around £20 Billion if is 'crashes out' with no deal. If it stays for a transition period then it will be about £39 Billion. That is already established and is for ongoing commitments. Of course it won't be payable in one lump.
There are some nutters who claim they will simply refuse to pay. That would be a seriously bad move of course as it will 'annoy' the EU (think, refuse to allow food supplies) AND signal to any other countries that the UK is not to be trusted.

Jason118 · 16/11/2018 17:39

To be fair the OP subject is How would you vote, not Why Smile

1tisILeClerc · 16/11/2018 18:01

Granted the question does not ask why, but if that is the case the whole concept of this thread would be near pointless as it would simply be a whole bunch of internet 'randoms' saying Leave or remain.
As a 'poll' it would be totally unquantifiable thus meaningless.

ADisrespectfulWoman · 16/11/2018 18:04

I can only speak for myself, but, as one of the "no deal" posters, I'm sick and tired of seeing posts that we explain our position. There are many reasons why, and they have been clearly explained, again and again, in previous threads. For some reason, some posters on the Brexit threads can't see/read these.

The OP's post was a specific question. I responded.

If you want to know why, then you should look back over the past posts on this subject, which tell you why some of us feel this way. If you can't see the past posts (from much more clear and concise posters than myself) , then please take this up with Mumsnet.

bellinisurge · 16/11/2018 18:06

Sorry you are tired of explaining yourself @ADisrespectfulWoman . Might I suggest you don't bother posting if you can't be arsed to explain yourself. This is a dynamic situation and I, for one, cannot be arsed to look at what some random on MN said last week. If you just want be to BeLeave you are wasting your time.

TheElementsSong · 16/11/2018 18:12

What, specifically, are we talking about when we say "No Deal"?

A true No-Dealer would be skipping about with joy at the thought of planes grounded, food shortages and lack of medicines because that is genuinely what the government's own impact papers are telling us will happen.

If somebody says "No Deal" but is expecting an agreement to be made for flights, or that concerns about lack of food/medicine are unfounded because somehow things will get waved through by kindly customs people, that means kind of by definition we've made Deals.

willyloman · 16/11/2018 18:12

Get rid of the lot! New government please!

1tisILeClerc · 16/11/2018 18:14

Maybe discussing the John Lewis advert is more some peoples 'cup of tea'?

ADisrespectfulWoman · 16/11/2018 18:29

Perhaps you should bow out of the discussion @bellinisurge if you can't be arsed to research what has been posted before? This topic has been going on for a LOT longer than the last week.

Just a random on MN, having her say!

bellinisurge · 16/11/2018 18:31

I do plenty of research . Which is why I voted the way I did. If you want to sling the country over a cliff for your vanity because you can't bear to admit being wrong you should explain yourself. Otherwise you are just a nihilist who doesn't give a shit about the consequences of your decisions.

bellinisurge · 16/11/2018 18:38

Post on here all the time. Read regularly. Yet to see a coherent argument for no deal. Hoped you might have something new and important to say. Turns out you don't.

ADisrespectfulWoman · 16/11/2018 18:43

So many explanations for the reasons to leave have already been posted. As you said bellini, you just can't be arsed to read them.

I'm interested to know why you"re so keen for the UK to stay in such a rotten, corrupt and wasteful organisation as the EU. Do you work for them?

TheElementsSong · 16/11/2018 18:46

Do you work for them?

Yes exactly! Anybody on MN who isn't creaming themselves at the thought of sinking the entire country into an economic crisis, with food and medicine shortages, must be a corrupt traitor in the pay of the enemy! That is the only possible explanation Grin

1tisILeClerc · 16/11/2018 18:48

{'m interested to know why you"re so keen for the UK to stay in such a rotten, corrupt and wasteful organisation as the EU. Do you work for them?}
If you think the EU is bad, you have some disturbing news coming your way.

Aquilla · 16/11/2018 18:49

Thank you, Jason118!

Mookatron · 16/11/2018 19:28

Brexiters on here are always saying they've explained coherent reasons for leaving over and over again.

They haven't. Still haven't found one posted anywhere. Actually, to be fair, I did see one once but it was months ago and I've forgotten what it was.
