Brexit

Brexiteers, if there was a 'People's Vote' how would you vote?

For me? I'd flatly vote No Deal.

Would others vote to stay in the EU or agree to Teresa May's deal?

Everyone I know who voted Leave would still vote Leave (the same goes for those who voted Remain) so I'd be really curious to see what the outcome of a 2nd referendum would generate.

Remain! Or if that wasn’t an option, shit deal!

Kezzie200 · 15/11/2018 23:20

Remain (always was)
I have sympathy with leavers though, I just didnt believe it could be done. A relatively simple financial negotiated divorce settlement takes a couple of years. It was an impossible ask. Additionally, leave meant different things for different areas, so a lot were going to be disappointed.

Both camps were terrible in their execution of the referendum. In any other profession, they were negligent. It was all posturing and power games and still is. None of them really have a clue. And look at what Brexiteers have achieved whilst being Secretarys. Zilch. JRM writes letters.... But wont actually stand himself. Ask yourself why. Its all a car crash and whatever happens the same civil servants will be doing the real work. Ministers are just adornments when it comes to difficult stuff.

Im afraid, whilst being in the EU isnt perfect, its where history has led us. And we were begging to join originally. We are now so intrinsinctly joined, any exit in a short amount of time was impossible.

So now where are we. No reasonable opposition. A shower of a Tory party with a worrying number of individuals already failed on prime positions or making more noise than actions. A complete mess. A media that is more concerned about clickbait than news. A sorry state to be honest.

And the saddest part for me. We are, or were, a pretty prosporous nation. We could do so much for our fellow citizen sufferers and fellow neighbour countries, if only that were to continue and we were prepared to share more.

Good god why would any sensible person vote for No Deal at this stage?

otterturk · 16/11/2018 11:26

No deal

The EU is of course far from perfect but the UK has never really rolled it's sleeves up and got stuck in with proper conviction.
Even as simple as a school classroom example, it is the couple at the back messing around that holds everyone back.
All ruined now of course.

Miljah · 16/11/2018 13:27

Arthur "Remain. However, if we were to remain, we need to change our attitude towards the EU. There have been 40+ years of negativity against the EU by our Governments and media. There has always been a them/us attitude and it has always been about what we can get out of it rather than let's work towards a better Europe and friendships and welfare and peace. If we were to remain, we need to embrace our membership and to embrace being European."

This ^^ Time we grew up.

BorisBogtrotter · 16/11/2018 13:37

No one saying no deal explains why.

It does make me think that the whole thing has been the act of a petulant child: " I don't like this so I'm going to fuck it up for everyone for no good reason."

bellinisurge · 16/11/2018 13:43

Exactly @BorisBogtrotter . Assuming most posters on here are parents, if their kids just pouted "no" when they don't get what they want, posters would tell them not to give in to childish petulance.

Aomame83 · 16/11/2018 13:47

I would vote remain again.

I cannot work out why anyone, especially given all the actual facts, would want to vote bad deal or no deal... I have yet to hear of any benefit to the regular person on the street from any for of Brexit.

Aomame83 · 16/11/2018 13:48

jasjas1973 · 16/11/2018 13:49

Sums it up

Brexiteers, if there was a 'People's Vote' how would you vote?
Mookatron · 16/11/2018 14:01

I reckon we should stop calling it 'No Deal'.

'No Deal' sounds like we have any power in this negotiation. Like if we hold out long enough we'll get exactly what we want out of leaving the EU (whatever the fuck that is). Or like we're James Bond. 'No Deal, General Koskov.' BOOM.

We should asking would we remain, take the current deal, or leave with an absence of trade agreements. Or any other kind of agreements.

PortiaCastis · 16/11/2018 14:08

After reading a lot and doing some research Id vote remain, no deal is jumping off a cliff into the abyss why on earth do you want a no deal OP?

LewisMam · 16/11/2018 14:22

I’m of the opinion that the Brexit vote was largely about immigration. The Leave result was at least partly driven by media footage of thousands of illegal immigrants (most of whom were male and not refugees) in Calais attempting to reach the UK. People felt betrayed by the EU which had not enforced Schengen by making these people apply for asylum in the first country they reached. Numerous countries had failed to stop them on their journey to Calais. There were rumours of the UK being forced to take a quota of these people, and a fear that they would get EU passports and just be able to waltz into the UK. Certainly there was a strong feeling that the EU wasn’t protecting us so we needed to protect ourselves.

A lot of those who voted Leave couldn’t care less about economic consequences. I heard lots of people say they were willing to pay the price of an economic downturn if it stopped the immigrants. A lot of those who voted Leave didn’t have a lot to lose in an economic downturn anyway.

In my opinion the situation hasn’t changed. The immigration crisis still hasn’t been effectively addressed by the EU. Those who voted Leave because of concerns about immigration will continue to do so.

jasjas1973 · 16/11/2018 14:38

How does leaving the EU protect ourselves from any migrant crisis?

These people aren't EU citizens nor will brexit stop them trying to get to the UK.
In fact should the uk border be moved from France to the UK mainland, it will be far worse.

I struggle to see how the EU can stop illegals coming into Europe by peaceful methods, these 1000s crossing the med cannot be returned to Libya, no papers, no idea where they are from and in many cases against UN rules to forcibly repatriate.

Until the UK/USA bombed the fuck out of the middle east we didn't have a migrant crisis but its all ok for us to fcuk off and blame them???

clarrylove · 16/11/2018 14:43

No deal.

BorisBogtrotter · 16/11/2018 14:43

"The Leave result was at least partly driven by media footage of thousands of illegal immigrants (most of whom were male and not refugees) in Calais attempting to reach the UK. "

So refugees can't be men, oh Ok (not)?

Also, the fact that the crisis had escallated so meant that the Dublin convention was unworkable. Should millions of refugees be kept by Italy and Greece, with no support from the rest of the union? Righto

The UK takes far fewer refugees annually than most other EU countries.

"A lot of those who voted Leave didn’t have a lot to lose in an economic downturn anyway. "

They will, they can, and I'll laugh my fucking back off.

"Those who voted Leave because of concerns about immigration will continue to do so."

Those who voted leave because of immigration are ill educated about immigration and prejudiced. Fuck them.

No deal.

LewisMam · 16/11/2018 14:52

How does leaving the EU protect ourselves from any migrant crisis?
That’s exactly what the Remain campaign should have focused on. A lot of people believed that leaving the EU would address immigration concerns due to illegal economic migrants and also the influx of people from Eastern Europe would have to go home. If Remain had directly dealt with the issue and made sure people were correctly informed, a lot of those people might have voted Remain. But instead they harped on about economic consequences, while thousands of people were sitting there going “I don’t give a shit I just want the migrants stopped”.

LewisMam · 16/11/2018 14:56

So refugees can't be men
They can be. But it’s very suspicious when they’re virtually ALL men who have presumably abandoned their women and children. In fact a large proportion of them aren’t refugees at all. Not to mention their anti social behaviour and attacks on European women which were widely reported in the news.

BorisBogtrotter · 16/11/2018 14:59

"they’re virtually ALL men who have presumably abandoned their women and children"

There were lots of children in the camps in France, and Women too. The media just take more photos of young men. However young men do make up a larger number of refugees who have travelled far, because they have physical capacity to withstand the journey.

"Not to mention their anti social behaviour and attacks on European women which were widely reported in the news"

Thwe Cologne attack only had one or two refugees from the migrant crisis years involved.

Germany now has its lowest crime rate in 30 years, 3 years on from it.

The crime and everything else was just politically expedient for the leave leaders to highlight, it pandered to the prejudices of the vote that they wanted to motivate.

LewisMam · 16/11/2018 14:59

So was the debate about immigration or illegal immigration?
Both imo. The economic migrant situation plus the recent influx of people from Eastern Europe. Imo people thought that as soon as they voted Leave the Poles would have to go home. The news reported a number of cases where Polish people were verbally taunted and told they’d have to get out of our country.

raisedbyguineapigs · 16/11/2018 15:07

Yes I can imagine the joy the brexiteers will experience when the UK try and do trade deals with the commonwealth and they ask for free movement in return because, you know even though they are brown, they aren't owned by us anymore and are independent countries!
