After disaster after Salzberg and a very predictable humilation over the Chequers Deal which the ERG reject, moderate Brexiteers reject, Remainers reject and the EU reject....

May does a press conference...

...which is delayed by a power shortage inside No. 10.

And....

Everyone is hoping May will see sense cos she couldn't possibly be that off her rocker.

This is starting to get universal support as an opinion in every political faction in Westminster from ERG types to Momentum types to Remain types.

She has managed to unite parliament

James Patrick and David Allen Green have both repeatedly reminded of her track record where if she gets an idea in her head that's it.

But people still don't want to believe it.

Hell even Rees Moggy is more moderate on Brexit than she now is.

Today was the unofficial announcement of No Deal. We will talk out of talks next month.

Unless, something happens.

And it won't

Tory party conference will be a bloodbath either way.

wonders if DH can book time off at short notice and we can disappear for the duration

shiny seen some theories on twitter about this being a play to show no deal is really imminent so mps will vote for whatever deal is put in front of them in order to not have a giant cliff dive. I'm not so sure there's enough brain power behind the current government for that to be real though.

BestIsWest · 21/09/2018 17:02

Shambles, dear me. She can’t go on much longer can she? But what then? That Gin stockpile won’t last me long at this rate.

DGRossetti · 21/09/2018 17:03

Tory party conference

And that's the key. Not the well being of 60,000,000 plus people. The well being of 313 MPs.

Mention of Johnson upthread, and questions about silent dogs spring top mind.

Sometimes even beer doesn't make me feel betterConfused

{Is this in English and as well "researched" as their "What the Germans are saying"}
A major advantage of being 'over the water' is not paying for a TV license. Those BBC 'clips' are sheer excrement. A 12 year old can manage better on a smartphone in terms of both quality and content.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/09/2018 17:06

Hermione That law can very easily be reversed if May had decided to be spiteful.
Might still be if she / her successors play to the nationalist gallery

Parliament can so easily pass a new law expelling them all with 3 months notice (even if there isn't sufficient transport to do so)
This is why the EU wants any agreement with the EU to have backstops and penalties if the UK changes its mind

E27 expat rights are NOT safe

RedToothBrush · 21/09/2018 17:07

It's thundering here.

And we've had an almighty downpour.

Maybe Noah can save some of us. I live at the top of a hill.

Same here red and only 23C - it's been 30C for 3.5 months, but I think summer finally ended today

Maybe the fishermen of Kent could offer passage across the channel ?

If we fall of the cliff and as a consequence rip up the GAG would we face any penalty from the U.N. for breaking an international treaty?

Reports that June 26th is National Contingency Day according to exam boards. From Furze Platt Senior School web site.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 21/09/2018 17:23

Thanks for the new thread Red.

So pleased I had the foresight to put a bottle of tonic in the fridge this morning.

This article has a timeline of all the times the EU has pointed out Chequers won’t work - starting five months before Chequers was even published. Maybe someone should send the link to May..?

Hazardswan · 21/09/2018 17:30

even moggy is more moderate on brexit now

I am tipsy but fuck.....what a sentence. Have I fallen into a different universe? I've had a brandy or two not dropped acid.

DesertCactus · 21/09/2018 17:30

Delurking to offer more Gin and Wine

1tisILeClerc · 21/09/2018 17:31

In my bid to retain an EU passport I will be on this side helping the French repel all boarders. A bit of 'sucking up' might help.

RedToothBrush · 21/09/2018 17:32

Robert Harris @Robert_Harris
Brexit now taking on a slight railway-timetable-in-August-1914 vibe, with people trusting that “good sense will prevail” because “conflict is in nobody’s interest”. History suggests unwise to bet on it.

And I've just remembered there is an OPEN bottle of processco in the fridge.

Its flat, but its alcoholic and guilt free. I can't let it go to waste. Plus DH is on the piss with work tonight.

Bother! I forgot to stockpile gin. Must dash out.

Not quite - every day up until June 26th will be National Contingency Days Confused

RedToothBrush · 21/09/2018 17:37

James Patrick @J_amesp
Contingency plans are currently being triggered everywhere. Personal and business. It’s done folks. The Rubicon has been crossed.

DH's business split into three last month.

We have a personal opt out.
Tonight we are closer than ever to taking it.

Need to chat to DH over the weekend and book flights to scout out.

From where I'm sitting, it certainly looks VERY true.

That's a very bad taste reference to the expulsion of the Jews from England (Edward II ??????). They were given a few weeks to get out, and some booked passage with boats from Kent, who basically drowned them all in the channel.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edict_of_Expulsion

Horrible reading when put alongside the mood of the nation, and the noises emanating from our leaders. Another reason why I get irrationally angry with people who think "we're British" is somehow a magic spell that wards off the basest instincts on man. It isn't, and never was. Just because the machinery of state has done a brilliant job of (literally) whitewashing history, doesn't make being "British" anything more special than any other nation on earth (looks at the US).

RedToothBrush · 21/09/2018 17:38

Krishnan Guru-Murthy @krishgm
It's a bit weird that the friday before Labour conference as Brexit is at "impasse" according to Theresa May we can't find a senior Labour voice to come on #C4News live tonight

UK Prime Minister @10DowningStreet
“Throughout this process, I have treated the EU with nothing but respect. The UK expects the same. A good relationship at the end of this process depends on it.” – PM @Theresa_May

David Allen Green @davidallengreen
The Article 50 notification itself contained a threat to withhold cooperation on security.

This is untrue.
