After disaster after Salzberg and a very predictable humilation over the Chequers Deal which the ERG reject, moderate Brexiteers reject, Remainers reject and the EU reject....

May does a press conference...

...which is delayed by a power shortage inside No. 10.

And....

“If I’m selling to [EU country], I need to create a nominated personal business in that country to be responsible for my VAT liabilities in that country."

What does that even mean ?

I can't see the accountants at MegaCorp plc. being particularly impressed Hmm

MyCatIsBonkers · 24/09/2018 16:40

On the BBC website it says that Teresa May is still standing by her Chequers plan with the backing of cabinet. WTF? How bloody blunt does she want the other EU leaders to be? IT'S FUCKING DEAD! Let the poor bloody plan rest in peace. She really is thick as mince.

On the BBC website it says that Teresa May is still standing by her Chequers plan with the backing of cabinet. WTF How is she standing by it? That plan is so dead. This is reminding me of the dead parrot sketch.

ShinyElena · 24/09/2018 17:16

What is wrong with these people?!

Hazardswan · 24/09/2018 17:32

So TM the corpse bride is standing by the coffin that contains Chequers? Perfect. I mean why would she just get on and do her job instead of being stubborn for the sake of being stubborn. (I cant make a paragraph break for some reason....my enter key not working....) I'm not 100% up to date with yesterday's news...are labour still commited to being bellends? I gather there was some maybe thoughts to 2nd ref or acting like a decent opposition?

lonelyplanetmum · 24/09/2018 17:32

So very tragic about the lovely poor girl who was allergic to the sesame seeds in a Pret baguette. Such compassion and thoughts for her poor Father.

The only reason I mention it here is the reporting on the BBC website. For once an accurate explanation of why some regulation is a good thing, how shared food regulation works and one of many examples of how the U.K. has autonomy ( sovereignty ) to diverge.

Why the BBC are now being accurate, too little and too late I really don't know.

"What are the laws on allergens in food products?
■ Sesame is one of 14 allergens that consumers must be made aware of when it is used as an ingredient in food products, according to EU Regulations
■ However, the EU rules say individual member states are responsible for deciding on how information about non pre-packaged food is provided to the customer
■ The UK's Food Regulations 2014 allow freshly handmade, non pre-packaged food to not be individually labelled
■ Pret confirmed at the time of Natasha's death products would not have been individually labelled with allergen or ingredient information, and that this was within regulations
■ However, Pret said there were signs in the fridge and at till points telling consumers with allergies to speak to a manager for advice or to see its allergen guide"

Pret baguette inquest: Plea for help after allergic reaction www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-45623831

DGRossetti · 24/09/2018 17:37

However, Pret said there were signs in the fridge and at till points telling consumers with allergies to speak to a manager for advice or to see its allergen guide"

I bet there were afterwards Sad

Is expecting someone being able to read a sign (how many languages was it in ?) good enough when potentially fatal conditions are involved ?

colouringinpro · 24/09/2018 17:39

I simply cannot comprehend how TM can think in any way that the Chequers Deal has legs?????? EU 4 principles???? This is simply torture now

SusanWalker · 24/09/2018 18:23

From a very personal point of view I don't want hormone reared beef as I read an article saying that American doctors noted a spike in increased obesity when hormone use started. I'm fat enough already. I cannot believe TM is standing by chequers. She is the kind of person who would sit in a five hour traffic jam because she had planned her route and wasn't going to.divert. My enter button not working either. Odd.

We’re working closely with airlines and operators to ensure flights are not affected in a no deal scenario #Brexit

Find out more: (link: bit.ly/2MY73FS) bit.ly/2MY73FS. This will be the same dept for transport in charge of the trains......

prettybird · 24/09/2018 18:38

The "enter" button not working would explain the problem I was having with my post on the laptop.

It seems ok on the app.

DarlingNikita · 24/09/2018 18:38

I still can't use paragraphs. It'd be a bit odd if everyone's enter button had simultaneously stopped working...

1tisILeClerc · 24/09/2018 18:39

Surely just talking with airline operators is no good as the whole 'package involves certification of planes, ground staff, pilots airports and all the bits of insurance covering it all? And MN have 'stolen some peoples 'enter' key.

RedToothBrush · 24/09/2018 18:43

David Allen Green @ davidallengreenSo Boris Johnson and David Davis say that post-Brexit UK can have individual trade deals with EU members...

...but campaigned for UK to leave the EU because EU members could not have individual trade deals with non-EU countries.

The idiocy is painful.

Faisal Islam @ faisalislam Food & drink foundation have seen new Brexit No Deal notices... call them “grisly” suggest A50 extension: “Today’s Technical Notices lay bare the grisly prospect of a ‘no-deal’ Brexit. We face chaos at the ports, serious disruption to food supplies, rising consumer prices...”

I have been out - has anyone flounced out of May's Cabinet?

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2018 19:04

May warned 2 days before the referendum that the NI border would be a problem

So she's had long enough to think about it Hmm

https://www.rte.ie/news/brexit/2018/0924/995703-tommie-gorman-brexit/

"Just think about it, if we are out of the European Union with tariffs on exporting goods into the EU, there would have to be something to recognise that, between the Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

And if you pulled out of the EU and came out of free movement,
then how could have a situation where there was an open border with a country that was in the EU and had access to free movement?"

1tisILeClerc · 24/09/2018 19:24

In an adjoining article from that link about the problems with a golf course. Cue for an ancient gag. 'There is a big hole in the ground and the police are looking into it'.

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2018 19:26

With all the drama, I've just noticed that the UK govt Brexit prep notices have been updated today
More added, but still no notice on aviation yet Hmm

https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/how-to-prepare-if-the-uk-leaves-the-eu-with-no-deal

woman11017 · 24/09/2018 19:30

@niktraykov
That's not going to fly.
@J_amesp
Fuck me. The aviation no deal notice just published relies on hope. HOPE.
Yep return doesn't work here either.

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2018 19:31

Oops just found the aviation notice, which has documents on Safety and security too

Does actually state the certification problems for planes, pilots etc ! - anything in the media yet ? Hmm
