I'm guessing surfer won't start another thread as the questions were getting a bit difficult on the last one. 😂

Thought this was worthy of discussion though

So it turns out those pesky EU immigrants actually contribute more than the average UK citizen.

Who knew 🤔

The fact it is the Government's own report is embarrassing, or at least would be if they were......Oh never mind!

DesertCactus · 18/09/2018 20:02

What a fucking disaster 😞

CardinalSin · 18/09/2018 20:20

Well, I think I've found Surfer's approach in meme form...

Not the Brexit Arms again
Hazardswan · 18/09/2018 20:24

I knew too!

Also I knew it while being LIGHT HEARTED and NORMAL.

1tisILeClerc · 18/09/2018 20:55

Not sure I want to be TOO normal personally. Anyway, what happened to being 'frothy'?

Hazardswan · 18/09/2018 21:16

I believe it is the beLeavers who are frothy and cross but it is the remainers civic duty to be LIGHT HEARTED and NORMAL when discussing brexcrement in the pub. Not 100% on the rules though as I was following the unicorns.

for some reason my inner typing voice wrote the above in a very la de lar posh voice...one is struggling to be normal it appears

Peregrina · 18/09/2018 21:18

There was that curious post just before the old thread finished about how wonderful Trump was, and how he supported Boris Johnson, who would make a wonderful PM and how Trump right now would sign a deal if he was PM. (I must say, that might be the only advantage of keeping May on.) I was out during the day, and no one replied and then the thread filled up. Mind you it was such a load of tosh that it probably didn't merit a reply.

www.theneweuropean.co.uk/top-stories/poll-sensation-britain-will-be-an-anti-brexit-country-by-january-2019-1-5699935

This was linked on the other thread. Basically, even if nobody changes their mind, by the time that Brexit happens, the majority of the population WON’T WANT IT and the majority wishing to remain will continue to grow by virtue of simple demographics. There was a point made that ‘the will of the people’ includes a not insignificant number of people who are now dead.
I asked John McDonnell how he would persuade young people to vote Labour given that a recent opinion poll showed 82% of 18-24 year olds would vote to remain in the EU if there was another vote.
He didn’t answer.

Peregrina · 18/09/2018 21:30

He didn’t answer.
Did he not take your question, or did he answer with a pile of waffle?

1tisILeClerc · 18/09/2018 21:36

Do unicorns 'emit' droppings, and if so do they sparkle?
The 'sniffer of werritys' has been in negotiations with the orange one. Wave goodbye to the NHS.

PCPlumsTruncheon · 18/09/2018 21:41

Peregrina No, my question was ignored. At least with a pile of waffle I could have challenged him.
I have an 18 year old son who obviously couldn’t vote in the Referendum but is more politically astute than 90% of adults I know.
I also made the point to John that it is young people, who overwhelmingly don’t want this (and who played a significant part in Labour’s surprise performance at the GE), who will suffer the most from Brexit.

Bearbehind · 18/09/2018 22:18

Unfortunately that meme is about right cardinal

I'd like to think that, deep down, even the most die hard leaver must be questioning all this.

Maybe they'd work out that without EU immigrants bolstering contributions there would be less to go round to supplement the natives.

But I sadly suspect they are actually so deluded they'll never, ever get it.

Peregrina that weird Trump / Johnson thing seems to come from Reddit (I googled the phrases), so I think it can probably be ignored.

bellinisurge · 19/09/2018 07:06

I suppose we need to huddle around a hot toddy to get through this.
Cheers.

frumpety · 19/09/2018 08:22

I loved the fact that Surfer managed to end the last thread with a John Mcdonnell quote from the webchat. She of course failed to mention the six Labour Brexit tests

Starmer’s six tests for the Brexit deal are:

  1. Does it ensure a strong and collaborative future relationship with the EU?
  2. Does it deliver the “exact same benefits” as we currently have as members of the Single Market and Customs Union?
  3. Does it ensure the fair management of migration in the interests of the economy and communities?
  4. Does it defend rights and protections and prevent a race to the bottom?
  5. Does it protect national security and our capacity to tackle cross-border crime?
  6. Does it deliver for all regions and nations of the UK?
time4chocolate · 19/09/2018 08:44

I think Labour have proved themselves over the last two years to be pretty irrelevant where Brexit is concerned, so their six tests don’t count for much. Just more cake and eat it.

surferjet · 19/09/2018 08:49

frumpety
Those 6 points are fine by me.
I just loved how JM kept telling you the referendum result has to be respected.
And he’s right.
No amount of foot stamping ( & there was plenty of that ) was going to change his views on brexit.
And he’s absolutely right about the resurgence of UKIP if we mess with the ref result. He’s not stupid.

bellinisurge · 19/09/2018 09:09

JM, like all extremists loves the chaos. From the chaos he hopes his party will emerge either triumphant or, at least, the last ones standing. It is a playbook as old as the hills and I can't believe it's getting traction here.

Hazardswan · 19/09/2018 09:22

Nah dude a bellend Surfer. Dodged the questions relating to disability, ill health, carers in regards to brexit ...so has my local labour MP and I've contacted the party. I've asked in multiple different ways for reassurance from Labour that they at least have disabled people's backs and all I get is radio silence...literally not even a generic mass emailed response. If it's all going to be fine why don't they just tell me? Or maybe I'm someone they don't like - foreign sounding last name, benefit claimer asking about disabled people is perhaps minority OTT??? I dunno I'm speculating. Would you like to contact labour in some way to see if you get a response? Maybe they'll answer a beleaver.

frumpety · 19/09/2018 09:28

I can respect a result and still not agree with it Surfer. I can also be concerned about what is actually going to happen and the corresponding fall out for the citizens of the UK, especially when all signs are suggesting it is not going to be a good thing, except for all but a tiny minority.

frumpety · 19/09/2018 09:32

Hazardswan that really is a bit shit , not even to get a generic answer. Flowers

surferjet · 19/09/2018 09:34

Hazardswan
I’m completely with you on disability issues and think cutting their benefits is disgusting - they should be getting more. The most vulnerable in our society should be looked after the most. That’s my view.
I’m also worried about the whole self ID thing, I don’t understand a lot of it & steer clear of any trans thread on here, but it is worrying.

Bearbehind · 19/09/2018 09:35

I think Labour have proved themselves over the last two years to be pretty irrelevant where Brexit is concerned, so their six tests don’t count for much. Just more cake and eat it.

So are you saying you are happy if Brexit doesn't deliver any of those things time?

Why?

What on earth is the glittering prize that makes it worth losing all that?

OP posts:
surferjet · 19/09/2018 09:37

My hope was, & still is, that brexit will free up more money to help the most vulnerable in this country.
