Laugh all you like.

Tell me which of the far right parties in recent European elections suggested leaving the EU?

France? Nope
Italy? Nope
Austria? Nope
Sweeden? Nope
Netherlands? Nope

surferjet · 10/09/2018 09:47

Eh.........Sweden?

@surferjet - are you seriously bigging up fascists? Tell me it ain't so.

topcat1980 · 10/09/2018 09:58

The Sweedish far right party haven't suggested leaving the EU.

Do get the facts right.

Whoops talking to a brexiteer, silly me.

surferjet · 10/09/2018 10:00

No, I’m telling you that every country within your beloved EU have far right parties who are gaining votes all the time.
Look at France, look at Italy.
The Swedish far right party are pushing for a referendum.
You seem to think it’s just the UK.
You don’t seem to know anything.

bellinisurge · 10/09/2018 10:01

@surferjet - I don't know anything, do I? I'm a prepper because it would appear that other people don't know anything.
You choose to be a fascist. You don't wander into it. Not now. Not after all that has happened.

jasjas1973 · 10/09/2018 10:01

I thought they the SD wanted a vote on leaving?

However Swedish support for EU membership actually appears to be growing following the Brexit vote, with a major poll earlier this year showing that 53 percent of Swedes are generally in favour of membership (up from 49 percent in 2016) while the proportion of people generally against it dropped to 18 percent (down from 23 percent) in the same time period..

bellinisurge · 10/09/2018 10:02

As far as France is concerned, didn't that creature get beaten at the polls?

jasjas1973 · 10/09/2018 10:05

Its the UK that is the only far right country in Europe.

topcat1980 · 10/09/2018 10:06

The Sweedish far right party only won 16% of the vote though.

Not happening

Most of Europe is quite happy with the EU

surferjet · 10/09/2018 10:06

topcat1980

I’m not sure what you're doing on a thread about EU politics.

The anti-immigration Sweden Democrats (SD) have called for Sweden to hold a referendum on the country's EU membership after the 2018 Swedish general election
SD party leader Jimmie Åkesson told newspaper Dagens Industri that the EU is a "large web of corruption where no one has control over anything

The Swedish nationalists want Sweden to follow the UK's example and leave the EU, and promise they will push for a referendum on the matter in the next mandate period

topcat1980 · 10/09/2018 10:08

Surfer, ok I got that wrong, but they only won 16% of the vote.

And it wasn't on the manifestos of any of the other "far right" groups that you are lauding, so I got the majority right.

topcat1980 · 10/09/2018 10:17

There will be no referendum, in fact, the election is Sweeden has been vastly overplayed as a victory for the far right, they won 2% more of the vote than they did last time.

In Italy they are in coalition, in Austria too.

No outright wins, and lots of losses across Europe.

Thecrabbypatty · 10/09/2018 10:21

I was at last night of the proms on Saturday and was overwhelmed by the amount of uk flags!!! I really don't know where this talk of a "sea of eu flags" is coming from. Certainly not Hyde Park. I have been before and this year was crazy!! Union Jack chairs, t shirts, flags, hats, sunglasses, picnic blankets, you name it. And the belting out of Rule Britainnia and Jerusalem etc was phenomenal! It was so patriotic this year! I'm honestly baffled by the coverage. And as for the poor woman at the gate handing out free eu flags, she got a lot of shirty comments from gangs of middle englanders with wicker hampers hell bent on having a good time.

1tisILeClerc · 10/09/2018 10:50

The Union flag is only a Union Jack if it is flying on a boat.
You would have to check the individual manifestos of the far right parties of other countries to see what their stance is on leaving the EU. Although they may be unpleasant in many respects I am not sure that leaving the EU is on their agendas.

Thecrabbypatty · 10/09/2018 11:03

1tisILeClerc I stand corrected. On a side note I've heard that asda have a special offer on spam at the moment so perhaps you should rush over there and nab some before those other keen as mustard hoarders preppers get there first. Then you can get back to counting the tins in your garage and researching European party manifestos Hmm

Hasenstein · 10/09/2018 11:41

"Then you can get back to counting the tins in your garage and researching European party manifestos "

Perish the thought that she should think ahead and try to familiarise herself with the political situation in Europe. Typical remainer.

bellinisurge · 10/09/2018 11:56

@Thecrabbypatty - prepping is nothing to do with spam. I prep. I hate spam.
If you want to whine about people stocking up food at home go ahead. As long as you are stocking up food yourself and aren't whining when the shelves are empty that Theresa May has caused this with her lack of unicorns for all.

1tisILeClerc · 10/09/2018 12:17

I am a remainer and am remaining in the EU, where Brexit is largely a weird sideshow.
Must admit I quite liked spam fritters when I was young.

bellinisurge · 10/09/2018 12:32

Stocking up on wine 🍷 without an "h" is always a good idea.

Thecrabbypatty · 10/09/2018 12:47

Just to clarify, I do not know about asda's current offers on tinned goods, neither do i think all preppers like spam. It was a joke. I like to know what's going on in the world but ultimately I don't vote in Sweden so the manifestos really don't apply to me so it's not necessary for me to swot up on them. Prep all you like, knock yourself out. I'll continue to sit here and look on with interest. My local butcher and greengrocer are both ready to roll out the bunting when brexit happens. They rear meat and grow locally, they employ students during the summer for the harvest and the rest of the time employ a small group of locals. The butcher also does apprenticeships which helps employment in the area. The next village has a fishmonger who is also celebrating. I shop in these places because its cheaper, provides local employment and I believe in shopping local. Why would these food producers grind to a halt after brexit?

Thecrabbypatty · 10/09/2018 12:51

I'm also not going to be weeping if it costs more to import cheap CE stamped plastic garbage from China, whose government do not give a crap about insane pollution levels and the use of non sustainable materials. If it costs more it might put people off buying insane amounts of environmentally damaging tat.

1tisILeClerc · 10/09/2018 12:53

While I agree it is great for local butchers greengrocers etc support local agriculture and employment, does the greengrocer for example ONLY sell produce from the UK?

Thecrabbypatty · 10/09/2018 13:02

Yes, they keep costs down by not importing. If it's not in season you can buy their frozen stuff (berries etc) or buy what is in season. It makes you eat a wider variety of foods and stay in tune with nature. The food tastes better because it's fresh and hasn't been chilled and shipped round the world. It's better for everyone. Food miles, carbon emissions, the local economy and not eating mass produced preserved crap. The only preserved stuff is their jams, chutneys etc. Keeps the countryside agricultural, keeps the farms in business and keeps the costs down for the customer.

bellinisurge · 10/09/2018 13:08

I preserve loads of my own stuff and locally produced stuff. If you think that we have the infrastructure to operate economies of scale and keep things cheaper you are deluded. Locally produced stuff is not cheaper. You pay for quality.
And if you are struggling to pay for food now withcheap non-tarriffed imports available, it's going to get a whole lot worse.
Don't patronise people with fancy dreams of cheap locally produced and packaged abundance. It's not there.
