Only 1 rule.
No c&p posts a mile long, they’re just boring & no one reads them.
Keep it short, sweet, & to the point.

Peace & Love ❤️🇬🇧❤️

That's a feeling answer, then. Nothing needs to change as long as the situation still "feels" different.

No I don’t think so - if I don’t get a vote that allows me to fire those who make rules by which I am expected to abide, that isn’t democracy

That’s not a feeling - that’s the basis of political freedom

Jason118 · 09/09/2018 19:55

It's an interesting insight to some peoples psyches - because we are already in the EU and have been part of making the laws, people can't seem to 'own' them in the same way. The fact that if the same rules are made and adopted by UK alone then it's alright is kinda oddSmile

In fairness it’s a case of differing world views I think - my personal view is that we should remain a sovereign nation. I fear what the eu might become in another 20 years. It is already very different from where it started out

1tisILeClerc · 09/09/2018 20:30

You can be sure the whole world will be a different place in 20 years time. With the rate of Russians and Chinese buying up chunks of the UK there may be all sorts of changes that are unwelcome.
Part of the 'plan' of the ERG is to reduce regulation which combined with further austerity will make the purchase of England's green and pleasant land by foreigners even easier.

Sorry @surfer, the juke box went quiet and I forgot which thread I was on. I forewent the beer and am consequently too sober.

"If we are to believe various threads on mumsnet (ad nauseum) then hardened remainers are already getting Irish etc passports so presumably won’t be here to point the fickle finger of blame.

Peanuts!?"

That wasn't what I (or you) said. The urge to ascribe blame if it all goes belly up seems to be coming from the leave side. Currently it's remainers (not getting behind Brexit), the EU (bullying us poor Brits), May (being a closet remainer and not standing up to the EU). According to you, the Brexit future belongs to you, so you'll naturally be quite happy to assume responsibility for whatever happens in that future.

I have no idea what "Peanuts!?" is supposed to mean.

surferjet · 09/09/2018 20:55

1tisILeClerc

Lol no worries. Tbh I’m not on mumsnet that much really, not as much as I used to be anyway.
The whole brexit conversation has been done to death so the brexit arms is now just a place for general political chat, or to chat about anything really.
Re: brexit., My personal opinion is the average UK citizen won’t even notice we’ve left.

Surfer, you could be right, especially if it ends up a BINO Bfexit

Jason118 · 09/09/2018 21:08

*Brexit

surferjet · 09/09/2018 21:11

Yep. One big massive anti climax. & we’ll all wonder why we wasted so much time talking about it.

That would be lovely. Smile Wine

Mightybanhammer · 09/09/2018 22:42

@surferjet
one big anti climax
Whatever happens, in the best case the sky won't fall in post Brexit. Not necessarily. People will get up and go to work as usual. shelves may look a bit empty for a while yet we all wonder what the fuss was about. People like you will say ' i told you so.'

The damage will be stealthy, incremental, corrosive and crippling. Bur for the majority who are not interested in economics or politics the job losses, cuts to welfare and nhs, further hikes to min state pension age , increased interest rates and plummeting £ will be explained away simply as the fault of the previous leader. . Or the EU. Or perhaps both.

In the worst case, the sky really will fall in. But then of course, it is far too late.

surferjet · 10/09/2018 08:08

On the contrary - remainers will blame anything that goes wrong on us leaving the EU. Because of course, none of those things you mention have happened before, or would have happened again, even if we’d stayed Hmm
The world is changing, you have to change with it I’m afraid.

look what’s just happened in Sweden.

1tisILeClerc · 10/09/2018 08:29

Hi Surfer
I know it is a bit 'picky' but if you think the average person won't notice leaving the EU, what is the point of it?
I think you are wrong that nothing will change, simply because the EU and UK are so deeply intertwined. Most people 'on the street' have no idea what aspects of their lives are in common (through being in the EU) with most of the other EU countries.

bellinisurge · 10/09/2018 08:50

@surferjet - but leave supporters have blamed everything that is wrong with our country on the EU.
Cheers.

topcat1980 · 10/09/2018 09:03

"Look what's happened in Sweeden"

Where the far right yet again made fewer gains than predicted you mean?

Where the center left still won the largest part of the vote of any party?

Peregrina · 10/09/2018 09:07

Look what's happened in Sweden - where a fascist party making some gains is something to be applauded?

jasjas1973 · 10/09/2018 09:20

Are the so called fascist Sweden democrats really that far right compared to TM and her conservatives?
I mean they get called fascists because they want to curb immigration, deport, cut social services, leave the EU...seems we are ahead of the curve there!

lljkk · 10/09/2018 09:28

ha! Brexiters are keen to blame Brexit negotiation problems on "Remoaners" (the people not even in power), TMay (in power but seemingly not fervent enough believer) and the EU ("who only want to punish us".... even though "German carmakers will never let trade barriers be erected" Gove, May 2016. The only explanation Leavers won't accept is Brexit was a terrible idea in the first place.

If only TMay had the vision to believe in Rainbow kitten butterfly unicorns....

BShexit. I like that one.

Although the party did not fulfill exit polls predictions that it would become Sweden's second-biggest party, its success has confirmed fears that Europe's rising far-right tide has now reached Sweden, one of the world's most liberal countries

Remainers.
Why are far right parties gaining so much support within the EU?
Sweden is one of the most liberal countries in the world & even they’ve had enough.

What’s the answer oh wise ones?

OP posts:
topcat1980 · 10/09/2018 09:35

The fascists in Sweeden only gained about 2 %.

Its interesting to see Brexiteers cheering the rise of fascism.

topcat1980 · 10/09/2018 09:36

"Why are far right parties gaining so much support within the EU? "

They didn't in Sweeden they gained 2% more than 2014.

BTW none of the "far right" parties have ever suggested leaving the EU.

Here, have some confirmation for your bias.

surferjet · 10/09/2018 09:43

1tisILeClerc · 10/09/2018 09:44

As a random thought. Would the Swedish fascist party want unrestricted immigration of 'fellow' fascists from the rest of Europe (or elsewhere) into Sweden?
Could widen the question and turn it around to any other country. Would the Fascist movement in the UK like to see unrestricted immigration of 'other' Fascists?
