MNHQ here: results of our Brexit survey - 71% want another referendum

RowanMumsnet · 04/09/2018 10:35

Hello

We ran a survey on Mumsnet in August-September; more than 2000 of you took part. We were asking about your thoughts about Brexit and whether there should be a second referendum.

We're releasing the results today, and they show that 71% said they wanted another referendum (although 26% don't).

60% of survey respondents said they felt misled by claims made by campaigners in the 2016 referendum, including 41% who said they felt misled by claims made by the Leave campaign and 18% who said they felt misled by claims made by both Remain and Leave.

Summing up, one respondent said 'I envisaged jobs, travel and opportunity, not having a potato delivered by the army.'

You can read all about it here.

Thanks
MNHQ

Topcat

We won by several million votes.

That’s not ‘slight’

Cry foul all you like - the bleating won’t change the direction of travel

  • I show my ignorance of economics, oh that has given me the first laugh of the day, cause you followed it with this.

"stockmarket value at any moment in time is directly linked to ‘chatter’ relating to confidence"

Since when do banks and others listen to the ordinary guy in the street for their intel on confidence? The "Chatter" tends to be people talking about what governments, other financial institutions and corporations are going to do, rather than what is said on MN.

The markets, and money markets go down everytime there is a hint of a no deal exit and rise every time there is a hint that we will stay in the customs union, what does that tell you about their faith in brexit?

Tell me more about markets please..

topcat1980 You might leave a bad job, one that has changed beyond recognition from when you started it, given more work and no pay rise, you eventually leave for a new job, You will not know what that new jobs like till you start it.

"We won by several million votes.

That’s not ‘slight’"

It is, because its nominal, the other side had millions of votes too, so we use percentages to describe the difference because its more accurate.

"You might leave a bad job, one that has changed beyond recognition from when you started it, given more work and no pay rise, you eventually leave for a new job, You will not know what that new jobs like till you start it."

Poor analogy.

Topcat - ‘knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing since 1980...’

CardinalSin · 07/09/2018 11:34

I see 10Shills is back on the standard Quitling argument - "We won, you lost, democracy ended in June 2016". It really is bizarrely pathetic.

CardinalSin · 07/09/2018 11:35

"We won by several million votes"

It's also not factual. But then we expect that from Quitlings. Don't forget, they don't like experts!

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 11:36

10degrees.

Poor analogies and ad hominems really don't make your argument any better.

10degreestostarboard · 07/09/2018 11:36

Cardinal - not pathetic, factual.

What is pathetic is your relentless clinging to the belief that only you know what is good for the nation, when the majority disagree with you

TheElementsSong · 07/09/2018 11:37

We won by several million votes

Gosh, really?

1tisILeClerc · 07/09/2018 11:38

I referred to Greece earlier. Their government essentially lied to get into the EU and were then caught out when the full facts of their finances were revealed. You obviously don't remember about the olive groves that were claimed for, that don't exist.

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 11:40

" Their government essentially lied to get into the EU and were then caught out when the full facts of their finances were revealed"

They also borrowed well beyond their means and failed to collect enough in taxes.

If they had collected the missing 50% of their economic taxes during the years 2001-2008 they wouldn't have been in this mess.

CardinalSin · 07/09/2018 11:40

"not pathetic, factual"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 11:40

Great erudite point, well done.

Well rebutted.

mummmy2017 · 07/09/2018 11:41

Quitlings.. Where we are the winning side...
Your like the ex who sits and watches from the old family home, while the one who left is out doing things, new life full of hope..

Yes stop. Put on some shoe's get out there and embrace your future.

Talkstotrees · 07/09/2018 11:43

We won by several million votes.

That’s not ‘slight’

Blimey, those leave votes are breeding like rabbits Shock On the last page you said 2 million, now ‘several’ million. Interesting that you’re using known shill tactics of building on lies if they go unchallenged.

The actual figure was nearer to 1.25m. Yes, still a win but not a landslide as you suggest. We ‘folk’ would have more respect for you if you stuck to the truth. But your posts aren’t aimed at us, are they?

Rosstac · 07/09/2018 11:43

CardinalSin Haven’t we had the democratic vote, how does democracy work if every decision is argued about even after a vote, the country would be unable to function

TheElementsSong · 07/09/2018 11:43

several million votes

Is Brexitannia also re-writing new laws of mathematics that haven't been "inflicted on us" by cruel reality? Grin

CardinalSin · 07/09/2018 11:44

Oh Mummy, I'd love to embrace a future full of promise, economic prosperity, opportunities etc., but you Quitlings have decided that you want misery, xenophobia, failing economy, and fewer opportunities for all.

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 11:45

"Haven’t we had the democratic vote, how does democracy work if every decision is argued about even after a vote, the country would be unable to function"

Isn't this exactly what goes on in every democracy? It doesn't stop for 5 years after every election.

As much as you'd like it to, cause you can't justify your points.

CardinalSin · 07/09/2018 11:45

Rosstac - have you not noticed how democracy has been functioning for the previous several decades? Even you much-harked-back-to 1950s?

Rosstac · 07/09/2018 11:45

TheElementsSong Yes millions if you include the ones that didn’t vote, because as we all know that wanted to leave and knew it was a forgone conclusion

Rosstac · 07/09/2018 11:47

topcat1980 Can we have the min of 5 years then, we haven’t even carried out this democratic decision yet

TheElementsSong · 07/09/2018 11:47

Yes millions if you include the ones that didn’t vote, because as we all know that wanted to leave and knew it was a forgone conclusion

Dear. God.
