MNHQ here: results of our Brexit survey - 71% want another referendum

RowanMumsnet · 04/09/2018 10:35

Hello

We ran a survey on Mumsnet in August-September; more than 2000 of you took part. We were asking about your thoughts about Brexit and whether there should be a second referendum.

We're releasing the results today, and they show that 71% said they wanted another referendum (although 26% don't).

60% of survey respondents said they felt misled by claims made by campaigners in the 2016 referendum, including 41% who said they felt misled by claims made by the Leave campaign and 18% who said they felt misled by claims made by both Remain and Leave.

Summing up, one respondent said 'I envisaged jobs, travel and opportunity, not having a potato delivered by the army.'

You can read all about it here.

Thanks
MNHQ

Cobblersandhogwash I would be very surprised if any GE or referendum didn’t have some form of cheating and lying involved ( not say that’s acceptable)

10degreestostarboard · 07/09/2018 12:22

Oh topcat - were the shoe on the other foot I doubt very much that you would be referring to the referendum result as advisory.

More Intellectual dishonesty from you

Rosstac · 07/09/2018 12:23

topcat1980 The Pm of the time said the vote would be implemented, the ballot paper said remain or leave, nothing else,

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 12:24

The PM of the time also said he would stay on.

And he backed remain.

Funny how you only take him at his word when it suits you.

10degreestostarboard · 07/09/2018 12:27

The pm of the time did something you apparently refuse to - realised his arguments weren’t good enough and stood down.

Sadly you don’t follow the same example

Rosstac · 07/09/2018 12:28

topcat1980 He had to stand down as he backed remain, He, the government would implement it,

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 12:41

No he said he would stay and implement it.

But then again he didn't vene have the power to say that it would happen.

Parliament need to do that.

Rosstac · 07/09/2018 12:56

topcat1980 And they have, they could have stopped it numerous times and even voted 5-1 to have the referendum,

woman11017 · 07/09/2018 12:56

Brexit does not exist and so can't be implemented.

A government which takes total control over the judiciary and parliament can.

It's being implemented.

The rights which we have enjoyed, just expected or not even noticed disappeared in the Repeal Act.

Nikephorus · 07/09/2018 12:56

Nikephorus, are you suggesting that Mumsnet falsified the results? That’s quite some accusation.
I'm saying it's incredibly easy to claim something when you run the website and I'm saying I wouldn't be remotely surprised given their obvious bias. If they have a problem with this then they should have made the poll open / obvious to more people and shouldn't be so obviously biased against Theresa May & the Conservatives.

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 12:59

"and they have, they could have stopped it numerous times and even voted 5-1 to have the referendum."

The referendum was voted through because of the convention that you don't block things on a manifesto.

Secondly MPs were told it was advisory and so therefore didn't need any limitations put on it.

. MPs currently aren't being given any say over Brexit, and the government are relying on the DUP to force through an agenda not on the ballot.

10degreestostarboard · 07/09/2018 12:59

I think mumsnet has done a good job of staying neutral over Brexit but the apparent jubilation in sharing the results of their ‘survey’ seems sadly out of step with the previous approach.

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 13:00

"they should have made the poll open / obvious to more people and shouldn't be so obviously biased against Theresa May & the Conservatives."

Hmm Theresa May is the worst PM in modern history with a cabinet and party full of spivs, liars, cheats and con artists, yet the largest political threads are all about Corbyn?

Yeah, some bias.

1tisILeClerc · 07/09/2018 13:02

The whole Brexit topic area is buried in the bowels of 'Talk'. Hardly obvious to a casual surfer.

10degreestostarboard · 07/09/2018 13:02

Topcat - I will say it again - had you won you would not be calling the result advisory.

And even if it is on some technicality you can doubtless quote - the political reality of millions of leave votes means that any government needs to tread carefully or risk political oblivion

10degreestostarboard · 07/09/2018 13:03

Topcat

Are you actually defending the Labour Party - more than ever now the home of the mad, bad and sad?

Rosstac · 07/09/2018 13:04

topcat1980 And ? Are you saying it’s their fault or what, I not sure, Parliament has given the people the vote, voted to act on the vote, voted to issue A50 so on and so on, I don’t think anybody was holding a gun to there heads

Rosstac · 07/09/2018 13:06

topcat1980 You haven’t lived through many Prime ministers then,

CardinalSin · 07/09/2018 13:08

"I will say it again - had you won you would not be calling the result advisory"

Yes, because that would have been stupid!

Really, I know you're just shilling away, but please try and put an iota of logic in the occasional post!

10degreestostarboard · 07/09/2018 13:12

Cardinal

Do you have a point to make?

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 13:13

"Had you won you would not be calling the result advisory. "

HAd we won there was nothing to change, but had we won, others like Farage and those in the Tory party would have kept campaigning.

Also a close result may have changed approaches to Europe, after all eurosceptics have had significant influence over our policies towards the EU.

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 13:15

"Are you actually defending the Labour Party - more than ever now the home of the mad, bad and sad?"

Most of the accusations against Corbyn and anti semitism don't actually stand up to scrutiny, but then they don't have to, they just get said and repeated and become the truth.

But no, not defending Labour, citing the fact that we have an incredibly bad government who have made many decisions that negatively impact many in society in favour of a few, yet the longest running political thread is anti Corbyn, and you claim MN is biased against the Tories.

10degreestostarboard · 07/09/2018 13:16

Topcat

Nice dodging of the question. Unluckily for you you didn’t win and now everything will change.

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 13:17

"topcat1980 You haven’t lived through many Prime ministers then,"

A great many actually, but the point is that you hold what Cameron said as being sacrosanct for the one thing that is politically expedient for you to do so, and ignore all the rest.

topcat1980 · 07/09/2018 13:18

"!Nice dodging of the question. Unluckily for you you didn’t win and now everything will change."

How did I dodge the question.

Everything will change, but not in the favour of many people.

Me? I'm going to be isnulated against any negative effects of Brexit, most people won't be.
