MNHQ here: results of our Brexit survey - 71% want another referendum

RowanMumsnet · 04/09/2018 10:35

Hello

We ran a survey on Mumsnet in August-September; more than 2000 of you took part. We were asking about your thoughts about Brexit and whether there should be a second referendum.

We're releasing the results today, and they show that 71% said they wanted another referendum (although 26% don't).

60% of survey respondents said they felt misled by claims made by campaigners in the 2016 referendum, including 41% who said they felt misled by claims made by the Leave campaign and 18% who said they felt misled by claims made by both Remain and Leave.

Summing up, one respondent said 'I envisaged jobs, travel and opportunity, not having a potato delivered by the army.'

You can read all about it here.

Thanks
MNHQ

what the survey results tell us about what MN users think.
I'm not sure it tells you anything about MN users, only those who responded

hamburgers · 05/09/2018 22:10

Oops! Ok BlushGrin

Coppersulphate · 05/09/2018 23:33

I did not take the survey.
I voted leave.
I was not mislead by any slogans nor am I racist.
I don’t like the EU.
I do not want another referendum.
We have had one. The answer was Leave.

alardi · 06/09/2018 04:51

Ah, my bad, I didn't expect the survey to report under
"Those who voted remain"
A count for those who answered
"I voted leave but..."

So I didn't read the title bit above, that says "Filter: Of those who voted Remain"

Very weird way to report results. Anyway, that's why I thought 0% had voted Leave. I didn't scroll down. Also, the option to say "I voted other" when results were filtered, is only available sometimes in the results. It's completely inconsistent whether the pointless fields are there to mislead.

Democracy and intelligent thought, 2 concepts you seem to be struggling with Hmm

Rosstac · 06/09/2018 09:30

alardi I didn’t even know there was a poll running, sorry,

RowanMumsnet · 06/09/2018 10:08

@Hazardswan

Thanks *@RowanMumsnet*

If you dont mind me asking...What's the office consenus for a further survey of brexit? i.e finding out if there are specfics of brexit that unit mumsnet users more. Such as concerns over the issues raised in the technical notices, lack of warehouse storage, the just in time food supply system, medication stockpiling. These issues I would imagine go beyond who voted what and have the potential to get everyone on the same page.

Thanks again, I think it's great mumsnet is willing to talk to the wider world about what their users think. Gin

Thanks - interesting idea re the further survey. Our Insight team is a bit busy at the moment but I'll ask around to see what people think.

By the way, to anyone saying they missed the survey and would have liked to take part - do sign up to our Insight Panel if you like. Being a member means you will get proactively emailed with almost all Mumsnet surveys, so don't have to rely on seeing them in Active.

A lot of Leave voters post here, like surferjet. Why didn't they take part in the poll?

I didn’t see it.
But I’m not on here everyday, I can go 3 or 4 days without coming on mumsnet, & even when I do pop on I don’t look at everything. Sometimes I just look at threads I’m on.
I’m honestly not bothered or complaining.
It’s all good.
although I think I’ll open the brexit arms tonight ( around 9pm ) so leavers can have a good drink/chat in peace. Remainers tongues will be firmly placed elsewhere Wink

Hazardswan · 06/09/2018 11:40

@RowanMumsnet Thats great - i appreciate it would be a bit of a challenge to say the least but I'm a believer in finding common ground so remain (haha sorry) optimistic that mutal agreement is there somewhere

Thanks again Flowers

deepsea · 06/09/2018 14:11

I didn't see the survey. I am a leaver.

Just how accurate is the survey one might ask....that and given the number of remainers on the forum I don't really think the survey result is a surprise in any way and means diddly squat.

We have already have the referendum, we voted to leave, we are not having another one.

deepsea · 06/09/2018 14:14

I don't think anyone will care about a one sided survey from Mumsnet to be fair. It is not news.

deepsea · 06/09/2018 14:19

It is a bloody travesty that Mumsnet have clearly appointed themselves part of the remain camp.

They really should have done the right thing and remained entirely neutral, and now they have severely compromised their ability to represent ALL of us. I am very very angry about this, and I am not sure I want to be part of a form that is so biased.

Who has hijacked mumsnet and its good name and turned into yet another project fear/second referendum brainwashing mechanism. Shame on you Mumsnet, shame on you.

topcat1980 · 06/09/2018 15:30

Mumsnet is neutral. It can't change the results of the survey.

Chickenkatsu · 06/09/2018 15:41

Good to see leavers getting paranoid, must be on the back foot.

DarlingNikita · 06/09/2018 15:55

MNHQ, do you have a response to deepsea? I'd be very interested to see it.

Talkstotrees · 06/09/2018 16:14

deepsea, can you please point to any Mumsnet bias? I must be missing something Hmm

1tisILeClerc · 06/09/2018 16:23

@deepsea
Had MNHQ been a 'remain' mouthpiece it would have put the Brexit topic area in a more prominent position, as has been requested by various contributors over the last 2 years or more.
The threads that are discussing it are eager to hear 'leavers' views and projections about what might happen in the UK when it leaves the EU. So far relatively little has appeared other than 'soundbites' taken from such esteemed papers as the Mail and Sun.
Once you get past the 'soundbites' it is very difficult to find any real 'data' on HOW well the UK will grow and answers to HOW the NHS will be funded and crops picked.
Leavers who have engaged and presented a credible point of view get a fair hearing in a constructive manner.
There is material appearing on the Westminsterenders thread about Turton St. Reading through it, and getting a glimpse of what the ERG 'poster boys' may well be up to is far more concerning than a complaint about MNHQ 'bias'.

A fair hearing?
Who the fuck do you think you are?

CardinalSin · 06/09/2018 17:08

Surfer, you have not once given a credible point of view...

PineappleSunrise · 06/09/2018 17:11

All online surveys are self-selecting.

surferjet · 06/09/2018 17:18

Surfer, you have not once given a credible point of view

lol. What. to a bunch of fanatical remainers?
My reasons for voting leave do not need approval by you.
We won remember - it’s remainers views who need approval.
And fwiw. I haven’t heard a credible reason for remaining from any of you. It’s just a load of whining bollocks.

CardinalSin · 06/09/2018 17:20

We know your reasons. You've already admitted it was purely because of "immigration".

You may have pinched meaningless phrases from the Daily Heil to pretend it was more than that, but that's par for the course.

1tisILeClerc · 06/09/2018 17:26

@surfer
Just another 'random' on an internet chat forum.
I don't however 'belittle' others, and I do make some effort to research other peoples assertions rather than shout 'project fear'.

surferjet · 06/09/2018 17:40

Brexit is new religion.
We will never agree.
In fact things are getting worse, & remainers are the ones to blame in my opinion.
You’ve done nothing but try & frustate the will of the people .....sorry, lower class idiots, since day one.
You are shameless.

CardinalSin · 06/09/2018 17:43

"Brexit is new religion"

We can agree on that! It's based on zero facts, has no internal logic, and is all about the feelz.
