I've been reading Brexit threads and it's always the same people talking about how unhappy they are about Brexit.
I guess Brexit leave voters have no time to waste on forums.

My dad fought in ww2. It really really pissed me off when people cite this.

We liberated ourselves as much as anyone else. That's what we fought for.
At that point we were lucky being an island nation. Since then it seems to have made us insular, with a low grip on reality and believe in myths.

If you actually read your history you'd also understand we helped create the conditions for ww2 to occur.

Ihatemycar · 22/08/2018 10:42

Definitely there aren't any Leavers reading this. Only remoaners. I guess leavers have no interest in MN.
Too busy doing something more productive like getting on with life and looking forward to a future outside the EU.
I'll get back to my holidays I still have 3 more weeks off.

“who needs fecking Europe anyway - we didn’t even get any help after the war - oh Did we? Oops no I’m not embarrassed about knowing so little - I won the war! -hey, we’re the best if you don’t like it fuck off to Europe - oh but I just voted to take away your right, did I? oh well - we brexiteers work more than you! except oh dear, we don’t? that would be awkward if I had the capacity for humility- fortunately I don’t! - ok we love our country more than you so nurhhh’

A typical ‘debate’ with a brexiteer.

Translation: Right, no-one is agreeing with me, so I'm not playing any more and am stalking off in a huff to prove I'm right.

There are hundreds of similar threads, all of which end up in exactly the same way.

mostdays · 22/08/2018 10:57

As goady threads go this isn't a bad attempt... I'll give it 6.5/10 for effort.

ProseccoPoppy · 22/08/2018 11:04

I’m actually slightly disappointed (albeit not really surprised) that OP won’t engage. I have simply asked some questions and indicated - accurately - that I am open to debate and discussion. Quite a few others have done the same. Quite telling that that doesn’t seem to be what OP wants...

Anasnake · 22/08/2018 11:07

Flounce flounce flounce .....

TheElementsSong · 22/08/2018 11:08

Anyone else see the enormous irony in the OP praising Leavers for not being on MN (and berating Remainers for being here) on their own thread that they started? GrinGrinGrin

TheElementsSong · 22/08/2018 11:10

Flounce flounce flounce .....

Actually, come to think of it, this thread is actually Brexit in microcosm 🤣

Helmetbymidnight · 22/08/2018 11:21

Spreadingcudweed · 22/08/2018 11:35

Spreadingcudweed I only talked about coffee shops as an example of how well business are doing in my area

well of course businesses are doing well now because we haven't left the EU yet; the full (I believe catastrophic) effects of Brexit will not become apparent for another decade yet at least

MongerTruffle · 22/08/2018 11:48

We indeed we the sick man of Europe because we liberate them. We didn't even get a thank you or help to rebuild.
That sentence makes no sense, but since you mentioned liberating other countries:
The UK's help to Poland when it was invaded by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union in September 1939 consisted of a half-hearted attempt at a probe to the wrong side of Germany. At the end of the war, the UK handed Poland over to the Soviet Union (paving the way for 45 years of communist rule), and showed no appreciation for the war efforts of the Polish men who fought for the UK.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_betrayal
The most nationalistic period in history was the early 1900s. That led to the First World War. The second most nationalistic period in history was the 1930s. That led to the Second World War. The third most nationalistic period in history is right now. Big problems arise when people think that their country is superior to all others.

Quietrebel · 22/08/2018 15:01

Nationalism is glorified tribalism and a step backwards in civilization. It's a proof of fear and weakness.

On a different note, Final Say petition now at over 700,000 signatures.

Great news! Is the Independent the only newspaper pulling this together? I have been impressed with the wide variety of articles from leavers, remain and various industries/service leaders. Other news outlets have done a piece here and there but nothing to the same standard IMO.

frumpety · 22/08/2018 15:25

I too believe in the UK , I happen to be biased , but think it really is a fabulous place. I haven't lived in any other European country, I have visited a few and they all have people very much the same as me, all having a similar biased view that their country is fabulous too.

I also believe that socially and economically this fabulous UK does a whole lot better being part of the EU trading bloc ( made up of all the other fabulous countries ) than it could ever hope to do on its own.

Believeitornot · 22/08/2018 18:48

There’s no point throwing stats and facts at the OP.

None at all.

They live in cloud cuckoo land

Twotabbycats · 22/08/2018 22:53

I've lived in Brussels, Germany and France, thanks op and speak fluent French and conversational German. I wasn't allowed to vote because of the ridiculous 15-year rule. I'd have liked to have a say in the future of the country of my birth, to have the option to return there, and to know that my family still living there will be ok. I'd also like to know that my future in my adopted country, where we own a house, is safe and not to have to jump through hundreds of bureaucratic hoops to stay there. But I don't suppose you give a flying fuck about all the people whose lives you've messed up.

Blushah · 23/08/2018 00:05

Ok, Unusually for me; as I am a 'believer' 😉 in RTFP before weighing in; I like to be informed before I cast my judgement, I kept up til 9:30am - but, it so appears that the OP is, in fact, a Goady Fucker.

Disappointing, especially for the occasional Leaver who can attempt some sort of semblance of an argument. But you get that. IN SPADES.

How disappointing, but utterly predictable.

Yes, it isn't Leavers who still want to debate the Clusterfuck of Brexit on here, it's Leavers who are as infantile as to mistake goading for wit.

Sad. Like your ultimate ideal Leader might say.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/08/2018 00:33

How many of you actually can say that you have lived in continental Europe? If you want to stay in the EU go and live there. Experience the utopia for yourselves.

How many points do I get? I have. And speak three languages. Is there a prize?

Helmetbymidnight · 23/08/2018 06:46

I don’t think she’s being goady - this is how the average brexiteer thinks ime. They struggle with reasoning and evidence and always come out with the same lines (usually referencing ww2)

surferjet · 23/08/2018 08:27

Remainers start more threads yes.
That’s because there’s more of them & they’re unhappy.

BertrandRussell · 23/08/2018 08:44

Still "walking on air and trusting our leaders", surferjet?

Hazardswan · 23/08/2018 08:48

I'm really optimistic that remainers are going to make waves for the better. They're mobilising in different ways across the country and more and more people who were previously unpolitical are getting involved. And that's all thanks to leavers.

Wine the wine is French so sorry Wine

Gin London gin might be more appropiate..except the aromatics come from abroad Gin

surferjet · 23/08/2018 09:00

If we’re the sick man of Europe, why do so many migrants risk there lives everyday to get here? Many of these migrants are already in France, a great EU country yes? so why don’t they want to stay there?
What attracts them to this shit hole?
Do you know?
