I've been reading Brexit threads and it's always the same people talking about how unhappy they are about Brexit.
I guess Brexit leave voters have no time to waste on forums.

Anasnake because they haven't had the opportunity. We are the only ones that had a referendum so far.
Other countries don't have strong economies so separating isn't much of a choice for them.

Still waiting OP. Any chance you could put my mind at ease and let me know what should be done about the border?

Anasnake · 25/08/2018 11:58

The EU's been around for over 50 years so they've had plenty of opportunity and France and Germany don't have strong economies?????

Anasnake · 25/08/2018 11:59

And please answer the Irish question

BakedBeans47 · 25/08/2018 12:01

I've lost all compassion for the idiots who voted Brexit out of spite and resentment. I hope they are the first in line to get fucked over. They asked for it and they're going to get it

This.

But hey, blue passports

Ihatemycar · 25/08/2018 12:01

Positively the EU wouldn't spit on us if we were on fire. They aren't our friends.
Individual countries may help but it's more likely that we'll help them than the other way round.
There are many different borders round the world some are heavily guarded some are not. It is important to find a solution but in true EU/Ireland style anything the UK proposes won't be accepted. Is that a reason to stay? Absolutely not.

The US, Canada and Australia are parts of other large trading blocs.
There are IIRC about 42 trading blocs, the UK will be out of all of them, at least to begin with and negotiations are measured in years, 7 being a low average. Can you hold your breath for 7 years?
Going back to the 'three men in a pub' video they explained that the EU is one of the three main trading blocs (in terms of financial transactions) and importantly has a significant amount of the wealth. It may be great trading with some of the other countries but do they have the cash and inclination to actually buy anything that the UK might make or do for them? Roughly speaking, no they don't, and they certainly won't be buying from the UK if they can get the equivalent goods or services from the EU at 10 percent LESS (due to the extra tariffs applied doe to WTO rules).
If you look at the Westminstenders thread at the contributions by BCF and RTB over the last 2 years at least you will see references to peer reviewed articles by experts who actually work in the various fields so they 'know' what is very likely to happen. The information is far more considered than thinking of a big number (like 350 Million) and painting it on the side of a bus.
No one else is seriously wanting to leave the EU because despite various 'niggles' on balance it is a good thing and goes a long way to providing security and at least a chance of prosperity to all of it's members. Security in a number of areas is wanted by all. Financial, your money will be worth pretty much tomorrow what it is worth today. The chance of war or massive civil disturbance is low and you have the possibility of prosperity.

PineappleSunrise · 25/08/2018 12:05

"Positively the EU wouldn't spit on us if we were on fire. They aren't our friends."

This looks like projection to me, Ihate.

Ihatemycar · 25/08/2018 12:06

Bakedbeans following that logic we are all going to get fucked then...
That's the spirit. Then you can tell us I told you so and we'll all live unhappily ever after.
Merchants of doom you lot.

OP posts:
Thomasinaa · 25/08/2018 12:17

Predicting doom doesn't make us responsible for it. You on the other hand...

1tisILeClerc · 25/08/2018 12:21

Depending how far you want to go back in history but most of the population of the UK are 'immigrants' from various parts of (mostly) Europe so genetically most UK citizens ARE European (a nation of mongrels).
One of the main things that 'pisses' other Europeans off is the British sense of (unwarranted) entitlement. Anyone barging in shouting how great they are puts peoples backs up, but working from a position of equality goes a long way.
In terms of economies, the UK is similar to France and a bit over half of Germany's. Germany has prospered despite a couple of good 'kickings' in world wars and the massive expense of reunification. It also has taken in a very significant number of migrants. It invests in other countries, BMW and Rolls Royce in the UK for example.

PositivelyPERF · 25/08/2018 12:21

Of course. No reason at all. Bty I’ve deliberately held back from posting the truest horrific pictures. But, so long as the Brexit supporters get what they want, then tuck the rest of us, in NI. Thanks for that.

Peregrina · 25/08/2018 12:23

....but in true EU/Ireland style anything the UK proposes won't be accepted. Is that a reason to stay? Absolutely not.

So you don't think that preserving an International Treaty which has helped to bring Peace to Northern Ireland is not worthwhile, Ihatemycar? Do you think leaving the EU is worth loss of life?

Peregrina · 25/08/2018 12:26

Cross post with PERF but those pictures sum up the situation better than my posting.

Anasnake · 25/08/2018 12:29

The BBC are showing a drama 'Mother's Day' about the Warrington bombing. An event that played a crucial role in bringing about the peace process. Maybe you'd like to watch it op.

snowqu33n · 25/08/2018 13:08

Hmm think don’t know when OP lived in Brussels etc. but when I first lived in France as a student in the last year of Thatcher we Brits were noticeably less well off than our French counterparts and everything was more expensive.
As part of the EU, despite opting out of the currency etc. we joined a larger economy which has since grown. California isn’t breaking away from the rest of the USA, even though lots of other states are considerably less well off at the moment. With China overtaking Japan as second biggest economy and other economies modernizing, the UK is just making itself insignificant in the global economy of today for the dumbest of reasons, or in some cases no reason at all. Just to protest the status quo, or feel important. I think some of the larger world powers are rubbing their hands in glee, and will be hoping to continue their success in other countries elections and referendums.
Sad.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 25/08/2018 13:34

To give the Op their due, they're still going, not running out of steam yet still seems to be spouting bunkum.

I'm not sure any leavers really understand our anger at what they've done.

Ta1kinpeace · 25/08/2018 13:36

I'm an immigrant of the non EU variety.
The little Englanders who think that the UK is something special really need to get out more.
The UK is nice, but its nothing extraordinary.

Thomasinaa · 25/08/2018 13:37

Sometimes, if you don't understand what other people are saying, you just need to accept that you're not as knowledgeable, or perhaps not as bright as they are, and respect their judgement?

Ihatemycar · 25/08/2018 13:44

Peregrina I'm sure a compromise will be reached between Ireland and N Ireland. Why would they want to start killing each other again?
Is the border between them reason to stop Brexit? Absolutely not.
We the British public were given a choice stay or go.
The majority decided to go. I would have accepted to stay if that was decided by the majority.

Really? You think it's that simple?

Ihatemycar · 25/08/2018 13:53

Brexit cannot be reversed. No amount of complaining will change where we are heading.
For good or bad we need to find a way to make it work. We don't have an option.
You can blame people like myself all day long makes no difference.
I would have preferred to stay in the EU if we've been able to make some reasonable changes. I do love some of the countries specially Belgium.
I think we could have done great things together but the EU it's inflexible and not dynamic.
Only time will tell but so far I don't regret voting out.

OP posts:
Anasnake · 25/08/2018 13:54

No compromise is being reached op - that's the whole point !

BertrandRussell · 25/08/2018 13:55

"I would have preferred to stay in the EU if we've been able to make some reasonable changes"

What changes?

Ihatemycar · 25/08/2018 13:59

Ta1 we may not be extraordinary according to you but here you are. Most be better than your own country or you wouldn't be here.
At least if the shit hits the fan you can always go back home. Win win for you.
Why would you settle here if it isn't that good? The weather it's awful for starters...
