Do you think street parties, riots, candlelit vigils, what?

I think a lot of the ‘drama’ will happen beforehand- at the very least, I think people will start buying a lot of extra food, and the supermarkets will be emptier.

As for the rest, it sort of depends what kind of Brexit we have really- I am very worried about what a no deal might mean.

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 21/08/2018 04:22

I think lots of people won’t turn out for work/school/whatever.

There will be a lot of stockpiling the days and weeks before. The shelves will be bare in places. Certain foods will come into stock and go out of stock very quickly and fresh foods will be scarce.

There will be queues for food and petrol. This will all happen whether things are looking (some kind of) secure or not because so few of us trust any deal this government brokers.

The poor will suffer, domestic violence rates will rise (it always does when there is a financial crisis) and I’ll spend weeks and months stitching and gluing people back together. Well actually I won’t, I’ll be on maternity leave then.

ETPhoneHome1471 · 21/08/2018 04:53

We are a cautionary tale. I'm busy 'stockpiling'. Loads of leaver types will be a long soon shouting 'project fear' etc! Arseholes!!

SoloD · 21/08/2018 07:24

I don't think there will be an Brexit Day.

The polls are shifting against Brexit.

cloudtree · 21/08/2018 07:27

Im hoping all will be fine and other than the inevitable price increases, things will be more or less the same.

I'm worried that this won't be the case and personally I'm not taking the risk. We will be/are stockpiling food and essentials

Yup. And Flowers for minilittletoolshed

It's only a mad panic if you make it one. The media enjoy whipping up the mob, as they always do.

In reality goods and services will continue to move. It is in the interests of all participants. The business world pays far less attention to the media and finds sensible solutions to potential issues.

GlacindaTheTroll · 21/08/2018 07:45

We'll all be utterly sick of hearing 'The. Final Countdown'

And waiting for something to happen and be different.

Peregrina · 21/08/2018 07:45

Businesses are trying to find solutions e.g. the Road Haulage Association has been saying how they will be affected. So far it's fallen on deaf ears as far as the Government is concerned. They have been too busy fighting among themselves and only now, more than two years on, are they beginning to think of the practicalities.

CherryPavlova · 21/08/2018 08:01

I think inflation will spiral and affect most those who voted to leave whilst those who created the situation (Farage, Boris, Gove, Cameron) will remain relatively unscathed because their wealth is maintained overseas. In fact, very wealthy Brexiteers will benefit from the desperation and reduced incomes of those they tricked.

There will be increasing numbers of jobs moving from UK. Job losses aren’t fully reported but the list of companies moving their bases overseas already is staggering. There will be far more zero hours contracts which are portrayed as full employment but which fail to protect workers or provide security.

I think hate crime, reactionary racism and sexism will become more prevalent still. The far right message of mistrust, differences, jealousy and grudges will increase and be pandered to by the BBC and right wing press.

I think they’ll be food shortage and empty supermarket shelves. There will be less generosity in donations to food banks so the most vulnerable hit the hardest.

I think we’ll see drugs shortages and potentially the full demise of the NHS as recruitment fails and those remaining get to remaking no point. There is no extra money for the NHS in reality and goodwill goes only so far. Drug prices will rise and drugs will be harder to come by. Medical research will decline having a longer term impact.

The M2 and M20 will become car parks initially. Holidays already paid for will be lost. Overseas travel will become more expensive. There will be less tourism to U.K.

Still we may get blue passports and retain the sovereignty that we never actually lost.

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 08:09

CherryPavlova all of this will happen on Brexit day, that’s an all full lot to happen on one day, I would imagine to answer the question not a lot will be noticeably different on Brexit day, unless according to some you are in some way intending to leave the country for business or holiday,

Ifailed · 21/08/2018 08:09

this.

What Do You Think Will Happen On Brexit Day?
Rosstac · 21/08/2018 08:12

Sorry forgot to add it obviously depends on any or no deal the gov has or hasn’t negotiated and if we are in a transitional period or not, I have like some people got a crystal ball or a time machine

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 08:14

Ifailed Is that Day 1 or Day 2 or Day 30 ?

AlexaShutUp · 21/08/2018 08:17

It's so bloody depressing! However, it's not really what happens on Brexit day that I'm worried about, it's what happens after.

I certainly won't be going to any street parties. Sad

MyBrexitUnicornDied · 21/08/2018 08:19

I don't think there will be an Brexit Day

I really hope you are right. If we get a deal things will slowly get a bit more shit.

If it’s no deal, thangs will get a lot shit quickly. I’m expecting some panic buying and empty shelves.

Slatternsdelight · 21/08/2018 08:20

Plagues of locusts, ravens leaving the tower etc etc

Much like the millennium bug, I imagine the day will pass as normal

Helmetbymidnight · 21/08/2018 08:20

Hopefully, the 17 million leavevoters will be celebrating and happy at least.

prettybird · 21/08/2018 08:30

Can I claim Brexit Bingo?! Grin

Someone has mentioned the Millennium Bug, implying that no work was involved in the day passing as normal Confused

Ifailed · 21/08/2018 08:34

prettybird I'm afraid not. ETPhoneHome1471 beat you with "project fear" on the 5th post.

Figmentofmyimagination · 21/08/2018 08:35

I really hope we don't lose control of the currency. Think 'The Mandibles' by (ironically, pro brexit) Lionel shriver. (Venezuela is a real life example, but shriver's account is more compelling because it takes place in our closest ideological bedfellow, the United States.

woman11017 · 21/08/2018 08:37

Have the brexit boys/girls mentioned 'hysteria'? That's my favourite.

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 21/08/2018 08:37

Sweet fuck all. People will go to work, come home, eat dinner and go to bed as normal. Some idiots will use it as an excuse to be hysterical. It's brexit, not the end of bloody days and I say that as a remainer.

Figmentofmyimagination · 21/08/2018 08:38

Lots and lots of extra overseas tourists I expect, as Turkey has experienced with the fall in its currency over the last couple of weeks, picking over luxury items and enjoying our cheap luxury hotels while everything still works.
