Is there any way Brexit can be stopped?

I think there will be more civil unrest if it goes ahead than if it doesn't.

At this point, what can we do to stop it happening? People are going to die. And all because of the hubris of David Cameron and racism.

I've noticed something really confusing, and I'm hoping someone can clear it up for me.

Point 1: Not following through on the referendum would undermine democracy. That's bad.

Point 2: The people who campaigned for Leave had turned out to be really dodgy, and their campaign both broke the law and is subject to an ever-widening inquiry into foreign powers using social media and other tech platforms (like forums) to spread disinformation aimed at influencing voters and get elections to turn out a certain way. (There is now shedloads of evidence on this.)

Point 3: Oh well, everyone knows politicians lie so it doesn't matter anyway.

So, taken all together this appears to mean that "democracy" is a system in which elections are characterised by flagrant disinformation, but that's okay because voters know that they should vote for the shinest pack of lies and not worry about what happens afterwards, because as long as their pack of lies won then the outcomes don't matter at all.

In fact, trying to hold politicians to their promises or make them change their plans if they can't deliver on them is naive AND against democracy. Because all that matters is the lies voted for on the day, which gives a the government power to do whatever they want no matter how it turns out for the voters.

Have I got that right?

Yes you have Pineapple. Outcomes don’t matter. Have a little faith, etc. Hmm

We are truly through the looking glass.

I do think the tide is turning. I have said before that demographics are not in Leave’s favour as more and more young people become able to vote and older people start to die off.

Will the tide turn quickly enough, and will it go far out enough?

Of course it can be stopped if political leaders want it stopped. They do not want it stopped. They don't usually care about "the will of the people", so why do they suddenly care this time?

The majority of politicians want Brexit because it gives them more power and control; plus some people in power are actually evil and want misery inflicted on the plebs; plus they can just leave whenever they want.; plus the UK is financially fucked, and politicians need Brexti as an excuse to blame the poor people for everything going wrong. I'm sure there are other reasons I don't know about.

TM was never a remainer, I don't now why people believe she was. How probable is it that a person would go from wanting to be part of the EU to choosing the off the cliff, car crash option.

People are so gullible.

This is true, look at the reforms IDS put into disability benefit, continuing to implement them even though the evidnce showed people were killing themselves over decisions made.
Or the changes made to universal credit, where domestic abusers are given complete control over the families finances.
You dont need to be Sherlock to realise paying money into only one bank account is gong to cause (mainly) women to be even more tied some bullying c.u.nt.

Problems caused by Brexit are nothing compared to some of the things the Tories have done (or Blair did over the Iraq war)

Electrascoffee · 01/08/2018 17:42

The things the government has done are bad enough. With Brexit as well I do fear for the future.

The standard of paying a joint claim into one bank account was the same under tax credits. This is not a change.
