I think there will be more civil unrest if it goes ahead than if it doesn't.

At this point, what can we do to stop it happening? People are going to die. And all because of the hubris of David Cameron and racism.

I’ve signed up to the People’s Campaign. And will go to the march in London in October. I’ve never marched for anything in my life.

I really really hope it can be stopped. I was gutted at the initial result but as time has gone on and I see the utter utter shambles that they are making of negotiations I just feel sick. I’m Irish living in uk and the whole Northern Ireland issue makes me incensed too. There was no thought given to what impact it might have.

DH doesn’t share my views so we can’t even discuss it any more as we argue. He voted remain but feels now that leaving is the better option. He thinks Brussels are being to intransigent. Of course they bloody are! They can afford to be.

CiderwithBuda · 29/07/2018 11:14

The whole Leave campaign was based on lies lies and more lies.

rosy71 · 29/07/2018 11:18

I hope it can be. I think there should be some sort of public vote on what happens. The whole thing seems like a farce to me.

Parker231 · 29/07/2018 11:19

I don’t think it can be stopped as the majority voted for it - it’s not the best of three!

I think those talking about civil unrest and people dying are being incredibly overdramatic. It’s not a world war and comments like that don’t help anyone.

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 29/07/2018 11:24

I don't believe it can, I also don't believe it should be. You can't keep voting until you're happy with the outcome, that's just not the way it works.

Namethecat · 29/07/2018 11:24

It's not Theresa May that voted us out ( as a previous post suggests) it's the people of the UK that wanted out.
Acting as a devils advocate here. People vote for various things by elections, general elections etc . So if say a political party is voted in ( whichever one) then if it is not the one you wanted and likewise thousands of others also didn't get who they wanted . What happens ? Answer nothing, because you were in the minority . Same with Brexit.

Electrascoffee · 29/07/2018 11:25

No, it's not a World War which would be a genuine emergency.

This absolute madness is the result of ignorance and lies. And it needs to be stopped. Sadly the egos of those in charge will eclipse those who are going to live a hellish existence as a result of this grave error.

After a general election you’re only stuck with them for a maximum of 5 years though.

Dandygal1976 · 29/07/2018 11:27

I think we were thrown under the bus by the older generation tbh. I know my mum would now vote remain now new facts are out.

Grandmaswagsbag · 29/07/2018 11:28

I actually think it will be stopped. MPs will vote the deal down beacause it will be shit and economic suicide for the country and we will revert back to membership, which the EU wants. The whole exercise will have been a costly and embarrassing debacle.

BoneyBackJefferson · 29/07/2018 11:29

.

pitttapatter · 29/07/2018 11:30

The People's March for a second vote / anti-Brexit was partly funded by the billionaire George Soros. One has to wonder if his aims are purely philanthropic.

lettuceWrap · 29/07/2018 11:31

Yes it can be stopped. At the very least we should all get a vote on the actual negotiated terms of the deal.
The independent newspaper is running a campaign.

Every media outlet was full of Bregretter votes in June 2016. Funny enough, there wasn't even a lot of gleeful celebration from Leave side. But a huge catharsis of "Oh my god what have we done?!" for sure. Everywhere.

Why shouldn't I have severe doubts that this shitshow is what folk really want?

Electrascoffee · 29/07/2018 11:43

Thank you Lettuce.

I know my mum would now vote remain now new facts are out.

My dad wouldn't because he's got it into his head that the local airport is being used to sneak in illegal immigrants. His mate told him so it must be true. And he's so determined not to be wrong that he'll ignore the fact there is not one report of it happening.

I wholly support a People's Vote, not as a rerun of the referendum but as a vote on an actual agreed plan. I do think it will be close though, as there are too many still obsessed with immigration and Islamophobia.

lljkk · 29/07/2018 11:52

I feel sure plenty Remain voters in 2016 would change to Leave now having seen no Disaster happened. Which is fine. I'd still like to see that this reality is what a majority want, now that we see how much can't happen & how difficult it's going to be, and that the Brexit Saga will continue for decades, etc.

I don't feel confident that voters in 2016 knew what Brexit would mean (they seemed to say so a lot, before & immediately after the 2016 vote).

Ballora · 29/07/2018 11:59

I really hope so. I'm a type 1 diabetic, I've been informed that a no deal Brexit will definitely lead to shortages of insulin. Without insulin I will die, so death is a reality for people dependent on medication to survive Sad

Childrenofthesun · 29/07/2018 12:04

People vote for various things by elections, general elections etc . So if say a political party is voted in ( whichever one) then if it is not the one you wanted and likewise thousands of others also didn't get who they wanted . What happens ?

What happens is that if those voted in do a shit job, you get a chance after a maximum of 5 years to vote them out. Are we saying that a snapshot vote should be respected forever, even if it leaves our economy devastated for 50 years, as that's how long even JR-M thinks it will take to see any benefits? Only 3 generations or so down the pan because of how an ill-informed electorate, manipulated by lies, outside interference and illegal spending voted at one moment in time? There should be the option to reconsider such lunacy.

drearydeardre · 29/07/2018 12:42

I find it astounding that you are all ignoring the many lies told by the 'remain' side - you know project fear !
remember the £9m tax-payer funded leaflet by the UK government in april 2016

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 29/07/2018 12:46

It's horrible, storms, the sun falling out of the sky, zombies, God himself dying.

All because of an apparent bunch of 'racists' who outweighed the people who were perfect and voted.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 29/07/2018 12:48

And don't get me started on Dracula, maybe we can finally send him back, living here biting our women!

Talkstotrees · 29/07/2018 12:54

What do you not like about the Govt leaflet, Deardre?

BromBromTong · 29/07/2018 13:15

I don't understand why leavers aren't more concerned with their own Government recommending they start stockpiling. Even those useless twats know it's going to be a rocky transition.

All this fake bravadio, why Confused

I won't be here then so will watch from afar. I don't know if long term it will be a disaster but it's definitely going to be short term.
