Why are they allowed to get away with it?

No replies wanted, just need this put out there.

I've found them to have the clearest analysis recently.

surferjet · 17/07/2018 21:18

Presenters are there to present the news in a balanced and unbiased way, otherwise what’s the point? we’re not getting the news are we, we’re getting their anti Brexit slant on everything.

Actually they're not. News and factual programmes have to show balance it that doesn't mean that the presenters can't have views. Otherwise Andrew Neil wouldn't exist.

BertrandRussell · 17/07/2018 21:20

What sort of things does he say?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/07/2018 21:23

How can anyone remain unbiased about the fucking joke that Brexit is?

SwedishEdith · 17/07/2018 21:23

They're the only ones doing any real analysis. Talking to DFDS tonight because that's a real company who will be directly damaged by Brexit.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/07/2018 21:25

I suspect it is the analysis that the op objects to. Leavers have never been big on detail.

Moussemoose · 17/07/2018 21:26

The trouble is the facts stack up against Brexit. They just do. If C4 were to put forward pro Brexit comments it would be speculation and in all probability incorrect.

Sorry you don't like that.

Bearbehind · 17/07/2018 21:26

I've long since said Leave is a cult and you don't get much more cult like than wanting to silence those who have a different view to you and make sure it's only your message that gets heard.

SwedishEdith · 17/07/2018 21:26

And they had interviews with David Davis and Desmond Swayne. Do you disagree with journalists asking them questions? Maybe stick to the Today programme if you don't like hearing inconvenient news.

BertrandRussell · 17/07/2018 21:27

Surely it’s just reporting? Parliamentary chaos. Leave campaign illegally funded. Not sure anyone could make positive stories out of that lot............

MrsChollySawcutt · 17/07/2018 21:29

I think the problem you have noticed is that the newsroom reporters are educated, intelligent people whose job it is to actually point out what is happening in the world and what the (disastrous) impact of Brexit could be. It's important that people understand what we are about to do to our economy and our children's futures.

If you just want to stick your head in sand and bleat on about being in control and having sovereignty just keep reading the Daily Mail.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 17/07/2018 21:29

Is it?? I must watch it more. Brexit vote was pretty close iirc so if channel 4 is anti brexit then it's cool with nearly half ty population. Result

Other news programmes are available

EveningShadows · 17/07/2018 21:30

Still waiting OP - positive news on Brexit? Come on, there must be loads of good news on Brexit?

Oh, hold on . . . . .

ragged · 17/07/2018 21:31

Presenters are there to ask hard critical questions & help hold power to account.

If Brexiters can't defend the shiny turd that might just be because it is a turd, however shiny.

TheElementsSong · 17/07/2018 21:31

I've long since said Leave is a cult and you don't get much more cult like than wanting to silence those who have a different view to you and make sure it's only your message that gets heard.

I think it’s very good to see such honesty in their agenda, we need more like the OP.

KentishMama · 17/07/2018 21:32

OP, what would you like them to say about Brexit? What are these positive news stories that Channel 4 isn't reporting?

Yaralie · 17/07/2018 21:34

This is the problem. Most leave voters are not interested in facts or evidence. let alone expert opinion. They live in a little DM/Express/Sun bubble where they get their daily dose of indoctrination.

BrittW · 17/07/2018 21:39

Yeah, works both ways ......

You could read the The New Statesman, the Guardian, or the Daily Mirror and live in your little echo chamber where Remain is the route to the magical sunny uplands of global Britain.

I agree, Surferjet that C4 News is not so much news, but a recap of the presenters views. There's a gang of apparatchiks on there apart from Guru-Murthy & Snow, such as Cathy Newman, Matt Frei et al. The latter is shameless on his LBC programme. They remind me of bullies emboldened by their numbers and not actually wanting to see the 'bad' in their target. Unprofessional and a malign influence on critical thinking.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/07/2018 21:41

The thing is, analysis points to brexit being a disaster. To report it as anything else would be putting a spin on things.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/07/2018 21:43

Since when were staples of the brexit cult - the mail and the sun bastions of critical thinking?

LBC is the home of Farage Ffs

GreenMeerkat · 17/07/2018 21:43

Should the BBC also be taken off air for being pro-brexit and biased then?

SusanWalker · 17/07/2018 21:45

The trouble is the facts of brexit are uncomfortable. The BBC gets round this by allowing opinion to have the same status as fact.

So we can have a fact that there is no brexit dividend (as confirmed today by the OBR) and a brexiteer will counter that saying they believe that there will be a dividend. And that is allowed to stand because it makes the BBC feel they are being balanced.

But in real life facts trump opinions. And if the media had acknowledged that years ago brexit would most likely have never happened.

MarmiteTermite · 17/07/2018 21:46

Thanks for the recommendation - look forward to tuning in when I get back from my hols in Italy.

surferjet · 17/07/2018 21:47

News presenters should keep their personal political views to themselves, C4 news is not a newspaper! I shouldn’t know whether they vote labour or Tory, or whether they voted leave or remain.
I’ve listened to Jeremy Vine over the past 18 months and he’s interviewed everyone from Nigel Farage to Vince Cable, & I honestly couldn’t tell you if he’s a leaver or a remainer, he keeps his personal views out of his interviews which makes for much better journalism.
