The referendum was won on a number of lies. Remeber the £350 million for the NHS?

Now we know about things like the Billions we need to spend on the divorce bill, the Billions we have to spend on trade, the Billions we have to spend on replicating services which we used to share between the EU countries, the Billions in lost tax revenue as companies move jobs abroad, it may be a good idea to have a rethink.

Can someone please let me know about the benefits of Brexit? Just one indisputable benefit?

The costs are clear enough...

surferjet · 22/07/2018 09:56

So vote Remain didn’t tell a single lie?
Didn’t over spend by a single penny?
Didn’t speak to anyone other than Stephen Fry, Billy Bragg, & Jesus?

You’re all just brainwashed fanatics.

Well please enlight us if they did.

In the meantime the Benefits of Brexit are what?

Mistigri · 22/07/2018 10:01

*Remainers do not respect British values.
They want to overturn the referendum & stay in the EU. *

Holding an opinion and expressing it in a legal manner is entirely compatible with British values.

If you think remain cheated, take the evidence to the authorities.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/07/2018 10:03

Brainwashed fanatics?

My concerns are very practical. I worry about medicines, food, whether I'll be able to buy my contacts, whether I can take my dogs with me when traveling. I worry about jobs and environment protection.Hardly fanatical stuff.

Meanwhile Brexiteers are going on about British Values and Taking our country back.

So who is the brainwashed fanatic here?

BertrandRussell · 22/07/2018 10:05

"Let’s have a full investigation into vote Remains contacts shall we?

Happy to. Can you name some names?

Anasnake · 22/07/2018 10:06

What will the benefits be op ? (With evidence)

ConstantlyCold · 22/07/2018 10:06

So vote Remain didn’t tell a single lie?

If the campaign for Remain did lie it actually strengthens the argument for another referendum.
Lies on the Leave side (loads of them). Lies on the remain side (not sure what they were but let’s say there were). Surely that means we need another referendum?

Anasnake · 22/07/2018 10:07

'Brainwashed fanatics' - do they believe blatant lies written on the side of a bus ?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/07/2018 10:08

One of the benefits will be that Europe will be safe from my beastly dogs who take up a considerable amount of space in their cafes.

PostNotInHaste · 22/07/2018 10:13

Actually the more you post in here makes me feel more confident that it is worth everyone who is opposed to the utter insanity that is happening at the moment, to start fighting back and not take this lying down . If things were going well you wouldn’t be posting this which means there is a huge window of opportunity at the moment and I for one will not be missing it.

My allotment neighbour used to say, how do you eat an elephant ? Answer is not in one go. I think we as individuals need to think what we could do to try and change things. If we each can get just one person to slight change their view in some way and then get them to speak to others it could be quite powerful. We need to remember 47.6 million did not vote for this and of the 17.4 million who did a chunk of them will not have voted for this carnage and devestation that is currently occurring where we are being told that we are going to receive Government directives to help us cope with a hard Brexit in March.

We’re actually having to think about the possibility of food shortages apparently, this is utterly insane. And whilst all this energy is going into sorting the current carnage and turmoil, our services are getting cut more and more. Huge amounts of money are going Brexit that could be spent on making lives better for people now, badly needed when there are children going hungry . If people start stockpiling food and they will now the idea is out, then less food will be given to foodbanks so less available for the increasing numbers who need it

You don’t need to be an expert to see this situation is ludicrous and unsustainable, something needs to change and fast. How many more deaths like the Windrush Gentleman who was too scared to go to the Doctor due to current climate of fear ?

Thank you Surferjet for helping me to collect my thoughts and energising me to start fighting properly in the name of the 47.6 million. I can see now how we can make a difference on an individual level if we start small. It’s like a ripple effect when you throw a stone into still water. Busy week coming up for me.

pointythings · 22/07/2018 10:13

Let’s have a full investigation into vote Remains contacts shall we?

Sure, let's do it. If evidence comes out that Remain did all the same things that Leave did, there absolutely should be an investigation. I'm waiting....

Meanwhile you are an embarrassment to British democracy, surfer. Shut the fuck up? Is that the Leave level of debate? You won't silence me, because the UK is still a free country with a reasonably free press where people are free to express their opinions. If you don't like it, North Korea is ----> that way.

Anasnake · 22/07/2018 10:16

Completely agree Post

Anasnake · 22/07/2018 10:20

This is the same op who thinks we shouldn't take part in Eurovision either Hmm

surferjet · 22/07/2018 10:21

I understand why remainers voted the way they did,

  1. Personal interest, ( wanting to keep cheap labour, have no shame in exploiting immigrants etc )
  2. Lack of vision, ( can’t see further than the end of next week )
  3. No concept of ‘a different way’ ( voted for what they know, which is fair enough )
  4. Anti - British ( Europeans are so much better / ‘cooler’ / we want to be like them! )

I understand.
But you lost.
So we need to get behind Brexit and make a success of it.

OP posts:
SoloD · 22/07/2018 10:22

There is a very short window of opportunity for this. My company is looking at options to open a subsidiary in Ireland so it can trade and work in the EU where we have around 50% of our sales. Unfortunately, that means shifting some jobs out of the UK. This was not the Brexit promised.

SoloD · 22/07/2018 10:23

surferjet

How do we make a success of Brexit? It is a total car crash.

falcon5 · 22/07/2018 10:25

And why are you adamant that this particular brand of brexit is respecting all the millions of leave voters anyway ? There may be lots who changed their mind because they actually wanted Norway model not this. You cant say this model was the will of the people because the referendum never showed that.

Anasnake · 22/07/2018 10:25

Still waiting for the benefits of Brexit ? You've been asked multiple times.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/07/2018 10:27

No, the reason I voted Remain was because I was able to see further than the end of the week and it was clear that UK cannot afford to stand alone in an globalised economy.

Bodoni · 22/07/2018 10:28

I wondered about the origin of will of the people (e.g. does it mean a small majority of a small part of the population on one question) and looked it up on Wikipedia. Oh dear, it originates with some foreigner called Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and the entry says this:

"Some commentators see it as no more than the dictatorship of the proletariat or the tyranny of the urban poor (such as may perhaps be seen in the French Revolution). Such was not Rousseau's meaning. This is clear from the Discourse on Political Economy, where Rousseau emphasizes that the general will exists to protect individuals against the mass, not to require them to be sacrificed to it. He is, of course, sharply aware that men have selfish and sectional interests which will lead them to try to oppress others. It is for this reason that loyalty to the good of all alike must be a supreme (although not exclusive) commitment by everyone, not only if a truly general will is to be heeded but also if it is to be formulated successfully in the first place"

SoloD · 22/07/2018 10:29

No, I voted remain, because for all it's many failings, being in the EU is better for the UK than being out of the EU.

It gives us access to the largest market in the world, free trade access to many of the worlds biggest economies, we are free to travel & live abroad, our children can access education across the Europe.

It lets us stand up to countries like China and yes America when they do stupid things like tariffs on Steel.

It lets us pool resources, there is one regulator for Aerospace for example, who certifies aircraft and parts. Without that the UK will have to replicate the same expertise and cost. Already Rolls Royce is shift jobs to Germany because the UK is not ready.
