Why are they allowed to get away with it?

No replies wanted, just need this put out there.

  1. No
  2. No
  3. No
  4. No

I voted Remain because I believe in the fact that we, as a country, are better off in a large Free Trade area.

I voted Remain because I believe in the vision of a peaceful and cooperative Europe with common aims.

I voted Remain not because I thought the EU was perfect but that we had a positive contribution to make to it and that the UK shouldn't - and couldn't - go back to the days of the Empire when it could tell other countries what to do.

I voted Remain because I am proudly Scottish and European. I speak French but don't think that they are "cooler" than me Confused

ConstantlyCold · 22/07/2018 10:32

So we need to get behind Brexit and make a success of it

I would find it easier to “get behind Brexit” if you could explain the actual tangible benefits to me.

surferjet · 22/07/2018 10:32

Why do you think remaining in the EU would have been so great?
You voted to stay in a customs union as it was in June 2016, what will the EU look like in another 10 years?
You basically signed over our future for them to do with what they like - because if vote remain had won that would have been it, there wouldn’t have been another referendum for 50 years most probably.

You didn’t know what you were voting for anymore than the ‘idiot’ leave voters did.

Actually Surferjet you show time and time again that you fail to understand on any level but there is clearly no point anyone trying to engage you on this, we’re better off putting our energies into those who voted Leave and are shocked by the ridiculous state of turmoil that has unravelled the country as a result.

There needs to be a climate where people who voted Leave but did not vote for what has happened to feel ok to say ‘this is not what I wanted’ and those us who voted Remain need to make sure we contribute to this in whatever way we can.

SoloD · 22/07/2018 10:34

I want clean beaches to swim in, clean air to breath.

I want the jobs trade with the EU brings, the taxes paid from those jobs.

I am sure that the 4 million Britons who live in the EU, like the option to do that.

I like the fact we share information on potential terrorists and can have criminals arrested when abroad.

I like the consumer protection laws which stop companies ripping us off.

The CBI estimates that the net benefit of EU membership is worth 4-5% of GDP to the UK, or £62bn-£78bn per year.

SoloD · 22/07/2018 10:37

surferjet

Actually, the UK had a lot of influence in Europe, why do you think we have things like the rebate and the various opt-outs which no other country has?

Much of what has been reported in the DM and the Sun are actually barefaced lies or half-truths. Don't take my word for it, research it yourself.

prettybird · 22/07/2018 10:37

And contrary to Surferjet's belief in Remainers "selfishness" and "self-interest" HmmConfused, every time I go through one of my period waves of thinking, "we need to crash out in the hardest possible way so that Leavers understand just how wrong they were. The devastation caused will help the case for Scottish independence" Shock I pull myself up for it because even though there is self-interest there, the pain and suffering that would be inflicted on the poorest and most vulnerable in UK society is not a price worth paying even if Leavers seem to think it is Sad

I’m sorry but you’re being brainwashed by project fear.

The media are mostly anti Brexit so they’ll feed you anything they want.

Nothing anyone says will stop you thinking the way you do, because as a remainer, you’re wired to process bad news.

Mistigri · 22/07/2018 10:41

So we need to get behind Brexit and make a success of it.

Nope. You need to get behind brexit and make a success of it. What are you doing to bring about a successful brexit?

Those of us who think brexit will be bad for Britain should carry right on exercising our free-speech right to say loudly and often that we disagree with it.

pointythings · 22/07/2018 10:44

I'm an EU national and so I didn't vote.

But I see my DDs' friends robbed of the chance to study and work in 27 other countries without boundaries.

I see the government warning us to stockpile food.

I see Leavers swiftly taking their investments out of the UK so they can profit from their acts and leave the rest of us stranded.

And most of all I remember my Dad, who survived German occupation in WW2 and I remember that the EU was primary formed to prevent another major war in Europe. If that's not good enough for you, the problem is yours.

SoloD · 22/07/2018 10:44

surferjet

Really not brainwashed by anyone. I actually understand very well some of the technical aspects of what is happening.

Several people on here have asked you for the benefits of Brexit. Not once have you responded.

The cost of Brexit clear. It will make this country a lot poorer. We can quantify the amounts. These are indisputable.

Please let us know the benefits or take a look at yourself and ask if you might be brainwashed.

pointythings · 22/07/2018 10:46

Those of us who think brexit will be bad for Britain should carry right on exercising our free-speech right to say loudly and often that we disagree with it.

This. You chose it. Your broke it. You fix it. Those of us who voted Remain have no duty whatsoever to get behind Brexit.

TheElementsSong · 22/07/2018 10:47

You, & C4 news, need to respect the vote of the British people or shut the fuck up.

Who is anti-British again?

Scoopofchaff · 22/07/2018 10:48

With regard to your first point Surferjet have a look at this.

I think you will find it is people like Rees-Smugg and James Dyson that want cheap labour and unregulated labour markets. The latter has been quite open about wanting to take advantage of 'flexible labour environments' post Brexit.

PostNotInHaste · 22/07/2018 10:48

Surferjet you are deeply in denial about how much this is effecting many many people’s lives. You are entrenched in your way of thinking because it is easier to do that than admit you are wrong. You’re a puppet of multi millionaires and have been manipulated. No shame in that, many people have been .

You are now wired to find bits of information which will back up your views which are clearly becoming more entrenched on a daily basis as you appear to not see that this turmoil is effecting some people’s lives right now in a very negative way and will get much much worse in the future if something does not change.

You have been betrayed by the politicians you trusted and are as much a victim in this as the rest of us.

Mistigri · 22/07/2018 10:50

I'm an EU national and so I didn't vote.

I'm a Briton and I couldn't vote.

I'm under no obligation to say nice things about this shit show, or about the imbeciles in government who are turning it into a catastrophe, or about the ignorant/small-minded/ self-interested people who voted for it.

Scoopofchaff · 22/07/2018 10:52

Same here Mistigri and I couldn't agree with you more!

SoloD · 22/07/2018 10:52

You can believe me (and other) remainers are brainwashed but the facts are the facts.
Here are the facts about Aerospace. The same situation will be faced in most of our industries.

surferjet · 22/07/2018 10:53

The benefits of Brexit have been discussed a million times on these boards, by people a lot more informed & intelligent than me. Each time, they have been shouted down by a small, but very aggressive & vocal pack of remainers.
Hence why hardly any leavers post here now.

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 22/07/2018 10:53

I still remember surferjet posting about "walking on air" the day after the referendum, then, when asked how Brexit was going to work out saying "I don't know, but I trust our leaders". Not entirely sure we're going to get much sense out of her now.......

Anasnake · 22/07/2018 10:54

I missed those posts op so please recap the benefits, thank you

surferjet · 22/07/2018 10:54

You’re probably right, we’re all victims in one way or another.

"Each time, they have been shouted down by a small, but very aggressive & vocal pack of remainers."

If it's a "small" pack, how do they "shout down" a well informed majority?

Quietrebel · 22/07/2018 10:56

@pointythings, I keep telling leavers I know the same thing: the purpose of the EU is existential, it's not only a faceless trade organisation. I had a grand father in Dunkirk, a great grand father killed in the Resistance and DH's family was one of millions displaced in Eastern Europe after WWII. What our ancestors on both sides kept repeating: there was one common enemy in Europe- nationalism. It ruined us and we can't let it happen again.

twofingerstoEverything · 22/07/2018 10:56

surfer So we need to get behind Brexit and make a success of it.

Okay. I am now ready and willing to 'get behind Brexit'. What should my first steps be? How can I demonstrate that I'm 'getting behind' it? Should I go marching with these people, who, coincidentally, are also whinging about the biased media coverage? Or maybe . The 'identitarians' (lots of their flags in the first link) look like a particularly savoury bunch, but I'm willing to take a hit for the good of the country. I'm also willing to not stockpile, but please tell me how else I can 'get behind' my country. I suppose, I could join some of those pro-Brexit groups on Facebook and programme myself to write 'we won, get over it' under all dissenting below the line comments. What else can I do, though [wrings hands...]?
