I am over 65, pay UK tax on my occupational pension and would willingly pay more even though I don't live there.
I would like to be allowed to keep my vote though.

mozzybites · 27/06/2018 17:04

I am happy to report that none of the over 60's in my family, not even my unthinkingly Tory MIL voted leave.
I would fall into the okay paying more tax for services category but one of the things that made me determined to leave UK while Brexit was undertaken was a refusal to pay for the thing out of our taxes. Oddly I never expected a Brexit bonus!

Peregrina · 27/06/2018 17:05

Not all over 60s please. Not those who voted Remain. By all means round up under 60 year old Leavers for fruit picking, and car washing etc. This is what they voted for.

lonelyplanetmum · 27/06/2018 17:11

Every single day there's more news like this. Despite what Leavers say there aren't corresponding stories of incoming businesses and investment...

Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) is relocating senior executives to Paris as it shifts some investment banking operations out of the UK ahead of Brexit.

BAML is also expected to start moving staff to Dublin – which will serve as its post-Brexit EU hub – next month.

Around 125 UK staff working in control and support function roles including finance, risk, compliance, tech and operations as well as wholesale credit will be moved “predominantly” to Ireland from July 2018.

Meanwhile ... Germany goes down to its worst World Cup defeat since 1938.

Petty? Sure. Satisfying? Hell yes! Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 27/06/2018 17:38

Childish ? Yes

CardinalSin · 27/06/2018 17:40

Relevance to Brexit? Zero...

commonarewe · 27/06/2018 17:45

Plenty of relevance if her supporters decide that fucking up their country is one thing, but allowing their national team to be Mannschafted by South Korea is the final straw... Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 27/06/2018 17:47

Only Scotland cheers when England crash
Other teams don't care

mozzybites · 27/06/2018 17:50

I'd take England crashing out of a football tournament in lieu of the whole of the UK crashing out Europe. But as a Scot that isn't saying much!

54321go · 27/06/2018 17:55

At least the guys kicking the balls around can have another go next year.

mozzybites · 27/06/2018 17:59

Not all the Germans I know agree with their current leadership but all agree we have totally lost the plot, I will be happier when fellow Europeans don't feel the need to give me sympathetic looks when discussing my country.

TheElementsSong · 27/06/2018 18:10

Goodness, the last thread filled up suddenly!

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 27/06/2018 18:14

Well if we're stupid enough to believe the national football teams are any indication of how a country is doing then we'd best send Harry Kane over to do the negotiating. He's probably got more of a clue about brexit that half the government anyway.

commonarewe · 27/06/2018 18:33

Ok, ok, I get it - don't mention the VAR.

I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it. Wink

prettybird · 27/06/2018 18:38

Interesting choice of headline by the BBC Hmm

Bank’s red light warning for EU on lack of Brexit progress
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-44629271

Reading the article but admittedly not the BoE report itself it would appear that the UK, through the Withdrawal Bill, has put in place temporary arrangements for financial service but the nasty EU has not Hmm

I think to be fair on the BoE, it is simply highlighting this as a risk - but the BBC's reporting implies that it is the EU's "fault" and down to a lack of urgency on its part Hmm

Given that the UK still hasn't worked out WTF it wants to do and which sort of Brexit it wants and when it wants it, I'm not surprised that the EU hasn't put in place explicitly plans Confused

54321go · 27/06/2018 18:43

We want Brexit don't you know and we want it NOW. Get over it.

mozzybites · 27/06/2018 18:54

54321go You're not wrong, that is about the level of debate in some quarters!

Peregrina · 27/06/2018 18:55

No, we want to cherry pick the bits of the EU we want and not pay. But we have to call it Brexit to fool the plebs i.e. most of us, but not old Etonians like Johnson.

Peregrina · 27/06/2018 18:58

Why should the EU put in place temporary arrangements for financial services? We want out, we want to do business elsewhere! Grin

woman11017 · 27/06/2018 19:09

Female support for the 'brexit' is collapsing (thanks @mumsnet)

Westministers: Operation Over The Cliff
54321go · 27/06/2018 19:19

Since the port of Rotterdam and many other European companies are preparing I suspect the EU banking sector will have a plan up their sleeve but keeping it secret. IIRC it was Mr Junker who said recently there was over a Trillion Euros 'earmarked' to help EU companies with Brexit.

MrsRRR · 27/06/2018 19:22

I'm not surprised woman

How many male posters so you see worrying about how to feed their kids after brexit?

Or how to carry on getting access get lifesaving prescription meds?

Not bloody many!!

I would imagine there are a lot of women like me who think "ok. Whatever. Don't care what you do to me, but you don't mess with my kids"

lonelyplanetmum · 27/06/2018 19:30

And some more statistics on the Fuckbusiness exit....

35 per cent of companies plan to reduce UK investment post-Brexit.

41 per cent plan to move a large amount of capacity out of the UK

42 per cent plan to shift capacity to the euro zone.

safeguarded jobs in the UK have fallen 54 per cent in the past year

number of UK projects funded by Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) dropped nine per cent.
