Operation Offshore

AndSheSteppedOnTheBall · 26/06/2018 23:05

UKIP is nothing now - it served its purpose. The Tory party is now in the hands of the right wing extremists, and UKIP can be left to the nutters.

The Conservatives are now equivalent to the UKIP of old - every time the madness is ratcheted up, what previously seemed extreme now looks normal.

Look at George W Bush. He seems quaint by comparison to the current shit show, but at the time he was evil incarnate to those on the left.

No thanks etc.

When Pete North isn't a twat, he's worth reading. I think his 'that's why I support Leave' sounds a bit thin though. 'Here are all the reasons why the modern UK needs the single market. It's going to destroy the regions if we're not in it. But, I'll still support leave because I dare not admit I hadn't realised no-one was listening to me.'

If it's going to be this bad, will Westminster allow a Scottish independence vote?

Danniz · 26/06/2018 23:41

And when will the general public start to understand that it's going to be this bad? Will they be kept in the dark until after Brexit day?

Danniz · 26/06/2018 23:42

I also wonder what TM is getting out of this. And why the rebels backed down. Are large sums of money passing hands?

AndSheSteppedOnTheBall · 27/06/2018 00:03

Well large sums of money seem to have been spirited from Russia to all sorts of people, but I doubt that’s what’s going on here.

The rebels can’t risk May being ousted and a Brexit ultra becoming PM. With no opposition from Labour there’s not enough momentum (as it were) behind a parliamentary Remain bloc.

The government and the opposition are paralysed by their idiotic pledges based on the referendum. They fear the backlash whichever way brexit goes. The genie’s out of the bottle and no-one knows how to get it back in.

However, I think the march on Saturday showed something crucial - the wind seems to have gone out of the sails of the Brexiters. So few people showed up for the brexit side, so the feared riots etc never materialised. A huge number of people - surely a clear and unambiguous majority of the country - now support remain.

But will any of the MPs and their parties take up the Remain cause? It would require enormous political courage.

mozzybites · 27/06/2018 00:09

There are threads discussing with surprise that the cost of holidays has gone up, I think it won't be until reality is staring people in the face that they will see it. Although I just listened to a Harley Davidson employee say that it wasn't anything to do with Trump if he lost his job and Trump was a really businessman who knew what he was doing, so maybe they just won't see it ever.

mozzybites · 27/06/2018 00:35

On further reflection I am going for operation Icarus.

Danniz · 27/06/2018 00:45

I don't think it would require that much courage from Labour. They can quote all the promises, and then list what has so far happened in reality.
I believe that both TM and Corbyn are ideological Brexiters. They're both going for Brexit because they want to. I also suspect that there is money behind it. It usually comes down to money.

Danniz · 27/06/2018 00:46

Does anyone understand why the Rebels caved in? How can you see the reality and still cave in, unless you've been got at somehow?

mozzybites · 27/06/2018 00:51

I think the Tory rebels that caved decided to back party over country because they told themselves that they would bring the government down and let Corbyn in. What would the point of that be given he also wanted Brexit but a hard left one.

commonarewe · 27/06/2018 00:57

The Rebels are presumably still both Conservatives and patriots. They dare not push May so far that she gets replaced by a hardliner, or push the government so far that its collapse lets Mr. Collective Farm into power.
