Bit late and didn't realise the last thread was so close to the end... so this is a very quick OP

What do you think the secret continency plan name the government have in place for the No Deal?

Suggestions Please

Female support for the 'brexit' is collapsing (thanks @mumsnet)

That's not surprising.
Women are going to get screwed first.

There is a news report today about the 10 most dangerous countries in the world to be a woman.

The list is as follows:
The world's most dangerous countries for women

According to the survey:

  1. India
  2. Afghanistan
  3. Syria
  4. Somalia
  5. Saudi Arabia
  6. Pakistan
  7. Democratic Republic of Congo
  8. Yemen
  9. Nigeria
10. United States

Which gives pause for thought.

Especially with the devasting news that another Supreme Court Judge is retiring over there, so Trump gets to chose another judge to destroy the constitution with. He now will have an easy ride to overturn Wade v Roe. As well as a pile of other civil liberties and human rights.

Trump might also get that choice BEFORE the November Elections....

Fuck

RedToothBrush · 27/06/2018 19:58

America falls for at least a generation.

The Supreme Court is the key to Trump's dynasty as a family dictator.

Things are going to get torrid there.

Christ, the US keeps some rum company. Same as when you look at which countries have capital punishment.

For all the many wonderful, intelligent enlightened people there, it’s basically a violent theocracy with massive inequality. Their current political problems have been bubbling up for 40 years, ever since the Southern Strategy was first deployed.

MrsRRR · 27/06/2018 20:37

As do we....

annandale · 27/06/2018 20:41

I'm sorry I can't go for the USA as a theocracy. That's one thing it absolutely isn't. Especially coming from here where there actually is a state religion. Just because there is a racist dumb TV presenter with a symbiotic relationship with the media in the white house, the US hasn't lost everything that makes it unique. I think those 'ten reasons the US is shit' lists are usually based on a deliberate misreading of federal versus state laws.

France and Germany will block May's single market plan, says Spain (& so will Spain)

All her stupid bloody plans are just rephrasing the same old UK demand for unicorn cake.

From the start, the E27 has refused to allow frictionless trade - SM membership - without FOM & ECJ.

Any of the E27 can veto a deal
and there will never be unanimous agreement for UK to be privileged above even EU members.

May should do her U-turn asap, because even BINO needs planning
However, her Brexit activities are scheduled to fit the Tory party conference in early October, not to enable business to plan.

AndSheSteppedOnTheBall · 27/06/2018 20:47

In theory I know they have division of church and state and we don’t, but in practice it’s the other way around. There is absolutely no way a US president could be an atheist, or anything other than a practising Christian. And if our politicians banged on about god the way they do - god bless America - we would find it very weird and uncomfortable.

AndSheSteppedOnTheBall · 27/06/2018 20:48

Don’t forget Trump tried to justify detention of children because of “biblical law”. The fact they even thought that was a viable argument says it all.

Brexit, Dark Money & the DUP

BBC Spotlight - NI only - 11:15 pm

Feeling frightened here.

We have some savings in £. Does anyone have a moment to explain why it might be worth moving them into Euros?

DGRossetti · 27/06/2018 21:05

Reading the article but admittedly not the BoE report itself it would appear that the UK, through the Withdrawal Bill, has put in place temporary arrangements for financial service but the nasty EU has not

One of my drum banging points has always been that Westminster can legislate away all it likes. Only the UK is bound by it. Westminster can pass a law saying the EU must do exactly what the UK cabinet says if they like the idea of appearing even more ridiculous than they do at present

France bringing back "National Service"

Brexiteers wet dream for the UK ?

AndSheSteppedOnTheBall · 27/06/2018 21:16

Maybe France is being prepared.

woman11017 · 27/06/2018 21:21

@SamCoatesTimes
EXC - C4N’s Gary Gibbon reveals on his blog here of ministers being told that - after factoring Brussels summer holiday - there are now only “six weeks left” of negotiating with the EU before the October EU summit
..and cabinet still doesn’t have a settled position.

To go back to red's OP: Operation Armageddon?

Peter Hitchens once said that the national religion in england is the last wars.

We know what it is now.

He now will have an easy ride to overturn Wade v Roe. As well as a pile of other civil liberties and human rights
god help American women and the majority of Americans who did not vote for this.

National Service
James Patrick is scarier, and possibly a bit over the top, than we are. He's explained a few times why we need a functioning funded army and emergency services now. Thinks we'll need them sooner rather than later.

54321go · 27/06/2018 21:25

@colouring
The usual 'safe' bet for currency used to be the US Dollar but with Mr Trump in office I am not sure that is still the case.
The Euro MIGHT be a better bet as it is more likely to be stable I THINK.
You MUST do some proper research, maybe even moneysavingexpert.com. If you do go for converting again there are better and worse ways of doing this.

colouringinagain · 27/06/2018 21:31

Thanks

54321go · 27/06/2018 21:32

The French National Service is very watered down compared to many. Only 1 month compulsory with another 3 months optional. It is for girls and boys.
It seems like a fair 'plan' to me as part of it's aim is to instill a bit of community and cultural sense which is noticeably greater in France.

54321go · 27/06/2018 21:33

National service in N Korea is 11 years for men and 7 for women.

AndSheSteppedOnTheBall · 27/06/2018 21:35

France’s idea seems nice to me. At school we all had to do either cadet force, D of E or volunteering in the community on a Tuesday afternoon. It was great - would be good on a national scale I think.

commonarewe · 27/06/2018 21:36

Brexiteers wet dream for the UK ?

Except it's happening in, er, France. If it were happening in the UK, you'd call it the new Hitler Youth or some other rubbish, but since Macron's doing it, it's totally unproblematic.

AndSheSteppedOnTheBall · 27/06/2018 21:39

Re: James Patrick. Yes, he is very pessimistic, and his tweets and blogs make my blood run cold.

I think he is a bit over the top, and always very quick to say “I told you so” about things he predicted. He is a bit of a Nostradamus though, in that his “predictions” are somewhat vague, and can be retrospectively declared as accurate because they don’t really commit to a position.

I say all the above because I desperately want him to be wrong about how bad things are going to get.

AndSheSteppedOnTheBall · 27/06/2018 21:40

common except that I literally said the exact opposite in the post above yours.

I think Macron’s idea would be very good here.

So ner.

prettybird · 27/06/2018 21:42

DGR - I was being sarcastic, especially given the tenor of the BBC report, which was pseudo-outrage that the UK has legislated for contingency plans, yet the EU has not Confused

Why should it? If the UK wants to smooth a transition, then it should fucking work on the Withdrawal Agreement. It shouldn't still be arguing within Cabinet about which of the two unacceptable to the EU unworkable options it is going to support Confused

What a fucking waste of effort and time Angry
