This may be the last Brexit Arms thread that I will host.

It was intended to be a non-partisan and relatively light hearted thread for posters on both sides of the divide, but unfortunately this seems to have proved impossible so far.

It is not supposed to be a place for the disgruntled Remainer to use as an outlet to abuse and kick out at their perceived enemy.

I will give it one last go in the hope that things will change.

So.... onwards to Brexit....

'Why do you keep posting without making any actual points ?'

Talkin are you the official Actual Points Police? Halo Smile

Inkanta · 02/03/2018 18:26

Anyway cheers Wine it's Friday night!

TalkinPeace · 02/03/2018 18:28

inkanta
Yeah, pretty much
but actually I'm more a fan of Evidence Based Decision Making
as it leads to better policies

I have tried to give facts and evidence and checkable links when asked.
It is too much to expect reciprocal courtesy ?

bearbehind · 02/03/2018 18:33

talk it’s pointless asking for answers today.

TM has shattered their dreams with today’s speech but they’ll never ever admit that until it’s too late.

In the mean time it’ll just revert to emojis and general silliness

It’s all part of the denial process.

I’m just waiting for mummys reaction to TM ruling out WTO.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 02/03/2018 18:54

Are you scared that if you open your ears you might start to sound intelligent

Perfectly happy with my intelligence levels, ta - and I've never felt the need to seek validation from the patronising bores on MN.

howabout · 02/03/2018 18:57

Cheers Ikanta Wine

Torsten Bell

"So basically @theresa_may saying she'll do as soft a Brexit as she can outside single market and customs union - but will leave a future Prime Minister free to go all hard brexit if they fancy it"

Pretty much how I interpreted the speech and regaining sovereignty.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 02/03/2018 19:04

That's what I took from it howabout.

TalkinPeace · 02/03/2018 19:05

@howabout
Read the other half of his tweet ... shared standards for ever

FaithHope
Do you work for the WTO?
Just that its the only way I can resolve you being happy with them deciding stuff
when you are unhappy with the EU

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 02/03/2018 19:15

Will the WTO require ever more political integration between its member countries?

Do the WTO require free movement of people between all member countries?

Does the WTO demand billions of £ a year to fund vanity projects?

Will the WTO require ever more political integration between its member countries?
Does the ECJ?

Do the WTO require free movement of people between all member countries?
Does the ECJ?

Does the WTO demand billions of £ a year to fund vanity projects?
Does the ECJ?

My question - which remains totally unanswered is
what is the problem with the ECJ?
as it and the EU are not the same thing

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/03/2018 19:24

Regaining sovereignty?

Are we still buying this bs? It was never lost it just felt that way apparently.

Brexit proves you could wrap bullshit up in a bow and someone would happily buy it.

Doubletrouble99 · 02/03/2018 19:32

I have already told you my reasons Talkin - I don't want the ECJ to have jurisdiction over us went we are not in the EU. Why should they?
It's about gaining back some of our sovereignty.

Doubletrouble99 · 02/03/2018 19:33

Sorry about the random train post should have been on another thread!

bearbehind · 02/03/2018 19:39

I don't want the ECJ to have jurisdiction over us went we are not in the EU

Well that's a bit a of shame then isn't it given TM conceded today the ECJis still going to have jurisdiction over us Hmm

user1471450935 · 02/03/2018 19:39

Ecj
Teresa May admitted we will still be effected by ECJ in her speech did no one else here it.
She said, paraphrasing.
All FTA agreed with outside partners and the EU have to me passed by ECJ, to proof the meet EU rules
Also if we stay in EU agencies or associate members we are ruled directly/indirectly by ECJ. Also said where we choose to keep EU regs/rules after leaving or have same law or very similar, although the supreme court will have final say, they and.the government will have to make sure we keep up to date with their judgements
So sorry we will be under ECJ rules directly or indirectly.
She seemed to be saving we want to stay in Ukfta with EU, but still have right to do our own FTA with rest of world
Believe that is the EFTA anyway.
Or am I missing something

SusanWalker · 02/03/2018 19:39

Can I just say I live in an area which has had a lot of EU money for regeneration and they were not vanity projects. This article lists the biggest ones. There are so many helping to support people to set up business so Cornwall can help itself.

www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/eu-funding-cornwall-brexit-cash-746128.amp

The government has already said it will not be replacing lost EU money to Cornwall.

bearbehind · 02/03/2018 19:42

Blimey user, we crossed posts saying the same thing! Grin

SusanWalker · 02/03/2018 19:44

The ECJ is not something that is done to us. We are part of it. It upholds the laws we helped write. We should be pleased we are part of an organisation that has an independent representative body to ensure all member states play fairly.

I notice that the EU are taking a strong position on Trump's decision to impose tariffs on steel. So that's the EU helping to defend our steel industry.

user1471450935 · 02/03/2018 19:47

Sorry crosss post with bear.
Did any one notice on BBC 6 o'clock coverage, the language and tone had changed. It was all about hard choices, pertnerships with EU continuing where it works best. We developed SM rules so should stay as closely aligned as possible, but we want right to do our own deals
Alao apart from David Davis who back tracked, others asked where Greg Clark and Philip Hammond, both who wanted to keep close ties. No JRM or Priti Patel or Chris Grayling. Are they softening UK for the very soft brexit business wants.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 02/03/2018 19:51

My question - which remains totally unanswered is
what is the problem with the ECJ?
as it and the EU are not the same thing

I know they're not the same thing, I didn't say they were. Confused

You, however, appear to be confused.

You asked me:

FaithHope
Do you work for the WTO?
Just that its the only way I can resolve you being happy with them deciding stuff
when you are unhappy with the EU

Your question was regarding WTO vs EU, not ECJ vs WTO.

bearbehind · 02/03/2018 19:52

Did any one notice on BBC 6 o'clock coverage, the language and tone had changed. It was all about hard choices, pertnerships with EU continuing where it works best

user I'm actually seriously impressed with you today.

You've actually listened to what was said.

Unlike the other Leave cult members who continue to operate under the illusion it's all rosy.

user1471450935 · 02/03/2018 19:52

Sorry bear, scary.
Am i happy with UKFTASmile
As I did try hard to understand it, with Agnes and Talkin's help.
Although sometimes think today would have been easier earlier in week as I wouldn't have notice all the contriditions and aometimes hypoctrical comments.Grin

Doubletrouble99 · 02/03/2018 19:56

If you notice, earlier I stated that the ECJ would still have jurisdiction over organizations we will stay members of, I know that but there is no reason why we should still be part of the ECJ and May did not say that we will still be when we leave at all.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 02/03/2018 19:56

Can I just say I live in an area which has had a lot of EU money for regeneration and they were not vanity projects.

I consider things like schlepping from Brussels to Strasbourg every month & the 'EU museum' to be vanity projects.
