This may be the last Brexit Arms thread that I will host.

It was intended to be a non-partisan and relatively light hearted thread for posters on both sides of the divide, but unfortunately this seems to have proved impossible so far.

It is not supposed to be a place for the disgruntled Remainer to use as an outlet to abuse and kick out at their perceived enemy.

I will give it one last go in the hope that things will change.

So.... onwards to Brexit....

Perhaps a better time for that would have been March last year ?

Perhaps, but feelings were running high on both sides within UK, and also in the EU.

It was also massively negatively impacted by Cameron being a self-serving coward & quitting immediately.

The dust has settled somewhat now, the EU has accepted that we're leaving, and so have most of Parliament.

This now marks the beginning really, and

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 02/03/2018 17:21

Pressed post by accident whilst wiping my screen...!!

this marks the beginning now, and it was a good, balanced analysis I thought - with a clear proposal.

TalkinPeace · 02/03/2018 17:23

@DoubleTrouble
Please do me the courtesy of answering the question
What is your problem with the ECJ?
What do you not like about it?
Why is it so important to try to leave its jurisdiction ?

DGRossetti · 02/03/2018 17:30

It was also massively negatively impacted by Cameron being a self-serving coward & quitting immediately.

Something I am happy to agree with you on. You forgot the bit about lying though - he said he would see it through.

The fact he scuttled so quickly should have alerted people to the shitstorm ahead.

Postsynapticdensity · 02/03/2018 17:37

@talkinPeace

My fear is that DoubleTrouble has no idea what the ECJ is or what its competences are but has read in the telegraph or the daily mail that "it imposes its rules" on "us" and drunk with dreams of sovereign freedom she finds its existence intolerable.

Very much doubt she is going to have an answer.

DGRossetti · 02/03/2018 17:40

You are too kind. I know that's the case - hence the lack of (reasoned) reply.

If you do get a reply, watch out for something (I paraphrase) along the lines of "why should criminals have human rights ?". Which is another moron-trap ...

Doubletrouble99 · 02/03/2018 17:41

Fundamentally I do not believe we should be under the jurisdiction of any court where we have no say on it's rulings and no judges involved. I do not want such things like the Scottish government deciding to have a minimum price for alcohol interfered with by an outside court.

Doubletrouble99 · 02/03/2018 17:43

Post - I really don't think we need your patronizing suggestions that I don't know what the ECJ does. I actually have a life outside of mumsnet so am not racing to answer each and every question so I really suggest you calm down.

Doubletrouble99 · 02/03/2018 17:45

Rossetti - Moron trap!!!

Postsynapticdensity · 02/03/2018 17:47

If she replies using that moron trap it or anything on that moronic level the obvious answer from me would be QED.

I obviously know she doesn't understand the bare basics of international trade or european legislation either which is why I find it so painful.

It's PAINFUL

TalkinPeace · 02/03/2018 17:48

@doubletrouble99

how do you mean "no judges involved"
and which rulings are you unhappy with ?

And you are happy with the WTO arbitrating on Trade disputes after Brexit?

TalkinPeace · 02/03/2018 17:50

PS I also have a life outside MN, but that did not stop me taking the time to help User147 to understand the issues that he asked questions about

DGRossetti · 02/03/2018 17:52

As a member of the EU, the UK has a judge on the ECJ.

And of course the UK is party to making EU law.

DGRossetti · 02/03/2018 17:53

Rossetti - Moron trap!!!

Well avoided ....

True dat Double.

At some point it will sink in.

TalkinPeace · 02/03/2018 18:00

Faithhope
At some point it will sink in.
What will ?
That you and Double are quoting unicorn dust rather than basing your posts on anything factual ?
Are you scared that if you open your ears you might start to sound intelligent like User147 is starting to Grin

Postsynapticdensity · 02/03/2018 18:05

"At some point it will sink in"

That's my hope too, but I know facts don't change deeply held (erroneous/prejudiced/uneducated) beliefs. There are like studies and stuff that show it.

But I am happy to soldier on and explain it to you if you are interested, just ask.

Doubletrouble99 · 02/03/2018 18:07

Obviously we have to have courts that arbitrate between countries to do with trade.

Rossetti - e are not going to be in the EU so won't have any representation on the ECJ and thus should not have to abide by their rulings when no longer in the EU.

Doubletrouble99 · 02/03/2018 18:08

Post - we don't need your patronising twaddle - when will that sink in?

AgnesSkinner · 02/03/2018 18:09

I do not want such things like the Scottish government deciding to have a minimum price for alcohol interfered with by an outside court.

The ECJ gave the ultimate decision to the Scottish courts though?

TalkinPeace · 02/03/2018 18:13

DoubleTRouble
Obviously we have to have courts that arbitrate between countries to do with trade.
But the WTO does not use courts, it uses arbitrators who are appointed by Trump and Xi and who report only to the WTO

and the ECJ ruled in favour of Scotland in the end .....
what cases have impacted on your life ?

bearbehind · 02/03/2018 18:13

faith, double TM was explicit today as she’s capable of being that Brexit is going to be a complete clusterfuck where we only leave in name yet you are still saying it’s fine.

When are you going to wake up to the fact you are not going to get what you want- unless you actually wanted to continue to pay the EU, abide by its rules and have no say in them.

Doubletrouble99 · 02/03/2018 18:14

I once tried to get off a train only to discover my carriage hadn't stopped at the platform and there was no platform to get off at!

Had to make a mad dash through a full carriage with all my luggage to find the platform!

Inkanta · 02/03/2018 18:15

"But I am happy to soldier on and explain it to you if you are interested, just ask."

Grin Who are you Mrs Patronising!

TalkinPeace · 02/03/2018 18:18

Double
Why do you keep posting without making any actual points ?
