Good morning Smile

Voting to leave the European Union was a monumental decision, and one that will change the direction of our Country for decades to come.
I see that as an exciting opportunity & something to be welcomed & celebrated.

So, if you see solutions instead of problems, if you see a better future for the citizens of U.K., free from the constraints of an organisation we had no control over, then this place is for you.
Of course not everything is going to run smoothly, maybe not for years, because leaving a union drowning in red tape was never going to be easy, but we are forward thinking progressive people who know the future doesn’t just mean next week.
So, here’s to our new future,
To the future of the U.K. Wine
The countdown begins.........

Funny how the Brexiteer side of things seems so under represented since the trollbots moved on to other things.

Corcory · 12/02/2018 16:49

Well Surferjet, I was so happy to see you had decided to open the Leavers Lagoon as the Pub had been completely high jacked!

There was an interesting interview with Richard Tice on Sky news by Andrew Boulton this morning. I do like Richard Tice's no nonsense approach and have decided to look at Leave means Leave to hear more about their ideas.
I also liked the idea on The Sunday Politics where a Conservative MEP interviewed a Labour MP for 5 mins. and vis versa. Hope they do it regularly.

Teetotal2018 · 12/02/2018 17:23

Gosh these arguments are all so boring. It’s the same bloody rhetoric from both sides all the time. If one more person mentions that bloody NHS funding bus bollocks I swear! I voted remain but even I remember it was debunked the day after so literally no one voted based on that lie because we all knew it was rubbish long before the vote! There are far too many shit brained people about who spout the same arguments repeatedly. Yes Brexit wasn’t what I wanted, yes I think it’s going to be a shitshow, but come on there’s nothing bad in trying to look at the positives and potential for our country. It’s such an increadably complex issue, it drives me mad that people are so bloody black and white about this.

DGRossetti · 12/02/2018 17:26

but come on there’s nothing bad in trying to look at the positives and potential for our country.

I totally agree.

And they are ?

Bearbehind · 12/02/2018 17:29

teetotal loving the 'shit brained' insult Hmm

Have you seen any positives posted on here?

I mean actual benefits of Brexits as opposed to 'the sun is shining'.

It's not so much black and white as Leavers arguing that black is white because they want it to be.

I'd love to read about and discuss all the positives and potential for our country as a result of Brexit.

Teetotal2018 · 12/02/2018 17:35

Bearbehind oh I agree, both sides irritate me. I want to hear something new please! Why do people have such polarised views? It will not get us anywhere.

Bearbehind · 12/02/2018 17:37

I agree teetotal but it's impossible to have a decent discussion round here because Leavers simply refuse to acknowledge the issues that need to be resolved even exist.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 12/02/2018 17:46

Me too!

What issues are you talking about?

OP posts:
Teetotal2018 · 12/02/2018 17:47

DGRossetti Well as a remainer that’s a tough one for me to answer (part of the reason I’m on this thread), but I know that the EU is undemocratic and a haven for the rich elite who use EU tax loopholes.

I think there will be a benefit in relation to European companies who do not support trade unions, we will be able to discriminate against them (I’m a trade unionist). I think workers rights will improve outside the EU.

We have a real issue with modern slavery in this country. EU workers are exploited here In many instances.

I think there will be a benefit to animal rights which I do care about. The EU doesn’t seem to care about animals being driven for hundreds of miles before slaughter with no food or water.

There will be free trade outside the EU which of course would be brilliant if it all worked out although this isn’t something we can be sure of.

The European court of law is a pointless layer on top of our law system. I’ll be glad to see that go.

There is no certainty that there will be good or bad outcomes with Brexit but then again there would have been no certainty of this if we had remained.

time4chocolate · 12/02/2018 17:47

Thanks Surfer for the thread Wine Flowers

What a lot of negative Nancy’s (and Nigel’s).

Was going to post a positive article that I read today but apparently I have used up my allowance!! Is it a conspiracy? Wink

Bearbehind · 12/02/2018 17:52

What issues are you talking about?

I'm going to take that one at face value rather than my first thought which was that you were being obtuse surfer

Let's start with what I see as the biggest issue right now:-

How leaving SM/CU can be reconciled with no hard border in NI?

Corcory · 12/02/2018 18:06

Dame Helena Morrissey is another person I find extremely interesting and very positive about Brexit. She has 30 years experience of working in the City and is being very positive about to City's prospects after Brexit.
She says that being a member of the EU is not a major reason the City is number one in the world of finance. We were top long before we joined the EU and we will be top after we leave.

DGRossetti · 12/02/2018 18:20

DGRossetti Well as a remainer that’s a tough one for me to answer (part of the reason I’m on this thread), but I know that the EU is undemocratic and a haven for the rich elite who use EU tax loopholes.

Undemocratic ? In what way ? Did you not vote for your MEP ?

As for tax loopholes, are you not aware of the swinging anti-tax avoidance measures the EU is bringing in (that some in the UK are desperate to avoid) ?

Anyway, I asked for the postives of Brexit. Not the negatives of remain. I've already conceded the EU was not a perfect institution. So someone needs to sell Leaving to me as being a better state of affairs.

I'm still waiting.

surferjet · 12/02/2018 18:22

How leaving SM/CU can be reconciled with no hard border in NI?

Why would you expect me to have the answer to this? Who do you think I am?
No one knows for sure what will happen regarding NI, but I imagine some sort of special deal will be drawn up to keep the peace.

What other issues aren’t we addressing to your satisfaction?
