faith, the cabinet apparently agreed a '3 basket' approach which was immediately rejected as a possibility by the EU.

This is why this whole process is such a mess; TM can only manage to scrape together a consensus within her own party on something that isn't even possible in practice anyway.

DGRossetti · 26/02/2018 10:35

How does "democracy" work when one person wants a vegetarian meal, and one person wants a nice steak ?

One is going to be disappointed.

(Democracy is a lamb and two lions voting on dinner)

It would be arguable that in such instances, any result is not democratic. It may be fair, it may be representative. But it's functionally useless for moving forwards with.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 10:36

Well of course it was immediately rejected - that's their job - to push for what they want in an ideal world.

The individual member states however are already starting to diverge from the hitherto united stance & are pushing for what's best for them.

The outcome will be a compromise on both sides - there is no reason that a mutually beneficial agreement cannot be reached.

mummmy2017 · 26/02/2018 10:38

Yes, but as a Leaver I want out of SM and CU.

JC has changed so many things ever his own stance, so your willing to put up with anything, and deal just to stay in. your BINO

Ifailed · 26/02/2018 10:40

the cabinet had reached consensus on this, and that we are to hear the plan in TM's speech on Friday

Presumably we have to wait 'til Friday, whilst this plan has to be approved by the DUP, Ress-Mogg, the owners of the Daily Mail, Express, Sun & Telegraph, the 'Leader’s Group’ of big Tory party donors and of course, Farage.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 10:41

The outcome will be a compromise on both sides

But Leavers don't seem to be prepared to compromise on anything.

What would you be happy to compromise on faith?

Continuing to pay into the EU budget to ensure frictionless trade?

Continuing to abide by EU rules for the same reason?

Allowing FOM to continue?

I agree there has to be an element of compromise but Leavers don't seem to understand the concept that that means something other than having their cake and eating it.

We are going to end up with a worse deal than we have now as anything else would destroy the integrity of the EU and that simply isn't going to happen.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 10:42

so your willing to put up with anything, and deal just to stay in. your BINO

Pretty much anything, yes.

It's much better than the alternative.

mummmy2017 · 26/02/2018 10:51

We are going to end up with a worse deal than we have now as anything else would destroy the integrity of the EU and that simply isn't going to happen.

The last bit of your statement is how I feel about al this, I think what with Germany and France being the leaders, and everyone else playing OMG no we don't want what you want, the EU simply can't and won't be able to sort anything, and if this happens, and it's more likely than you think, we are still looking at a no deal.
I have read so much in the last 10 years on political issues' sorry not all the small details you so like to quote, and each time I wish I had put money down on the result as it has worked out just like I suspected.
I just can't see how there can be any compromise on either side, to even allow for your desired result Bear.

DGRossetti · 26/02/2018 11:03

The individual member states however are already starting to diverge from the hitherto united stance & are pushing for what's best for them.

Hmm

Cite ? (not Anglophone). Or is this putting your own interpretation on events ?

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 11:04

So the reality is Leavers aren't willing to compromise, they really don't see a reason why we can't cherry pick.

I expect you're all going to be sadly disappointed.

DGRossetti · 26/02/2018 11:06

I think what with Germany and France being the leaders,

Generally the EU trusts a Franco-German alliance to look after the EU. That means smaller countries tend to (but not uncritically, nor supinely) look up to them. Fuck it, if my country could be as successful as Germany, why wouldn't I look to it ?

Just because Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland can't trust Westminster to look after them ....

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 11:11

S'ok all - Jezsus (the people's messiah) has sorted it!

He's totes going to get a brand new customs deal with the EU that allows us to make our own trade deals & has controls on immigration.

He's fucking ace!

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 11:13

Cite ? (not Anglophone). Or is this putting your own interpretation on events ?

I'm too busy (and can't be arsed) to google it for you.

There has been various things from political reporters over the last few weeks about a shift in position amongst some of the member states.

mummmy2017 · 26/02/2018 11:14

Bear your not willing to compromise either, you just can;#t see it

LondonMum8 · 26/02/2018 11:18

"It would be arguable that in such instances, any result is not democratic."

Exactly, which is why modern democracies (sorry, that's not us) tend to require a supermajority (be it parliamentary or w.r.t. to a referendum) for major "constitutional"

decisions such as this.

DGRossetti · 26/02/2018 11:18

I'm too busy (and can't be arsed) to google it for you.

You mean you tried to google, and discovered that looking for "Brexit" in any language other than (UK) English doesn't really bring up too much discussion.

There has been various things from political reporters over the last few weeks about a shift in position amongst some of the member states.

Again Hmm

Not the papers I read.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 11:20

Bear your not willing to compromise either, you just can;#t see it

That just shows how childish and simplistic your views are mummmy, in lieu of reasoned argument you attempt to twist it around.

As you keep saying, reamainers have already lost; anything we end up with is a compromise of sorts.

You personally might not be willing to compromise, which is why I think you're going to be disappointed; you're beloved No Deal isn't going to happen and we will have to compromise in order to reach a deal.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 11:22

^^ your beloved

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 11:26

Why the humphy faces?!

It's true - I really can't be arsed to google for you - you are really not important to me!

Do it yourself.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 11:29

Any thoughts on Jezza's 'mega clear' direction for brexit?!

So much for all the furore re 'he's going to say that Labour will stay in the customs union'.

A 'new' customs union with:
No tariffs
No free movement
Able to negotiate separate free trade deals.

Simples!!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/02/2018 11:30

Brexiteers aren't big on citation. Or fact. Or logic.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 11:34

faith why so sarcastic about JC?

He's just saying we should be part of 'a' or 'the' CU, unlike TM who has explicitly said that won't happen, despite having absolutely no idea how it is compatible with no hard border in NI.

Anyway, any update on the compromises you'd be willing to accept?'

DGRossetti · 26/02/2018 11:35

Found this ...

www.msn.com/fr-fr/lifestyle/voyage/ces-clich%C3%A9s-que-vous-avez-d%C3%A9j%C3%A0-entendu-au-moins-une-fois/ss-BBJzud0?li=BBoJIji#image=2

Not sure why that popped up in google.fr for "Brexit" ?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/02/2018 11:35

faith why so sarcastic about JC?

Desperate stuff isn't it?

mummmy2017 · 26/02/2018 11:36

No that;s not true Bear, I just think what ever happens won't be as you think, we are coming out of the SM and the CU,

The need for us to be able to make Trade deals will be the sticking point.
