There's really no need for another thread.

There's this and the Westminsters threads that keep going. Another thread would only attract the same crowds to each.

If I thought a new thread would miraculously enable engaging and constructive discussion I'd start it now!

As I said Faith if you have questions about the working or the EU or the constitutional implications I will try to respond.

What area do you specialise in?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 19/01/2018 22:19

Lol - you called it on the inaugural post Bear - respect ✊

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 19/01/2018 22:20

What area do you specialise in?

So you issues relating to Brexit are?

londonista · 19/01/2018 22:21

I'm feeling quite down tonight. My main client just announced they're moving their whole operation to Amsterdam. Feeling genuinely worried for the first time, and we've not even left yet. πŸ˜”

Moussemoose · 19/01/2018 22:23

Londonista that's bad news. Is it a direct result of Brexit do you think or would they have moved anyway?

CardinalSin · 19/01/2018 22:24

Ah, that explains why Faith is trying so hard to wind people up!

Shame that people are only looking for answers, so her meaningless interventions to say that people are being horrible don't bother anyone!

time4chocolate · 19/01/2018 22:25

I thought my last post was engaging and constructiveWinkBlush

londonista · 19/01/2018 22:26

I don't know. My main contact was made redundant this week, and I couldn't see anything in press about it. I'm supposed to be going to Amsterdam next month to meet a new person, the Dutch replacement to my contact, so I guess I will find out more. I know they've been hit hard by currency as they buy resources from outside the UK.

JWIM · 19/01/2018 22:26

My view is that the difficulties in clarifying the terms of trading relationships etc will result in the transition/implementation period being extended. There will be other reasons too for an extension.

I can't see that being part of the EU has hampered our ability to trade with the EU and the wider world. Happy to be corrected on this.

I do see that if we do leave the single market that might spur UK businesses to find new overseas markets - out of necessity - through a more challenging domestic economy. Whether that would be sufficient to replace the lost trade or more costly trade terms (tariff and non-tariff) I doubt. Alternatively we might 'trade' more by being much more relaxed about 'trading standards'.

I would appreciate a Leaver perspective on whether they see the EU as having limited our trading around the world and if so why.

Bearbehind · 19/01/2018 22:28

I thought my last post was engaging and constructive

To be fair it was time! Grin

londonista · 19/01/2018 22:29

My fear is that a lot of companies have been holding on holding on, and actually now they are making moves to safeguard their futures.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 19/01/2018 22:29

Ah, that explains why Faith is trying so hard to wind people up!

I'm not trying to wind anyone up Confused

Moussemoose · 19/01/2018 22:31

JWIM "relaxed trading standards" makes me go cold. We are positioning ourselves as a sweat shop. Good grief.

Londonista I can't contribute much but I hope something works outConfused

mummmy2017 · 19/01/2018 22:31

Had to go to work, you know the thing that pays my bills.

So why is my name being taken in vain now?

Have you seen the Dutch are now worried at how much something that can't happen could cost them?

Sits on fluffy cloud to drink the wine I poured at the end of the last thread.

Why did i vote to leave. Because in my heart I knew this could be my only chance to change things. Sorry this was very much a heart ruling, a kind of cross the box and hope to god it works.

Bearbehind · 19/01/2018 22:33

My fear is that a lot of companies have been holding on holding on, and actually now they are making moves to safeguard their futures.

I agree londonista Brexit day is little more than 12 months away and that's no time.

My work diary is pretty much planned for the whole of this year.

Businesses can't delay decisions whilst the fools that are in charge of delivering this clusterfuck spend yet more time blustering and posturing.

londonista · 19/01/2018 22:34

Thanks Mousse.
I wonder if we will look back on this in 25 years time and think it was worth it?
Anyway I'm not in a great frame of mind tonight so I best be off. Night all.

Bearbehind · 19/01/2018 22:36

So why is my name being taken in vain now?

Don't flatter yourself mummmy

I simply highlighted the fact you chose to completely ignore the fact even you said we need a deal on financial services but couldn't explain how that is compatible with no deal.

mummmy2017 · 19/01/2018 22:37

Sleep Well Londonista. Hope your not coming down with the flue, had it for 3 weeks and it's not nice,

Moussemoose · 19/01/2018 22:38

And in the gap between the 'deal' 'no deal' scenario, while theoreticals are discussed people loose their jobs.

This is about jobs and lives and mortgages not the colour of your passport or who called you a name.

mummmy2017 · 19/01/2018 22:56

It's not is it bear.
But there is so much too lose on both sides.
If we get no deal then it will be a whole new ball game. I think it's the futures or something held by London that become useless and cost EU buisness a lot of money, as their banks will have to write them off, or be the ones to stand guarantor, on the day we leave that may be the first problem for the EU to solve.
Then as we have been the traditional base for insurance, that will need to be replicated, but without all the knowledge held by London this is going to cause problems for the EU, and the vast amounts of reserves need to underwrite this, will incur larger cost to the EU making for a rise in the cost, and therefore a rise passed onto the end user.
London also deals with loans and underwriting debts, again a massive cost the EU is going to have to take on the day after we leave.
London while it will lose the EU business, will still have the other countries outside the EU.

So in order to service these things, the EU will have to poach at great cost talent from London not necessary Uk personnel, thus again increasing the cost of these services making them in some instance simply to expensive to be viable to Non-EU counties..

Bearbehind · 19/01/2018 23:05

mummmy that's why we'll never actually leave.

Cutting off dead at any point doesnt work for either side.

The transition period will be indefinitely extended.

We'll never just walk away.
