The big developments are that the government have signalled they are prepared to pay more and to involve the ECJ when it comes to citizens rights on condition that we move to talk of trade. But no apparent progress on NI. Which is significant with Ireland threatening to veto.

The EU has not changed its stance at all. Since Day 1.

There is always a worrying omission and lack of commitment to retain the Charter of Fundamental Rights. The bonfire begins.

Talk is of Green still going in a reshuffle, possibly with Gove replacing him as Deputy PM.

Coalition talks in Germany have broken down, and the British have got excited about it, whilst the German response have largely been a slight shrug.

Its been a much quieter week, despite the budget. Thank goodness. There are lots of outstanding issues that are lurking in the background like the Green one though.

The main message coming from the budget, has not been any new policy, but the dreadful economic forecast for the next few years.

Thanks big, will be borrowing that too!

I’ve got to 380 peregrina. I kept getting stuck at Theresa May being elected but then realised if you gather momentum before the referendum vote day, you can just sail past all the bumps.

woman11017 · 29/11/2017 20:41

Economy first ?
And peace, and civility and trying to heal? Who can blame them?

howabout · 29/11/2017 20:47

Bigchoc who compiled the HoC library estimates? I ask because the EIB number is glaringly inaccurate. The UK share cap may be 3bnish but the euity share is 11bn plus. Assume other numbers also equally flaky?

woman11017 · 29/11/2017 20:49

May is in a bit of a pickle now? Tory brexiteers going bananas, bananas ukip brexiteers going bananas, tory remainers faking going bananas.
And supposedly all for bananas.

woman11017 · 29/11/2017 21:31

A national newspaper website journalist decided not to attend Press Gazette’s Grenfell Tower debate last night after being told by their editor “nobody’s reading our Grenfell stuff any more

The story was related by a friend of the journalist concerned, who said the editor had told him: “After two weeks the hits they were getting fell so much that they could no longer afford to send reporters to cover it any more

Peregrina · 29/11/2017 22:15

Are they straight or are they bendy bananas? One thing is for sure, we are acting like a banana republic.

Holliewantstobehot · 29/11/2017 22:23

I don't understand the psychology of someone who has been buying curved/bendy bananas for the past however many years voting leave so they can buy bendy bananas. I mean I can't remember the last time I bought a straight banana. Although I do buy little ones which tend to be more bendy.

I think there could be many interesting psychological studies to be done on brexit in the years to come.

OliviaD68 · 29/11/2017 22:24

Well @Peregrina shall we start a campaign for bendy bananas and against the UN's horribly discriminatory Codex Alimentarius?

Maybe this banana republic will straighten itself out then?

Has this been linked? What Military Incompetence can teach us about Brexit.

AgnesSkinner · 29/11/2017 22:53

I managed to drive the bus through to the end - apparently I’m strong and stable and would I like a job in politics?

It was quite satisfying bumping over TM and the Trumpster.

BigChocFrenzy · 29/11/2017 22:54

howabout I've no idea who compiles the HoC library info, but I'd expect it to be civil servants collating information
If part of their estimate is wrong, that is alarming - and one wonders if this happens when they are estimating other large projects, non-Brexit
However, tbh, I ca't say without extensive checking whether your figure or theirs is correct !

BigChocFrenzy · 29/11/2017 22:57

There may be some creative accounting for some devious purpose

BigChocFrenzy · 29/11/2017 23:05

I wonder if DD & co are reading articles like this:

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/nov/29/brexit-uk-white-flag-eu-divorce-bill

When the time came to hoist the white flag, the cabinet’s swashbuckling Brexiters were nowhere to be seen.

Instead, it was left to civil servants to hammer out the terms of Britain’s expensive retreat from the EU,
settling a divorce bill that could pave the way for a wider exit agreement struck almost entirely on terms demanded by Brussels.

< If they're not ashamed they should be: they've wasted so much time before accepting the inevitable >

BigChocFrenzy · 29/11/2017 23:15

Optimism for NI border issue ?

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/nov/29/brexit-negotiators-believe-end-irish-border-impasse-near

“There is a lot of solidarity for Ireland here, but everyone is worried about the issue,” said one diplomat.
“If there is no border we might as well do away with the internal market.
The UK is already the biggest source of counterfeit goodss*.

“It brought ‘mad cow disease’, it is not like they have a glorious past to lean on.
Everyone is very worried about this for very good reasons.”

Donnie just tweeted this:

@Theresa_May, don’t focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!

Donnie is having a Twitter spat with the PM.

And she's too weak to respond appropriately.

Yes this is real. Yes this is to stir shit up in the UK. Yes this is what May said she was wise against in terms of foreign intervention in our democracy.

This is a test. Are you loyal to us or not.

May will bend over and allow us to be screwed.

So much for our standing in the world. We have fallen this far.

How is this looking now Andrew? This tweet from middle of yesterday has aged well.

I hope you splutter on your morning covfefe when you wake up and see the news.

Looking forward to your disbelief and condemnation rather more excuse. I suspect I will be left waiting.

You and Piers really must be 'shocked' that a racist tweets racist stuff.

(Notes Nige's silence).

This is classic:

Andrew Lilico @ andrewlilico
It's obviously terrible for Trump to RT Britain First videos, but let he amongst us who has never RTed or Like-ed something without checking properly who had tweeted it cast the first stone. (I know it won't be me. I once accidentally RTed Alex Jones.)

Has Trump still not un-RTed them, though? Why not? Surely someone must by now have explained to him who that is?

It's probably an honest mistake, easily done. I RTed something from someone dodgy once, then un-RTed it quickly (to some well-earned derision) & apologised. Surely Trump can be man enough to do the same?

If Trump says he didn't realise who it was, un-RTs & says it was an honest mistake, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, as someone that's done something similar. If he digs in even after he's told who that is...I'm not sure what to say...

Oh wait Andrew is still up and has seen it.

Andrew Lilico @ andrew_lilico
I'm trying to imagine how UK politics & culture would regard a leader from another country who acted like Trump does. Spain, say, or Japan or Argentina. Would we be more or less tolerant of her or him than we are of Trump?

Er what?

John Harwood @ johnjharwood
WH press secretary says it doesn't matter whether anti-Muslim video Trump tweeted today is real

Andrew Lilico @ andrew_lilico
"It doesn't matter if our reports about Jews abducting Christian children & drinking their blood are true. What matters is that their avarice & betrayal is real."

This one gets worse the more you think about it. How could anyone think that was an okay position to take?

Yes Andrew. As many of us have said for some time Trump is a Nazi Sympathiser.

Andrew Lilico @ andrew_lilico
Christians should be praying for Trump, that his heart shld be changed & turned away from its present path, that he shld discover humility, that his addictions shld be tamed, that he shld seek & find wise counsel, & that he shld resist folly, temper & petty vengance.

Is this like when we ask for prayers when gunmen kill lots of people in the us but no one does fuck all? Cos they are white.

Seriously mate, how did you not see this before? And you expect me to take you seriously on fucking Brexit when you didn't see this one coming and didn't realise that Trump is a Nazi?

It kinda fucks any ounce of creditability.

Still think we should be going after that big old trade deal?

Re: trump being bad at Twitter. I was rolling my eyes at the notion that it was all a big misunderstanding and that Trump could’ve accidentally retweeted something but he has tagged the wrong Theresa May in his tweet so perhaps Lilco had a point washes out mouth

Trump has legitimised the far right in his own country, now he’s trying to do it in ours. Spreading hatred has consequences & the President should be ashamed of himself.

Boris has responded but it must’ve slipped his mind to actually refer to trump. He’s got a lot going on mind, poor lamb

Boris Johnson
@BorisJohnson
Britain First is a divisive, hateful group whose views are not in line with our values. UK has a proud history as an open, tolerant society & hate speech has no place here

HashiAsLarry · 30/11/2017 07:00

Yes Trump, it would be a little easier to do if you weren't promoting a group whose bile directly led a member to commit an act of terrorism. twunt.

woman11017 · 30/11/2017 07:18

Trump's a fascist. And we all know what that makes May. She was anyway.
I like the bus game too. thanks Smile
