May's Speech Abbreviated:

We still have nfi how we are going to do this. EU this is your fault. You sort it out. We are too lazy, workshy and fighting like high school children to work it out ourselves. Be our whipping boy.

I support democracy as long as I get to do whatever I like
I support human rights as long as I can ignore them when I like.
I support the rule of law except when it doesn't suit my agenda.

Waffle waffle.

"Creative", "Dynamic" PR for my Premiership.

Waffle waffle

We really need policing cooperation, PLEASE keep it with us. I know I threatened to withdraw this, but I'm sorry, I was wrong and a bit of a dick about this.

Gets to the point FINALLY.

"2 year transition period"

(With another time bomb lock which is still too short for IT departments. Nothing to do with the next general election, honest).

RULE BRITANNIA!

Polite Applause.

Baddersthe FB thing is for real (worth people checking their local groups) The groups may be up, but some individuals who post a lot are having their accounts suspended. It could be for the very noblest of reasons, as FB are trying to curtail political postings. The same may be happening to Leave posters on FB, I haven't looked. But it makes contacting local groups even more difficult as a lot of them are on FB.

We hope to be able to announce positive news on this shortly. It is vital the public understands what Brexit means.

mybrainhurtsalot · 29/09/2017 20:28

Woman, that is such a good point; when so much organising/contact is via Facebook etc, it makes it much easier to shut down debate/activism by suspending accounts.

Think of this community - I rarely post but have been an avid reader since the very first thread and find the links and posts invaluable for keeping abreast of developments and getting pointers for things to look out for/what to lobby my MP about and so on.

If Mumsnet was suddenly taken off line, how would the contributors stay in touch or continue the debate? Even if some posters had exchanged RL contact details, it would be a huge loss for all the lurkers like me.

Badders08 · 29/09/2017 20:29

I would be bereft!

RedToothBrush · 29/09/2017 21:07

So I was right to point out that official secrets story. Didn't think it would connect directly back to Brexit but thought it part of the political climate.

New thread. I'm slightly AWOL this weekend at a family event I can't avoid. Which has peed me off slightly as no Manchester marching for me. :(

Here's something to cheer you up:

davidhencke.com/2017/09/29/exclusive-tories-face-oblivion-says-party-campaigner-as-membership-plummets-to-100000/amp/
Exclusive: Tories face “oblivion” says party campaigner as membership plummets to 100,000

One of the Tory’s longest serving campaigners is predicting the party is facing ” oblivion” after losing nearly 40,000 members this summer following Theresa May’s failure to secure a majority government at the general election.

Article worth reading in entirety. Ties with what I've thought and suspected for a while.

It says they will be virtually unable to fight another election as only 10% will be active in doing things on the ground. This certainly ties with what I know locally, as there is literally no one left for the next election here. Our previous Tory MP was going to only serve one more term if he won as he was fucked off and the local party is down to only two or three people who are active. One of those is in her 80s and could well be forced to stand down due to 'health' i can't tell you the real story as I'd have to kill you.

Tories face “oblivion” says party campaigner as membership plummets to 100,000

Please, please let that happen. As long as we don't get a Tory Lite as we did with New Labour.

Peregrina · 29/09/2017 22:03

This certainly ties with what I know locally, as there is literally no one left for the next election here.

This ties in with my experience also. The Tories hardly delivered any literature. By election day they realised that they were in trouble and pulled in tellers from neighbouring districts, all of whom were at least 75 years old - not a young person in sight, and yet the sitting Tory MP was only in her thirties, so you would have expected some support there. The LibDems knew that they had a good chance of winning the seat and could field a full slate of tellers for the GE, plus deliverers, with a cross section of ages, although some of the hoped for younger support went to Labour.

squishysquirmy · 29/09/2017 22:09

"I look forward to an independent Kurdish homeland, supported fully by the UK - even if then entire rest of the world would rather look the other way."

Even if they wanted to, they couldn't...... Would set a sticky precedent in the event of an unofficial Scottish Indy Ref 2 Grin Whatever they do, they look like hypocrites.

The transition period post-Brexit must be a maximum of 2yrs.. & not a second more
UK must refuse to accept new EU or ECJ rulings during transition
No payments for single market access when transition ends
UK must not agree to shadow EU rules to gain access to market

Interesting that Boris has two exclusives in the Sun. Especially given that more Sun voters didn't vote than voted. Why the Sun and not the Times, Mail, Express, Telegraph or Times?

If Mumsnet was suddenly taken off line

Well, I'd have to stop watching British TV and reading British newspapers completely then. For fear of breakdown. Mine. I keep saying it is just bonkers that a country with nigh on 65 million people and that was the public discourse before and after referendum. I've never heard so many going on about democracy so much and then have to watch the hypocrites vote to wrench it from Parliament.

Oh great, public servants will get a bit of a pay rise and then have to do the job of two or three people. Good man Boris sinister bulsh*tter with his fake bonhomie.

one of many reasons why he should NEVER be PM

A C4 documentary will be broadcast tomorrow about his fitness to become PM

Presumably just showing the old test card, unless they list all his gaffes

Boris Johnson was inside the Shwedagon Pagoda,
the most sacred Buddhist site in the capital Yangon
.....
A visibly tense ambassador Grin stood by as Johnson continued:
“The wind is in the palm trees and the temple bells they say ...”

Then Patrick reminded him:
“You’re on mic,” adding: “Probably not a good idea...”

“What?” Johnson replied. “The Road to Mandalay?”

“No,” said the ambassador sternly. “Not appropriate.”

“No?”
replied Johnson looking down at his mobile phone.
“Good stuff.”

The previously unbroadcast footage shows the diplomat managing to halt Johnson before he could get to the line about a

Problem is that most public servants are already doing the job of two or three people. They certainly are where I work. Whereas Boris is of course doing the job of 0.2 of a person. I leave you all to work out which 0.2

Cailleach Look at the contrasting charts to see who is most vulnerable in the event of no deal:

45-50% of UK exports (depending on whether you count gold) are to the EU, by far the largest export destination. That's 12-13% of UK GDP

16% of EU exports go to the UK, which makes the UK - narrowly - the largest export destination for the EU, but it's only around 3% of EU GDP.
www.niesr.ac.uk/blog/after-brexit-how-important-would-uk-trade-be-eu

The EU will notice the loss, but they'll be better able to export elsewhere - especially since they'll retain their trade deals with the rest of the world, whereas the UK won't
