Brexit

So the good times are about to roll....are they?

I wanted to ask on another thread, but they are all bunfight-y.

I am a remainer so I feel very depressed about today. I would like some reassurance from brexiters about what I have to look forwards to.

I'm afraid 'taking back control' isn't clear enough to me, so an explanation of what will be different if that's the theme you will go for.

So far, since the vote, my family has lost £10,000s and my husband's current job/role has been placed in jeopardy. I have probably lost the ability to automatically continue to work in an EU country in under 2 years time (I currently live in Germany, though this was intended to be temporary). I have dear friends relocating out of London since the banks are shifting jobs due to Brexit so I'm not sure who I would be moving back to. My house is worth less and I'm less likely to be able to sell it if I do want to move. I'll need to get the kids Irish passports if I want them to benefit from the EU.

So cheer me up - we're set for a brighter future aren't we? What can I look forwards to?

Yes I'm waiting with baited breath for Leavers to tell me what they're going to do to make this work. Presumably they are going to do something?

Yes I agree by the time the Economy recovers, several generations will have had there lives ecomically shattered. If you stay in the UK you will not be retiring.

If your kids stay they are going to have a tough life ahead. It will be your grandchildren who will see the benefit.

The logic being that with less regulation British business can be more dynamic.

Selling more arms is a option, building aircraft and ships without having to share the workload between countries.

herethereandeverywhere · 29/03/2017 14:13

Did the majority of the voters in the referendum do it to fall on their swords and punish their kids so that their grandchildren would be better off Confused

I think 20-30 years down the road the Britain will be doing much better than it is now in a economic sense.

Great :(

I could feel sorry for myself - I'll be 42-52 by the time we're "doing better", but instead I feel sorry for my brother, who is 17. He will spend at least the first half of his working life dealing with the repercussions of a financial disaster voted for by people who'll be retired or dead by the time any benefits whatsoever can be seen, and he didn't get any say in the matter.

southall · 29/03/2017 15:03

It wont take that long, the EU will collapse within 10 years.
And then we will be happy we left early.

squishysquirmy · 29/03/2017 15:11

If it does collapse, Brexit will be a major cause of that collapse. Sad
So not just fucking our own futures, but those of our neighbours too.

herethereandeverywhere · 29/03/2017 15:21

Greatwhite

Which regulations are the ones stifling the UK's dynamism exactly?

Not the ones protecting workers rights, health and safety, minimum standards?

We're going to go through 20 years of economic hardship so our workers can have less rights and our products be less scrutinised?

Or perhaps it it the likes of the cap on bankers bonuses that we're glad we don't have to adhere to? Because an under regulated banking sector performs flawlessly - as we've seen over the last decade....

Well, so far I'm totally underwhelmed. I'm patiently waiting for the Brexiters to spell out the utopia we are walking into...

I might have established that as there will be 'winners and losers' in all of this, I appear to be a 'loser', however, I'm not sure who the winners are and what they are gaining.

C'mon guys - the country has spoken! Theresa said it will be a red white and blue Brexit! People are allegedly having drinks to celebrate!

So who will be winning and how?

OP posts:
Greatwhiteworld · 29/03/2017 15:59

I assume that the regulations would be workers rights, I suspect they will be picked apart pretty quickly.

CardinalSin · 29/03/2017 16:17

"The logic being that with less regulation British business can be more dynamic"

However, without following the regulation we won't be able to trade with the EU anyway. So what are these lucrative new markets? Other EU countries seem to be perfectly capable of trading with other countries. Perhaps because they've actually got something to sell. And they still have protections for workers' rights, the environment etc.. So we're going to a) start making stuff again (yeah, right), and b) undercut other nations by paying our workers a pittance, and c) dismembering the NHS and any other services because we won't have enough tax to pay for them.

Well, that's cheered me up!

CardinalSin · 29/03/2017 16:18

And even if it were actually true that things would be better in 20 to 30 years time (clue; it won't be), that'll put me somewhere between 71 and 81, and presumably still working.

Joy unconfined.

Cherrypi · 29/03/2017 16:23

I've got one. We might be able to get rid of those agree to cookies boxes on websites. Martin Lewis was talking about it on twitter.

herethereandeverywhere · 29/03/2017 16:24

Hmmm, It's like I'm in an echo chamber with a group of fellow remainers...! Grin

Are the Brexiters all down the pub (drinking British ale and waving Union Jacks presumably) ?

You pretty much hit it right, we started dislike the way Britain was going back in 2012. We left the UK and are very glad we did, we will probably never return.

TheElementsSong · 29/03/2017 16:27

tries not to evoke mental image of Farage

Ah, Sir Nigel who has led the way to our future greatness. Except that he's going to move abroad if Brexit doesn't work out Hmm. Doesn't sound like he's fully on board with Believing, does it?

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 29/03/2017 16:28

They're all bricking up the channel tunnel and burning their passports innit herethere

Blueflowers2011 · 29/03/2017 16:32

Where are all the Brexiters then to fill us with all those positive thoughts that they supposedly guarantee?

Sorry, I have nothing positive to say other than I see most Brexiters are racist, the very few ones I know, friends and work colleagues, simply told me when I asked why they voted leave was 'to keep the foreigners out' and stop them taking our jobs. So I wont start that one again..

The same people i know have since hidden behind the excuse'to make Britain dynamic again' .... selling strawberry jam (good one) for 2 months of the year if lucky enough to grow or make full profit for produce of er Hovis bread. Ermm....struggling to think what else.

herethereandeverywhere · 29/03/2017 16:32

I never liked those pesky boxes! A total lack of secure income for the rest of my life is a price I'm willing to pay for that level of convenience!

Greatwhite can you say where you are (or PM me)? We're in Germany and thinking of our next move, inspiration would be good. I wanted it to be back to London but don't know if I can stomach living in England any longer.

If London went for state independence I'd go back.

OP posts:
herethereandeverywhere · 29/03/2017 16:41

Yes, Farage: So assured is he of the Great post-Brexit Britain, he's moved to the US to kiss Trump's arse. Hmm

I did once write on Facebook, early last year when life was still ok, that I was so sick of Farage, if we voted Leave would he just Fuck off.... unintentional prophesy that was.

Wow you all really have developed some echo chamber round here!! Do you really think any leaver is going to pop their head above the parapet and say anything just so you can all shoot them down? I don't think so. You have all made your minds up long ago that it is going to be dome and disaster good luck to you.
One thing I would say is that TM as stated that they will protect workers rights and even make them stronger, so you can all forget that old chestnut. I think the types of regulations that businesses are keen to get rid of are the kinds that are to do with their running and reporting of their business. There are loads of regulations with regard to things that are not relevant to our industries or our climate etc. Unfortunately we are one of the few countries who have always played by the rules and done everything the EU has told us unlike many of our European neighbours so we have been adversely affected much more than they have.
I for one am really exited, and can't wait for this new beginning.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 29/03/2017 16:53

Proof will be in the pudding though won't it. May has said alot of things.

Pardon me for not thinking the Tories will protect workers

I don't think things will be better for people like yourself, herethere and genuinely I am sorry for that. I hope that possibly we may establish a more equal society in time.
