Mark Carney said that people on low incomes are going to find things tough in the coming months because of the fall in sterling.

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 22:36

time4chocolate · 04/11/2016 22:41

WW - you beat me to it re Mark Carney u turn (the unreliable boyfriend).

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 22:42

Sterling hasn't dropped as much against the euro. And our products are cheaper abroad. And the governments taken investment action. The winds were fair set and we had begun to adjust.

surferjet · 04/11/2016 22:43

Point taken Smile

OP posts:
WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 22:44

I'm speechless because you and bit have no idea of the source of parliamentary authority. And that despite this you have decided to lecture others on sovereignty. But mainly the first one.

time4chocolate · 04/11/2016 22:44

surfer - only if you give us full details of what it's going to be about (just so we know what we are voting for) Grin

surferjet · 04/11/2016 22:46

Listen you lot, it's a simple in or out ok.
Anyway, I've steamrollered ahead on my own & opened a new thread Smile

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 04/11/2016 22:46

time

What!!!! We need to know what we are voting for????

when did that happen????

Kaija · 04/11/2016 22:47

You keep saying that, and I don't know why. Is it because I said our representatives should represent our best interests and not our "wishes"?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 04/11/2016 22:47

surfer is expanding her pub franchise

Business must be good

Petronius16 · 04/11/2016 22:53

time4chocolate · 04/11/2016 22:56

surferjet · 04/11/2016 22:58

WW -_I have many issues with the UK system of government. However, it is what it is. The UK is a representative democracy. Fact. That is the system Brexiters fought to retain.

The referendum was advisory. Fact.

These are points of law. Fact.

Parliament is sovereign. Fact.

You want the views of the people to count. You want the referendum to be legally binding. However that is not the system we have.

I am more than happy to discuss the need for PR, a written constitution and a Bill of Rights but in the UK at the moment MPs do not follow the direct instructions of their constituents. You might not like it but it is the system you voted to maintain.

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 22:59

That distinction is specious. The source of their authority is the will of the people. That is the well from which MPs draw all their legitimacy. They do not draw it from 'knowing what's best for people' or being good souls, or from the August institution which they join. They draw it - and any moral authority - from the will of the people.

This, you will not admit or acknowledge.

Therefore it's impossible for you to make the second, natural, logical step: that the will of the people has already been expressed. It remains only for our representatives to fulfil it.

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 23:01

I'm so glad I'm not the type of person who has to type 'fact' after everything. Shudder.

GloriaGaynor · 04/11/2016 23:03

And if the will of the people was to bring back hanging or invade France by say a 2% majority in a referendum, is Parliament obliged to comply?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 04/11/2016 23:04

winchester

Shit

I have just typed "true fact" in my post on the other thread
