Crikey just seen my last post, think I'm virtually pissed already. Must learn to preview posts Grin

Yeah, seen the right wing press thread, I'm staying off that one for health reasons.

I like your resolution mango. I agree.

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 17:55

Anti democratic because the aim is to defy direct democracy. It's being dressed up as something else in a sort of faux concerned head tilty way but that's what it is.

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 17:56

Hello all
I'll take my coat off and get stuck in shortly

surferjet · 04/11/2016 18:02

Exactly WW, it's all bollocks < throws £1 in swear jar > it's the elite doing favours for the elite. a load of mega rich poor hating remainers wanting to stop Brexit.

load of mega rich poor hating remainers

Wasn't one of the claimants a Leave voter?

surferjet · 04/11/2016 18:10

Stop splitting hairs.
The woman who 'won' the legal challenge is an angry remainer. She even admitted she was devastated by the referendum result.
It's disgusting what's happening.

Nick clegg has admitted he would block brexit if there's an act of Parliament and he doesn't get the concessions he wants. So much for AV and PR and all that direct democracy he used to pretend to love.

TheElementsSong · 04/11/2016 18:15

AFAIK there is no hair-splitting. If you're going to aim anger at one of the claimants for being a Remainer, you must aim equal anger at the other claimant who is a Leaver. He doesn't cease to exist because he doesn't fit your narrative.

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 18:18

'Stop splitting hairs' that's the kind of brusque bossy landlady we want

Just stop it with the pretendy concern for democracy. It's no way to carry on. Get a grip. We all know it's a facade.

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 18:19

Yeah rollocks to that too he's a plant, folding money on it

Dollius01 · 04/11/2016 18:20

The fact is that we live in a parliamentary democracy, not a direct democracy. This means that, legally, a referendum cannot override Parliament. Anyone who thought we could leave the EU without an act of Parliament was deluded

surferjet · 04/11/2016 18:23

Exactly.
I'd have more respect for them if they were honest about it. All this pseudo 'it's best for everyone' crap just makes me sick. Their heads are firmly up the EU's arse & that's where they want them to stay.

Can One bring Ones corgi's into this establishment?
Yes? Oh how kind.
One would like a small sherry.
And to make a pronouncement that One is bloody fucking annoyed with all this malarkey and will be calling the PM to Buck House where I shall issue forth on no uncertain terms Ones Royal Prerogative that we shall Brexit. Be off with those Leavers!

jaws5 · 04/11/2016 18:28

Just stop it with the pretendy concern for democracy
Once again, this is what democracy looks like. Democracy. Not Mob Rule.

SEPARATION OF POWERS
POLITICAL SCIENCE
WRITTEN BY:
The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica

Separation of powers, division of the legislative, executive, and judicial functions of government among separate and independent bodies. Such a separation, it has been argued, limits the possibility of arbitrary excesses by government, since the sanction of all three branches is required for the making, executing, and administering of laws

TheElementsSong · 04/11/2016 18:39

Just stop it with the pretendy concern for democracy

IIRC threads passim have been pointing out for some months now that our democracy is a representative, parliamentary one. It's mostly been Leavers who were most "pretendily" enamoured of one-off plebiscites and quashing of any further discussion as being the epitome of democracy.

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 18:46

Yeah rubbish

Kaija · 04/11/2016 19:36

The judgment has come down in favour of UK parliamentary sovereignty. This is one of the reasons leavers gave for voting leave.

Judging by this thread we have now to add that to te list of wholly Fido

Kaija · 04/11/2016 19:36

Not Fido - disingenuous reasons/.

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 19:44

It's an excuse. Everybody knows itSmile

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 19:47

Surf at least we can congratulate ourselves on the amazing conversion we've effected in remainers about the joys of parliamentary sovereignty. It seems they were listening - who knewGrin

Kaija · 04/11/2016 19:52

We always wanted parliamentary sovereignty, but didn't my need to worry about it until now. We always had it.

Dollius01 · 04/11/2016 19:55

We always had Parliamentary sovereignty! But apparently Leavers think we should just ditch it now...

Kaija · 04/11/2016 19:56

Yes. Odd isn't it?

WinchesterWoman · 04/11/2016 20:23

No you want it now just for a little bit so we can maintain the absence of it forever. It's a handy excuse to block brexit.
