ToujeoQueen · 03/11/2016 11:13

"But this is parliamentary sovereignty"

this

AutumnLeavesAgain · 03/11/2016 11:17

But if the electorate come to truly despise the parliament..

AutumnLeavesAgain · 03/11/2016 11:18

The poll tax was the will of parliament.

Petronius16 · 03/11/2016 11:18

Just popped in yesterday, don't like going into pubs on my own, taint fit, taint right, taint proper, see. Ah, and rarely get to meet any remainers … most people I know and family voted Leave – aged from 19 to 82. Haven't fell out with anyone so far.

Mindtrope · 03/11/2016 11:33

I am delighted at today's ruling.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 03/11/2016 11:37

I'm walking on air!

Cheers everybody Wine

WinchesterWoman · 03/11/2016 11:38

I have you the evidence that it's not - straight away when you asked for it elements

Plus it was mad in the light of a conversation by temainers about boycotting Hmm

WinchesterWoman · 03/11/2016 11:39

I think it's not a bad ruling, so long as it's a vote and not legisltipn

surferjet · 03/11/2016 11:40

All remainers are now banned.
Get out of my pub & go and open your own.
The Traitor Arms.

Out, all of you.

Petronius I live with a remainer and we get on very well indeed!

It s only on MN and the news channels that I come across the hard line and / or spiky ones. Maybe there's a connection, Lol

WinchesterWoman · 03/11/2016 11:44

Remainers should temper their joy!

MangoMoon · 03/11/2016 11:50

*mango, it's not 'funny' at all.

Why would you quote part of a song including the line 'the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep' as an example of why leaving the EU is positive?*

Well, it wasn't a post about why leaving the EU is positive (or indeed, negative).

It was a post about the difference in approach between leavers & remainers.

Remainers chose 'hold' - to stay in the game and wait for an eventual 'win'.

Leavers chose to 'fold' - to cut their losses and leave the table.

The last line about dying in your sleep was just the last line in that verse - it's just a song after all...

Everything in life doesn't necessarily warrant a microscope or forensic analysis tbf.

time4chocolate · 03/11/2016 11:51

surfer - I think we will need a bouncer on the door this eveningWink

MangoMoon · 03/11/2016 11:53

As well as a bouncer, could we bring in a proof reader for bear?

She seems to be showing a rather sorrowful lack of ability to read & contextualise people's posts today.

Petronius16 · 03/11/2016 11:54

Autumn me too, or rather OH is a Leaver - we're fine!

StorminaBcup · 03/11/2016 11:57

There will be an appeal though, it'll go to the Supreme Court.

MangoMoon · 03/11/2016 11:59

Agree autumn, my bff is a remainer - we seem to still get on as well as we ever have.
In my wider friendship circle and family there's a spread of both (more leavers than remainers though I think) - we're all still fine too.
No dramatic fall-outs or overuse of Sad emojis in sight.

Kaija · 03/11/2016 11:59

Are you Brexiteers not feeling a little cheered by the small improvement to our economic prospects this ruling has brought. It's got to be a good thing, no?

MangoMoon · 03/11/2016 12:01

I'm pissed off they're appealing tbh Storm, it's just dragging it out even more.

The ruling basically said (if I've understood it correctly) that parliament is sovereign and the PM cannot just make a decision without the consent of parliament as a whole.
This is a good thing, surely?
(For future precedence too - parliament is bigger than one person).

birdybirdywoofwoof · 03/11/2016 12:03

Most Brexitters will be very pleased I think because they care really passionately about sovereignty and "getting control back".

Hawaiiisalongwayaway · 03/11/2016 12:04

omg I need a drink

time4chocolate · 03/11/2016 12:05

In light of today's news I would imagine the leave camp have just won a few more votes from the 12 million undecided/no turnout voters and possibly, dare I say it, maybe even a few remainers.

BertrandRussell · 03/11/2016 12:23

Vous avez perdu. Surmonter.

MangoMoon · 03/11/2016 12:24

Just watching Stephen Kinnock on the Daily Politics show - he's talking sense.

Put the vote to parliament - trigger article 50: yes or no.

Parliament vote Yes: trigger A50 (as per the ref outcome), Lords have said they won't block it.

Process has been followed correctly, everybody can get on with concentrating on Brexit & stop pissing about with arguing over technicalities.
