What do Leavers think about today's developments?

MangoMoon · 03/11/2016 10:22

Today's decision?

Well I'd rather it happened now, and procedures are properly followed rather than 2 years or more down the line.

BoredofBrexit · 03/11/2016 10:23

Agree with Mango.

Bearbehind · 03/11/2016 10:25

What do you mean about rather it happened now than in 2 years?

The issue was over who can invoke a50, if the government had won they could do it when they wanted- what has 2 years got to do with it?

BertrandRussell · 03/11/2016 10:26

I post it because leavers are constantly implying that a tidal wave of "ordinary people" voted to leave. A triumph for the common man against the Guardianista Elite

When it fact, although it was a vote for leave, it was a vote on a level that Farage said he would challenge if it had gone against him.

surferjet · 03/11/2016 10:28

I'm disappointed tbh, very very disappointed - but in reality it means not very much as any MP ruling against the will of the people is out of a job.

OP posts:
MangoMoon · 03/11/2016 10:28

Also hope there's no appeal.

As the woman who brought the action said in her statement "process, not politics".

I just hope that MPs won't use it as a platform for fuckwittery though, Britain and Brexit needs stability & direction now - although I'm sure there will be myriad attempts at derailing now which will just fuck us all over in the long term.

surferjet · 03/11/2016 10:29

Plus it's just delaying the inevitable which is not good for anyone.

Even the ones from constituencies where a majority of (extraordinary) people voted remain obviously Hmm

BoredofBrexit · 03/11/2016 10:31

It probably means a much longer period uncertainty for the economy, less than ideal.

MangoMoon · 03/11/2016 10:32

*What do you mean about rather it happened now than in 2 years?

What I meant was I'm glad it happened now, at the beginning, rather than further down the line when things had started moving onwards - if this action had been brought in the future when TM had already triggered A50 then it would have been hugely damaging.

Kaija · 03/11/2016 10:33

Surferjet, the pound has shot up on the news. Is this not a good thing? Perhaps you won't be paying quite so much for your drinks after all.

Not to mention the fact that it is a victory for parliamentary sovereignty which I thought was what leavers wanted in the first place.

I guess there's just no pleasing some people.

BoredofBrexit · 03/11/2016 10:33

And maybe changes within government.

StorminaBcup · 03/11/2016 10:34

If you read the article it says that ruling against brexit is unlikely.

raises the possibility that the MPs who backed Remain could block the UK leaving, although experts suggest this would be unlikely.

I think it's a good thing, if nothing else it could mean that the brexit government should be voted in following a general election and after setting out their brexit mandate. People have voted to leave, which is their right, but they don't know what they're leaving for. Grass isn't always greener as they say...

Bearbehind · 03/11/2016 10:36

surfer why are you very very disappointed when your sides mantra was 'regaining sovereignty' and the lord chief justice said that “the most fundamental rule of the UK constitution is that parliament is sovereign'b

surferjet · 03/11/2016 10:37

It's not a victory for anyone. It's just delaying the inevitable.

Oh & I don't drink, I'm seriously into healthy living. Smile

Confused which is why I said I hope there's no appeal & I'm happy that there's clarity as to what the correct process is.

MangoMoon · 03/11/2016 10:43

As for the Kenny Rogers quote-
*
and the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep

Really* Hmm

Funny that you chose to zoom in and focus on that last line only...

Glass half empty etc Wink

Kaija · 03/11/2016 10:45

Mango, it was a response to surfer's very very disappointed comment.

Surfer, good that you don't drink. I'm guessing you eat though.

Bearbehind · 03/11/2016 10:52

mango, it's not 'funny' at all.

Why would you quote part of a song including the line 'the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep' as an example of why leaving the EU is positive?

surferjet · 03/11/2016 10:54

Seriously disappointed yes, gutted actually.
Think I'll disappear & go & lick my wounds, not sure I can handle all your gloating.

Kaija · 03/11/2016 10:59

BUT THIS IS PARLIAMENTARY SOVEREIGNTY!!!

Seriously, this is good news for you too.

Bearbehind · 03/11/2016 11:00

Exactly kaija

Kaija · 03/11/2016 11:01

Just think of it as taking back control from an unelected elite.
