Pro-Leavers - please help

Good morning.
I am following a lot of conversations and events about the referendum and there are a lot of assertions about "what the referendum was about" and "why people voted" and "what people want."
I just wanted to ask, neutrally, if you believe that we should leave the EU what good things do you want to happen or believe will happen when we do?
I can't account for anyone else, but I have seen some really nasty referendum threads and I often get upset about it myself, so I want to say I will not attack or even argue with anyone, I'm just interested to hear the wishes and opinions of people who want positively to leave. It is such an emotive issue - not least to me - and maybe there are some views we haven't heard yet.
Thanks if you do answer! And thanks for reading.

The point was the thread that is about "this is not what you voted for" is full of leavers making remarks or whatever, no reason why this one should be sacrosanct.

There's equally no reason for any remainers to jump into a different thread, one clearly asking leavers to discuss their thoughts without anyone fighting, and start to smear their negativity all over the walls.

smallfox2002 · 10/10/2016 13:41

You know the financial markets don't take their cue from MN boards right?

Self fulfilling prophecy? So why aren't the markets all jubilant and happy because that's what a good bunch of leave voters were saying, why don't they think we are going to get the promised brilliant deals from the EU and other trading partners? That would be self fulfilling too.

IVotedOut · 10/10/2016 13:42

Things were cited in both sides and up correct, that's politics. People can only hazard a guess about the outcome, nobody has a crystal ball. I didn't vote because of any promises over money, but it of my person view on the matter.

IVotedOut · 10/10/2016 13:43

Smallfox, if you're standing in a chair, reaching down to pull someone up onto the chair alongside you, it's easier because of gravity for that person to actually pull you off your chair, than it is for you to be able to pull them up.

It's the same with negativity and scare-mongering.

IVotedOut · 10/10/2016 13:44

It's well documented that people dislike and fear change

IVotedOut · 10/10/2016 13:44

Some more than others!

DarlingBuddyOfMay · 10/10/2016 13:46

The thing is, and this is a genuine post, is that I think small is smart, and I also think she might be right about a lot of things. And we may be wrong. But we don't know. And I don't think there is one single leave voter who voted with ill intent. Every voter leave or remain voted as they did because they thought they were doing the right thing. No-one knows what the outcome will be. But most will wait and watch and are not on here shouting the odds and professing themselves to right and others wrong. That is the problem.

time4chocolate · 10/10/2016 13:46

IVotedOut - independence from the EU pretty much sums up my vote up in a nutshell, although that doesn't seem to be sufficient enough for a lot of people.

Small likes to play top trumps with Leavers opinions and won't be happy until she has beaten everyone down to the point where we all say 'whoops aren't we thick we have all made a terrible mistake'. I suspect it's all a bit of a game for her (people get their kicks from odd things).

IamWendy · 10/10/2016 13:46

I wonder if smallfox will get a job in the EU army's propaganda department?

smallfox2002 · 10/10/2016 13:46

I think the scaremongering point is ridiculous, the markets are responding to the outcome of the vote, I'm sorry if it doesn't give you the answer of what you want but you were warned.

It isn't caused by negative thinking, more reality of what is likely to happen to the UK economy if we have hard brexit.

smallfox2002 · 10/10/2016 13:47

I wonder if Wendy will ever make a valid point.

IVotedOut · 10/10/2016 13:48

Ever heard of panic buying smallfox? It's a real thing. The shops run out of goods because everyone panics and fearfully makes choices they wouldn't normally make. This can also apply to money too.

IVotedOut · 10/10/2016 13:51

Time4 chocolate you are not alone! From the leavers I know, the majority just quietly want to be independent. No fuss, no bother. No ripping limbs off other people out of misguided righteous fear and indignation but I do understand people often act out of character when fear provokes them. I am trying to make allowances for the behaviour of so many remainers here!

IamWendy · 10/10/2016 13:51

I've made plenty of valid posts. You just won't accept them as they differ from yours. I guess when you have so much money, success and influence like our dear smallfox, you don't need to listen to the lesser people.

IVotedOut · 10/10/2016 13:53

I understand the rich find leaving uncomfortable, that must be a hard change to their lifestyle that they feel forced into. It can't be nice, none of us like change forced upon us. That's kinda why I wanted to leave the bossy EU Wink

smallfox2002 · 10/10/2016 13:53

But they're not panic buying are they, panic would be the day or maybe week after the vote. This is 4 months in and the pound is sinking further and further with every indication of what brexit is likely to mean. HSBC today predicted that the pound will be worth $1.10 by the middle of 2017.

Forex traders don't take up the positions they have out of panic. The UK is doing it's self big economic harm by taking this approach.

IVotedOut · 10/10/2016 13:55

It hasn't been a continual decline, it's been pretty up and down. The biggest fall was very recently since May announced her intention to begin the process of leaving officially next March. It will calm down again, it always does. But I can see how it would hurt your pocket more than mine, if it's true that you're rich.

drwitch · 10/10/2016 13:55

okay
"I voted leave because I think globalisation is a bad thing, I think we should all consume less and only what can be produced locally" - I disagree but it is not my place to argue with you
"I voted leave because I want people on this island to be able to control what happens on this island" - I think I am right to point out that leaving the EU will mean we have less control rather than more. We can elect our MEPS, we can elect the governments who represent us in the EU we cannot do anything about companies forcing countries to compete down labour standards

CeciledeVolanges · 10/10/2016 13:55

Thanks very much tiggy for putting that the way you did.

Well, seeing as we are still to see this world war 3 that was predicted, I'll take HSBC's prediction with a pinch of salt.

IVotedOut · 10/10/2016 13:59

Yeah I never did bank with HSBC anyway Wink

IVotedOut · 10/10/2016 14:00

(Totally missing the scare tactic point!)

smallfox2002 · 10/10/2016 14:02

The Dollar/Pound rate has been on average $1.43 to the pound all year running up till the vote.

Since the vote it went down to under $1.30 and has remained there, with a steady decline since May's speech.

It fell after the vote and has remained there, the highest it got was $1.30 in a day.

Wendy, come on then give me YOUR reasons for voting leave.

smallfox2002 · 10/10/2016 14:03

"Well, seeing as we are still to see this world war 3 that was predicted"

See this is the thing WW3 was never predicted, yet more disinformation from the leave camp.

Did they actually say anything that was true?

IamWendy · 10/10/2016 14:06

Why do you need to know mine? You said that thanks to your wealth and success that the goings on after brexit won't affect you, so why do I have to detail my exact personal reasons for leaving? Maybe brexit will have no affect on me whatsoever, and my reasons are ideological???
