Good to have a set date.

OP posts:
StrangeLookingParasite · 03/10/2016 21:58

There's a huge swath of people who don't seem to have any comprehension of the enormity of this decision.

I could not agree more.

Just right now I fucking hate leave voters, every short-sighted, ignorant oblivious one of them. Our lives here are going to be completely upended and I have not met ONE leave voter who this even occurred to. They all say 'Oh, I never thought of that...'

Brumella · 03/10/2016 22:06

Today is a bad day for me too. My anger is at the system that allowed this to happen to us. Why the referendum? Why such lies allowed by politicians and media? Why did we believe them? Why didn't the EU do more to persuade us? Why wasn't a higher majority needed? :(.

Leavers and Remainers we have gone way past having a pop at each other over who won and who's got the best argument. We all need to have a long hard look at what Brexit is going to do to us all and take action.

Peregrina · 03/10/2016 22:06

I was old enough to vote in the 1975 Referendum. My recollection then was that there was much more grumbling about the Common Market, yet there was a huge vote in favour.

In those days mass tourism was nothing like as big an industry as today. Now we have got used to our budget airlines and hen does in Alicante, and regular holidays in Spain and Greece. In short become much more au fait with other European cultures. So it's puzzling, except it's not - Farage whipped up racial hatred, Johnson had all his silly nonsense about straight bananas.

And don't let any Leaver think that Boris or Farage will be there to help them out when it goes tits up, because they won't - their aim will be to look after No 1.

CousinCharlotte · 03/10/2016 22:09

It's called hyper reality.

CoteDAzur · 03/10/2016 22:10

Ooh, a date. I was wondering why the Pound nosedived today.

WrongTrouser · 03/10/2016 22:14

It's difficult to imagine why people aren't talking about Brexit at work when you read posts like StrangeLookingParasite's, isn't it?

Bearbehind · 03/10/2016 22:27

What's the counter then wrong?

What can you say to convince people that stranges assessment isn't bang on?

WrongTrouser · 03/10/2016 22:40

Surprising as it may seem I feel no need to convince people who "fucking hate" me and call me ignorant of anything.

surferjet · 03/10/2016 22:46

I fucking hate people who have no respect for democracy.

The majority voted to leave.

End of.

Corcory · 03/10/2016 22:51

This 'moron' won't be replying either.

Bearbehind · 03/10/2016 22:54

Except to say 'I won't be replying'

PMSL

Bearbehind · 03/10/2016 22:59

surfer unless you can come up with something more than your overriding need to stop immigrants coming you don't need to comment further- we all know where you stand.

Saxie007 · 03/10/2016 23:01

It's been ages since the vote for Brexit and I still haven't seen a convincing argument for it, except from Mr Odey who funded the leave campaign, and coincidentally, who made about £200M playing the markets that day and who will be somewhat isolated from any repercussions. I can see why he voted leave and wanted others too. It was a great swindle.

If I'd voted leave I think I might feel like I had been played by the establishment who can fly off to the carribean and laugh their arses off while we deal with the shit economic consequences to come. The EU wanted to clamp down on the city, that's not going to happen now.

Peregrina · 03/10/2016 23:10

I don't have much time for those who think democracy = dictatorship. Don't think that Farage, Johnson and co will come to bail you out, when you fall foul of the dictators, because they most certainly won't.

prettybird · 03/10/2016 23:38

I fucking hate people who have no respect for freedom of speech.

A very narrow majority voted to leave with some not understanding the consequences or saying it was about immigration when that wasn't on the ballot paper.

End of .....what? Confused

You don't expect the "losing" party in an election to shut up shop and go and hide under a rock for 5 years until the next election ok, the current Labour Party might be an exception : in a democracy, we expect them to challenge what is going on and to propose alternatives if they disagree.

Brumella · 03/10/2016 23:40

I am usually polite in my discussions with Leave voters and don't think trading insults gets us anywhere. I do not by any stretch of the imagination think people were stupid to vote Leave. My remain vote was unresearched and based on a gut feel and a love of Europe and I was painfully ignorant on the flaws and benefits of the EU (I am less so now). I can understand why the claims made by Leave were appealing and convincing to many. However, now we have all had time to reflect, uncover the lies, do our own research and listen to those pesky experts, I find it hard to believe anyone sensible would still agree Brexit is a wise step. I have had much discussion with Leave voters, have almost been desperate to find something positive about Brexit to ease my feeling it is just wrong. Sadly I am still looking.

jaws5 · 03/10/2016 23:40

We've been left with no protection from the EU, so we are at the mercy of whoever has the power. But hey, that's democracy right? Who said that the problem with democracy is that 50% of the population is by definition more stupid than the average person? And that's why referenda are so dangerous - look at Colombia. It's now quite clear that most brexit voters didn't know what they were voting for despite every expert warning of what we're seeing now, and what's coming in the long term: a bankrupt, backward looking country, basking in the glory of the old empire...

jaws5 · 03/10/2016 23:44

And now all the talk is about minimising the impact. brumella I agree that now many people must be realising the catastrophe that this is, and it's not too late...

Peregrina · 03/10/2016 23:49

And there is a very good reason why Referenda are banned in Germany.

Brumella · 04/10/2016 00:02

yes yes and yes. Write to MPs, meet with MPs, sleep with M.Ps, whatever it takes. If you are on FB and haven't already done so, come join The 48% to help the fight.

Interesting comment: In the EU, the fruit and veg looks much more natural. Even though it's a decision by the EU,we've implememented it more rigourously than in the EU
Yes but why would we let the truth get in the way of a good Daily Mail headline (350 million a week anyone?). When I go back to the UK for visits, the perfect looking, shiny, tasteless, watery efforts in the fresh produce sections, picked way before being ready and costing a fortune for 6 such works of art leave me cold and looking forward to returning to their tasty, misshapen, sometimes bruised, Italian counterparts.
Regarding people not talking about it one reason is probably because they are just not remotely interested. A frightening amount of people seem to think it has already happened as evidenced by the amount of "see - no financial Armageddon" gleeful comments. Appreciate this is just in my experience but all the Leave voters I know (bar one) are people who are not remotely engaged in anything political in the normal run of things. So they have returned to their status quo after delivering their killer blow to the Man and the establishment and are now blindly trusting said Man and said establishment to see things through in their best interests. And Brexit has been consigned to their happy memory bank along with when Utd last shafted City and other such simplistic Win/Lose experiences.

CoteDAzur · 04/10/2016 07:13

"see - no financial Armageddon"

Of course not.

Strangelookingparasite has just summed up in one small paragraph the whole tone of these threads, well done. You sound a lovely person who suits their name. Basically you vote my way or else you are a 'gurning fool'. Lovely.
