To feel really positive about leaving the EU

I know there has been lots of fear stories but in a few weeks since the vote we have managed to get a new PM who seems more than capable and we are now in control of our destiny without being ruled by an unelected and unaccountable EU. The EU has for a long time been a basket case and has condemned much of the youth of Southern Europe to decades of unemployment, it's a relief to be out. Do remember we are now free to negotiate our own trade deals with the rest of the world and most countries are not in the EU and seem to do well. There have been so many fear stories which have been peddled by self interest. I wonder in 5 years time how many remainers will be asking to rejoin the EU!!

HTH. Smile

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 00:26

Magic, Kitty. Magic.

kitty1976 · 14/07/2016 00:27

I'm not necessarily right or wrong being in a majority does not make me right. Please can you tell me how many of the current 5 EU presidents (why 5?) have been elected by voters?

It is exciting to be in control of our own destiny! It's such a huge adrenaline kick, I haven't been able to sleep. You know what it's like? It's like being in a bus that's accelerating towards a cliff-edge! Of course I'm not actually in control of the bus, but I can't get off it. The person in the driving seat must be getting a real high from the power! The power, the danger! The thrill of the suicide mission! The bus full of terrified passengers.

Wow.
They should bottle this stuff.

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 00:31

kitty Another time, I might argue that point. But, you what? I have to say: What a total, fucking irrelevance.

The economy is tanking - and you care about that?

FFS.

You're like a chicken, rthat's chopped off it's own head, shouting: 'I've taken back control! I've taken back control!"

Yeah.

I'll bet that chicken feels really powerful.

kitty about the same number as elected our head of state the Queen (=zero) or our prime minister (zero of the electorate put her into that role).

Not sure if you've noticed, OP, but the electorate didn't vote for Theresa May or indeed for any other Prime Minister. We vote for individual MPs. Europe operates in a similar manner.

It's lovely to be patronised so much for having a different view, no wonder so many people voted leave and got fed up with being patronised and talked down to. I wish people and those in power would listen to us normal folk rather than telling us what to think. The EU referendum showed how out of touch some people are.

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:36

There are many many statistics that show the less you are educated the more likely it was you voted leave
Google it
I think I was definitely out of touch with how many thick people there are in this country

Whisperingeye1 · 14/07/2016 00:37

It also showed that some people have no real understanding of the impact of the outcome of the vote. You have ignored everything posters have said and just keep posting utter tripe. No one is talking down to you but if you post in AIBU but don't actually want an answer then perhaps your thread should go elsewhere.

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 00:37

No-one's patronising you, kitty, we're mostly trying to get an answer out of you about why we should feel so positive. You tell us you don't want to be told what to think, fine; so tell us what you think will happen that means we will be in control of our destiny when we have to negotiate with the EU, and what negotiating power you think we have. Do also tell us why we should feel positive about the tanking pound without bringing in what is self-evident nonsense about house prices and the FTSE.

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 00:37

If you voted 'LEave' because you felt patronised, then you are really, truly stupid. The referendum was about EU membership.

Only true idiots would have voted in answer to some other, nebulous question (presumably written in invisible ink that only they could read).

GarlicStake · 14/07/2016 00:38

Can you tell me how many of the current UK Prime Ministers have been elected by voters?

How about the 800 Members of the House of Lords? How many of those were elected by voters?

On that topic, Kitty, did anyone explain:-

In the European Union, laws are proposed by a Commission that is indirectly elected.
After conducting extensive research and debating with experts, the Commission presents its proposals to the elected representatives.
The elected representatives vote on whether to adopt the new laws.

In the UK, laws are proposed by elected representatives.
They are then passed to an indirectly elected and partially unelected commission, which conducts half-hearted research and barely bothers to debate.
The unelected body votes on whether to adopt the new laws.

Which system do you think is more professional?

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 00:39

Seriously, Mumsnet is a forum built around communication.

You came here wanting to talk.

Sorry if we're not giving you the chat you wanted.

We're a random selection of the public.

Maybe you'll have to advertise somewhere to meet the likeminded.

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:39

They voted leave because they wanted their country back
Where's it been?

hotcurrypowder · 14/07/2016 00:40

I've reported the "Fuck off" personal attacks.

And this, dear readers, is why the Leavers can't have a reasoned conversation with the Remainers. This is why we were the silent majority!

kitty1976 · 14/07/2016 00:40

It's funny how everyone thinks the EU is doing so well when everyone on the outside can see it's a basket case and we are better off out of it. But let's all ignore the rest of the world ignore what is in front out our eyes. It's amazing it was an out vote because when you look at this forum everyone wants to remain but perhaps that shows how out of touch of reality people are on these forums!!! If only we allowed people on mumsnet a vote then the country would be saved!!!!

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:40

Possibly small ads in the Sun?

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 00:41

If you think that "Fuck off" is a personal attack, hotcurrypowder, you are sadly deluded.

herethereandeverywhere · 14/07/2016 00:41

Hey Kitty, you 'normal folk' you! We're listening to you but we haven't yet heard anything of substance.

How will exiting the EU be better for the country? How?

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 00:41

I will admit that my last couple of posts are impatient and rude.

My first wasn't, though. That was just a statement. If you found that patronising, you're just going to have to live with it.

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:42

If everyone had half a brain it would have been
What exactly are you trying to achieve with this thread?
People are angry at the impacts already so really you are just stirring

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 00:42

OP, please just concentrate for a minute and tell us precisely how you believe that we are better off out of the EU. What is the plan for achieving that?
