To feel really positive about leaving the EU

kitty1976 · 13/07/2016 22:59

I know there has been lots of fear stories but in a few weeks since the vote we have managed to get a new PM who seems more than capable and we are now in control of our destiny without being ruled by an unelected and unaccountable EU. The EU has for a long time been a basket case and has condemned much of the youth of Southern Europe to decades of unemployment, it's a relief to be out. Do remember we are now free to negotiate our own trade deals with the rest of the world and most countries are not in the EU and seem to do well. There have been so many fear stories which have been peddled by self interest. I wonder in 5 years time how many remainers will be asking to rejoin the EU!!

hotcurrypowder

Being silent isn't very useful though is it? So please tell us how exiting the EU will be better for our country.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 14/07/2016 00:43

In the long run will it be as disastrous as some are predicting or as great for the UK as others are claiming I don't know I don't hold either opinion

it is only three weeks ago so much has happened since I know people who feel it was the right thing to leave but even they are not feeling positive as politically it has been far too precarious

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 00:44

kitty, you do know, don't you, that a majority of the country didn't actually vote Leave?

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 00:44

Sadiq has asked Londoners not to demonise the Leavers.

It's.so.hard.

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:45

It's split the country
Families and friends not talking
And we get the oh it will all be fine crap yet again
It's not fine

Whisperingeye1 · 14/07/2016 00:46

hotcurry this is not a reasoned conversation because the op is not responding. She is simply making statements with little evidence and then ignoring anyone elses point of view. Leave voters are as entitled to their vote as anyone else but I am interested to know why we should be feeling positive. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but for some of us the consequences of this vote are very real and already having an impact. For anyone who it is not effected by the outcome thats great but for those of us who are already looking at redundancies and other implications it is a very real problem.

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 00:46

kitty, could you refer us to your evidence that "everyone on the outside" can see the EU is a basket case and that we're better off out of it? Only large chunks of the US apparently think we're insane to leave, so it can't be everyone, can it?

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:47

Yep families and friends not talking
Job losses already
Pound at a low
But the op says it's all fine Hmm

GarlicStake · 14/07/2016 00:47

European Parliament president – Martin Schulz.
Elected by: Members of the European Parliament.

European Council president – Donald Tusk.
Appointed by: national leaders (heads of state or government of EU countries).

European Commission president – Jean-Claude Juncker.
Appointed by: national leaders (heads of state or government of EU countries), with the approval of the European Parliament.

President of The Council of the EU - doesn't have a permanent, single-person president. Its work is led by the country holding the Council presidency, which rotates every 6 months.

It's supposed to be the UK's turn in 2017. That will be interesting.

President of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, is not a president of the EU, he's the president of the EU Bank.

All of you who are voicing your vile spiel are no different to any other bigot in this world . We are ALL entitled to our opinions . Just because this lady's are different to yours does not give you the right to be so bloody nasty about her. I voted leave and I would like to bet that I have more brains than most of you. Just remember 52% of the UK voted leave from all corners and I would like to bet that more would have voted leave if they hadn't been frightened to death by the remain camp who all they could come up with in the way of rational was camp FEAR.

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:49

We will all be affected
So much is imported so the weak pound equals higher prices
Even the BBC reporting 320 million lost that was eu money for Manchester
It's a disaster
And not democracy before we get that one
Democracy is not based on lies

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:50

Please learn to use grammar dont
You are just proving our points

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 00:51

donthaveto, have you actually read the thread? Most of us are just trying to find out from OP what it is we should be so happy about. Maybe you could answer that question since she doesn't seem able to?

As for camp fear - the Remain camp were very worried that if we voted leave the pound would come down. Was that scaremongering or was it an accurate prediction?

Whisperingeye1 · 14/07/2016 00:51

Of course everyone feel the consequences but I can only assume that some have not yet due to the optimism!

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 00:51

... and let's hope that all those experts were wrong. What was dubbed 'Project Fear' was, after all, just a range of experts counselling the wisdom of staying in the EU.

The fact that 52% voted to leave does not alter the fact that a majority of expert opinion thought that was not a good option.

At the moment, events do not look good.

But the future remains as unknown as it ever did. Let's hope all those experts were wrong.

donthaveto · 14/07/2016 00:51

'rationale'

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 14/07/2016 00:51

I don't find it hard

How could so many politicians be so out of touch that they thought a referendum would be a good idea (and most supported remain)

Sophie1985 · 14/07/2016 00:52

Kitty. Everyone's an expert when they are angry. And they don't understand why they are angry anymore than the spoon-fed media bullshit they consume will allow them to be. Everyone's a political expert in the last month.
Be optimistic. That's fine. Time will tell.

If nothing else at least you manage to hold an argument without the witless abuse being flung at you. These over dramatic fools moaning they can't now pay their mortgage have no idea what they are talking about. Envy

Whisperingeye1 · 14/07/2016 00:52

everyone will that should have said

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 00:52

To be honest, donthaveto, if you had more brains that the rest of us you would know how to spell "rationale" and how to construct a sentence properly.

Whisperingeye1 · 14/07/2016 00:53

Sophie how do we have no idea what we are talking about?

kitty1976 · 14/07/2016 00:53

There is no reason for families and friends not to talk about this and fall out it's two different opinions. I hope that when article 50is invoked we will leave on good terms and we and Europe will prosper. It's interesting how already European leaders are being much more accommodating in their language bow from a few weeks ago, we will be fine, we will get a good deal it's in all of our interests, and let's have confidence in our country and the people in it even if you don't agree in want people voted for.

OP posts:
Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:53

That's spelling (sigh)
Camp Fear? Is that mean delusion island where the leave camp live?
Well the ones that haven't run away already
The op won't come back with how we will be better off

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/07/2016 00:54

So, still no response to my UN link then, Kitty?

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 00:54

I've said this before, elsewhere but there does seem to be a strand of fallacious thinking knocking about.

Just because 52% of voters decided to vote against a majority expert opinion it doesn't necessarily follow that that expert opinion was incorrect. It remains unchanged.

(Though events do seem to be following the outline predicted by those experts. Which, for some of us, is a little worrying.)
