Brexit

To feel really positive about leaving the EU

I know there has been lots of fear stories but in a few weeks since the vote we have managed to get a new PM who seems more than capable and we are now in control of our destiny without being ruled by an unelected and unaccountable EU. The EU has for a long time been a basket case and has condemned much of the youth of Southern Europe to decades of unemployment, it's a relief to be out. Do remember we are now free to negotiate our own trade deals with the rest of the world and most countries are not in the EU and seem to do well. There have been so many fear stories which have been peddled by self interest. I wonder in 5 years time how many remainers will be asking to rejoin the EU!!

Didn't you notice that we recently had elections for the European Parliament? What do you imagine that was about if it wasn't to elect MEPs?

And are you going to be so happy if or when you go on holiday abroad and find the price of everything has whacked up due to the way the pound has plummeted?

Could you tell us how we are in control of our own destiny? We have no negotiating strength when it comes to leaving the EU, in fact we have no negotiators. If we want to do business with the EU we are going to have to pay them in the same way as Norway does, and basically we have to do that because for sure we aren't going to be able to drum up enough trade elsewhere. We will still be bound by EU rules, the problem is that we will no longer have any influence over them.

Nasty responses are because it is very naive thread when there are people who are already suffering the serious repercussions of this decision.

I do think it's amusing that anyone that has a different view must be poorly educated, surely that is the mistake the remain politicians made; but people who voted remain were educated!! House prices falling is definitely not a bad thing for a lot of people they have been too high for too long.

sooverthis maybe you are right, maybe mumsnet is getting nastier.
But we have become a joke. A complete laughing stock. Just look at what we have become. There is nothing to be positive about really. The OP sounds like a child. I don't want to throw insults around over the Internet but come on, let's all be positive?! Hmm it was foolishness that got us in this mess, burying our heads in the sand will do no good now.

Yep we are going to attempt to be free to negotiate our own trade deals whilst possibly but not definitely securing access to the single market. Whilst extricating ourselves from the thousands of laws that bind us to the EU. Using negotiators that we don't have.

Because that sounds like a simple, straightforward job. Said no-one ever.

Kitty, fgs man. Do yourself a favour and stop replying. 'House prices falling is a good thing'

What a fucking ridiculous thing to say.

House prices falling is a bad thing. Everyone who thinks they will be snapping up a bargain is deluded as no one in negative equity will sell.

We have never had any influence in the EU, look at the concessions Dave came back with!!
It does seem like all the people who voted remain want the economy to tank just to smugly say I told you so in the comments section of the Guardian!!

Kitty- what about my widowed mom? She finally found the strength to put her house on the market, a three bed property which was valued at £200,000 last year, now the local estate agent said less than £140,000!!!
You have to see the bigger picture. This isn't a game. Before we have even left, the damage Brexit has done to our economy is awful and will only get worse when we do leave. I sincerely hope you stau positive, because I sure as hell am not

OK, OP, demonstrate your education, tell us precisely what the plan is to deal with the fallen pound and why we should be feeling optimistic.

I promise you, kitty, I would be utterly delighted if the economy did not tank. Now tell us how that is going to happen.

kitty mate, you don't seem to know much about the EU if you think the UK didn't have much of a say.

Why is it that people who voted remain have all been banded together as smug guardian readers?!

Why can't we just lose the whole remain/leave team crap and

Do you know what- I can't even be arsed to keep typing sorry. It's just too futile.

So in the last five years people have been rightly complaining people can't get on the housing ladder, falling house prices mean they can. But we have no idea if this will happen or not yet, I wish people would stop talking down the economy but they will. The FTSE100 is higher than ever, that says something

The UN has recently concluded that the austerity measure that our government put in to place constitute human rights abuses, and that was with the mitigating factor of EU funding in the poorest areas.

I can find the link for you, if you so wish.
