Are leave voters happy with how this is playing out so far?

Inpsired by Boris Johnson’s sister’s Tweet about people saying we are where we are but nobody having a clue where that is; which group of Leave voters are happy with how things are panning out?

From what I’ve seen the Leave voters seem to fall into these categories, in no particular order:-

  1. People who heard nothing more than the word ‘immigration’ and voted based on all the borders being closed and every immigrant being deported on Friday
  2. People who believed the nonsense touted by the Leave campaign about £350m for the NHS etc
  3. People who voted as a protest to get their voice heard
  4. People who believed leaving the EU was a good thing for their own spurious reasons (to get our own back for Eurovision, to get UK tomatoes, to not have to watch the Euros football, to stop the Germans stealing our sunbeds etc) but had no idea of the other consequences
  5. People who truly believe we should not be governed by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels

Taking each group in turn, I can’t see how they have got what they want

  1. Doesn’t even merit a response as it was such an appalling reason to vote
  2. These have been proven to be lies as soon as the vote was over
  3. This was a self defeating protest as it handed the control to the very people they were protesting against
  4. Some of those people are now worried about job loses, the value of the pound, the drops in the stock market as they didn’t foresee that
  5. There is no plan to get out of the EU- Boris seems to think we can have our cake and eat it but the EU aren’t having that

Is there another group of people who are genuinely happy with the way things are shaping up?

lazy of course you can vote for something that doesn't exist!

You can leave a marriage for something that didn't exist before! You don't know what your future will be - but you do know that you don't want to be with that person anymore.

It's the same thing - we were in a legally binding relationship/partnership that we no longer want to continue.

Why is this so difficult to understand?

But with the exception of Princess Diana, there are only two people in a marriage. In this case we have got to divorce 27.

Some people do say that they regret getting divorced when they find out how difficult it is afterwards. It must depend on how bad the marriage was. Was our marriage with the rest of the EU so bad, that we had to want out at any cost?

"You can leave a marriage for something that didn't exist before!"

People usually don't though, they organise somewhere else to live, pack their stuff or make plans to collect it, that sort of thing. Quite a lot of people get legal advise too.

Unless it has to be a secret because of abuse of course.

But everyone knew when the referendum was, there was plenty of time to make plans.

They couldn't make plans because they knew they couldn't get a majority vote unless they galvanised people with conflicting wishes and interests to vote to leave. Now they know they can't carry out the wishes of "the people," because "the people" all want something different. It would take a real idiot not to have noticed that before the vote. Democracy indicates we should now have a general election as quickly as possible to decide who gets to negotiate us out. Except, of course, the electorate has become unpredictable and that would probably result in more chaos and turmoil and a fantastic platform for the rise of extremist parties of all descriptions. Still, democracy is the most important thing, isn't it? Grin

But the sun still rises, and life carries on. Proving ......?

Well if that's your criterion for a successful Brexit then we'll be grand for at least 3 billion years Grin It's ok everyone, we've been worrying for nothing!

leave the EU and do what we want to do
Sweet! So what is it that we all want to do? Or let's lower the bar a bit - what is it, apart from "Leave the EU" do all the 52% want to do?

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 01/07/2016 07:44

Not a Leave voter and so far its a shambles.

Pretty much as I expected it to be.

We are a laughing stock across the world and the only people celebrating are the far right.

Fabulous innit?

Very happy.
