Some people are pushing for Corbyn to stay, but it's not the electorate...

MitzyLeFrouf · 28/06/2016 18:00

Labour party members would just vote Corbyn in again won't they?

fakenamefornow · 28/06/2016 18:02

Shall I set up Go Fund Me page for David Miliband's airfare?

RedToothBrush · 28/06/2016 18:03

How does Article 7 come into this? If we look at waiting until spring 2017, can the EU be impatient and boot us out?

They can't boot us I think. Article 7 only covers certain circumstances. I don't think we fall into this yet. Unless they say that there has a failing of the democratic process.

Ironically since we appear to have collapsed politically, and now everyone is scrabbling around to sort it out democratically, they really can't argue that democratic process has failed.

I think.

Did Churchill make a massive comeback? I didn't do this at school.

noblegiraffe · 28/06/2016 18:07

Theresa May currently looking like the favourite. Johnson has put in a complaint.

MitzyLeFrouf · 28/06/2016 18:09

Well Churchill had a second bash at PM in the 50s but I don't know if it was a resounding success.

MitzyLeFrouf · 28/06/2016 18:09

Johnson has put in a complaint?

LurkingHusband · 28/06/2016 18:12

Did Churchill make a massive comeback? I didn't do this at school.

Churchills career had more ups and downs than Boris' trousers.

Liberal, Conservative wilderness (after Gallipoli IIRC) ... 1930s doom-monger.

Yet, cometh the hour ...

I have a feeling he is less revered in Wales.

RedToothBrush · 28/06/2016 18:13

Sounds like Corbyn would be happy to split the Labour party:

The people around Corbyn who are advising him actively want to create a crisis. That’s part of their world view. They would be quite happy to have a small rump party under the name Momentum socialists of 15 or so MPs. That would suit them just fine.

Its sounding increasingly like Corbyn really was wanting a Leave vote and his campaigning for Remain was, indeed, a betrayal.

Great idea Fake

Crowdfunding for Millibands returnGrin

PrimalLass · 28/06/2016 18:15

I've skipped a few pages, but am not even sure a second referendum would be a good idea. What's been shown is that we, the people, have no fucking clue. Because there is no answer. I think Parliament have to step in and veto this, in a 'the elecorate cannot have the full facts to make an informed decision' stylee.

Please. Flowers

ReggaeShark · 28/06/2016 18:16

What's Boris complained about?

GingerIvy · 28/06/2016 18:18

Dunno. Parliament voting against it would have repercussions in the long run - and not great ones either, once people vote.

LurkingHusband · 28/06/2016 18:19

Crowdfunding for Millibands return

Actually, that's looking to be a "thing" in the future (I guess part of my job is futurologist ....). It's starting to exert an influence on other areas where "the man" has said "there's no money in that" only to be proved wrong.

I speak as a proud CrowdFunder of Richard Herrings podcasts - great fun and cost me £5.

I'd happily splurge £5 to see a decent selection of candidates for the Labour leadership, while having no interest in joining.

(Obvious scope for abuse by the wealthy noted. Although one suspects anyone with money who backed a winning Labour party may not have that money for long Smile)

GingerIvy · 28/06/2016 18:20

And dear God,NOT Teresa May. She's awful.

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/06/2016 18:20

What is Johnsom complaining about?

Corbyn is increasingly looking a Leninist.

JassyRadlett · 28/06/2016 18:21

This is interesting (from the Graun live blog). Tim Bale at Queen Mary Uni has been doing a study of party membership and new Labour members. Seems many of them are as useful as boobs on a bull:

What is fascinating, however, is that if Labour is to win, it may have to do it largely without much practical help from its new members and registered supporters. Confirming the complaints of many a Labour MP and ward secretary, the newbies might talk (and tweet) a good game, but they don’t necessarily turn up to do the hard yards.

Just over two-thirds of Labour’s post-GE2015 members and supporters (68%) have retweeted, posted or forwarded a message supporting the Labour party on social media and nearly nine out of ten (88%) claim to have signed a petition on behalf of the party. But only 15% of them have participated in door-to-door or telephone canvassing of voters or helped out at a party function, and only 28% of them claimed to have delivered leaflets. Indeed, some 63% said they had put in no time at all on behalf of the party during recent local, mayoral and devolved elections.

^Finally, 61% of Labour’s new members say they have never attended a party meeting – which could mean that MPs worried about their obvious enthusiasm for deselecting those hostile to Jeremy may have less to fear than they might think.

ReggaeShark · 28/06/2016 18:24

Googled Johnson complaint and got this. Sorry it's from The Sun

www.thesun.co.uk/news/1354302/shock-poll-makes-theresa-may-frontrunner-to-be-the-next-prime-minister-after-overtaking-boris-johnson/

MitzyLeFrouf · 28/06/2016 18:26

Johnson complains about dirty tricks?

LurkingHusband · 28/06/2016 18:27

I must admit, given a May/Johnson choice, May would win out slightly. But only on the rather childish grounds that it would be priceless to see BoJos face.

A more serious note would be she would no longer be Home Secretary.

GingerIvy · 28/06/2016 18:27

The only thing good I can say about Teresa May is that she's not Nicky Morgan. Hmm

MitzyLeFrouf · 28/06/2016 18:31

Tom Watson's body language in this video is just the most awkward thing. Bet he wishes he was back at Glasto.

Well, isn't he just helpful. Yes, let's lob that out there, shall we? Hmm
