DoinItFine, yes, you're right about the regulations - but I went back to the paper I read about Britain's trade options, and it really doesn't make the WTO option sound so great.

it could opt to trade with the EU under WTO rules. The UK would not have to comply with EU regulations, but it would face the EU’s Common External Tariff (CET) and substantial NTBs to trade. For example, food imports are subject to an average EU tariff of 15 per cent, while car imports face a 10 per cent tariff, and car components, 5 per cent.
Under this scenario, UK manufactured exports could be hit hard. For example, the EU is easily the biggest market for British car-makers, and the country’s car components industry is fully integrated into pan-EU supply chains.
Indeed, a much higher proportion of UK exports to the rest of the EU take the form of intermediate goods than is the case for Britain’s exports to the rest of the world. These would be much less cost-competitive within Europe if they faced tariffs. UK goods exports to the EU would also be vulnerable to anti-dumping duties

The implications of relying on only WTO rules for Britain’s tradable services industries could be serious. The WTO has made little progress in freeing up trade in services (see ‘trade negotiations’ below), so British firms’ access to the EU’s services market would be limited.

Comments from the Farage petition. Just a few comments to digest and reflect upon their implications...:

If it wasn't for Nigel Forage the Uk would not have had this referendum! He is THE most influential politician this country has EVER seen, half of our population has gained from the tireless work this man has put it to this country for the people. He is the peoples voice.
Linda Boardman, Preston

He is firstly, a human being, who has made mistakes, a common man, not an Eton man!! who understands that England needs to stand on her own two feet and put the 'Great' back into Great Britian
Yvonne Van Heerden, Soham

He's not a cunt
Craig Ashwell, Middleton

He is the ONLY PERSON capable of handling negotiation with the EU.
Diana Donoghue, Eastbourne

Nige deserves a knighthood, his own pub and to be involved with these negotiations
Bob Geldof, London

20 plus years of banging Brexit - the man of common sense and hopefully Prime Minister at the 2020 election
David Clark, Marks Tey

Nigel Farage is the peoples champion and the reason we are still a democracy
Peter Jenkinson, Rotherham

Nigel should be in be kows the EUs dirty tricks and without nigel we wouldn't be here in this glorious position. I voted brexit under nigel farage only NOT Boris or Gove.
If nigel isn't at the table I take that as dirty politics and will vote ukip at the GE
T Lee, Nottingham

can't barrage the farage
Krishan Kuma, West Bromwich

Without Nigel Farage, we would not have had the Referendum. He is master of all things EU, unlike any other politician, and would not take any rubbish during negotiations as Mr Cameron did. He deserves to be at the table, and receive due thanks for his input, dedication and professionalism, ensuring the best deal for Great Britain. Wherever he goes, whatever he says, he is a beacon of light for all to follow
Peter White, Canvey Island

At this crucial point in our history and after a hard fought battle for our independence we NEED someone who only has the interests of England at heart. That man is Nigle Farage.
Lynn Fisher, Broadstone

This man is the best person you could have on board for the negotiations, in Brussels because he has spent years in the Main head quarters, arguing for the benefit of us all. And if you watch some of the videos on you tube you would know that I am saying is true. He does not need a written speech because he always speaks from the knowledge of his experience. He is a well read Man who believes in what he says and keeps calm under pressure. Enough said.
Barry Olliver, Wellington

The British people were tricked into joining the Common Market under the guise of a trading agreement (which I voted NO on) and governments have consistently lied to us since. Without Nigel Farage and UKIP we would never have got this referendum. The Daily Express, belatedly, decided to join that campaign but without Nigel Farage we would still be shackled to Europe and our own spineless politicians seemed happy to turn the key in that lock that would keep us there.
John Hill, Gosberton Clough

I trust Nigel Farage and nobody else
John Durrant, Basildon

Fuck off with Farage. We don't need a racist scum like him.
John Doe, Englewood NJ, USA.

Sad God help us.

MitzyLeFrouf · 28/06/2016 15:15

Argh the comments!

Fourormore · 28/06/2016 15:18

Bob Geldof?

Cosmiccreepers203 · 28/06/2016 15:21

Lurking That's brilliant. I'd like to recommend your comment x 350 million

DoinItFine · 28/06/2016 15:28

If it wasn't for Nigel Forage the Uk would not have had this referendum!

Arguably true.

He is THE most influential politician this country has EVER seen

Considering he has never been an MP, this is worryingly accurate.

Oh good god.

Chalalala

Yeah, I'm only really suggesting it in a "burn it all down" kind of way.

I think we are properly fucked if we leave the EU.

I think if we're fucked we might as well go it alone, see what we can buod out of the ashes.

The city has distorted the economy for too long.

It's pretty much fucked now anyway.

Maybe the way forward is radical rebuilding of what is now a totally broken society.

What I hope will happen is a Scotland/NI deal. But it's a very long shot.

LurkingHusband · 28/06/2016 15:31

If it wasn't for Nigel Forage

Grubbing for votes ?

InShockReally · 28/06/2016 15:34

God there are lots. Including one slightly more encouraging one to prosecute Nigel Farage under the Racial and Religious Hatred Act.

Can we start a petition to NOT let him at the table? Or is that futile in every which way?

Chalalala · 28/06/2016 15:40

DoinItFine

Oh I see where you're coming from. It does make some sort of desperate sense. Not going to lie, I hope there are still alternatives.

(And never thought I'd see the day when I, as a French person, would be recommending compromise over revolution to a Brit. It truly is the End Of Times.)

GingerIvy · 28/06/2016 15:45

There's an online petition doing the rounds to ensure that Farage is involved in the Brussels negotiations. I think after today's statesmanlike performance we can all see what an asset he'd be to securing the UK's new future........

I don't know... perhaps they could use him like a "good cop/bad cop" scenario during negotiations.

"Look I WANT to give you what you want, but my partner here... well, he's not happy.. wouldn't you rather deal with me? No? Well, okay, i'm going to step out for a coffee, but my partner Nigel here can chat with you while I'm gone...." Grin

RedToothBrush · 28/06/2016 15:50

Inshock, if you start a petition against it you legitimise the one for it.

This is the problem.

When you see that comments say things like 'beacon of light' its really really troubling.

You notice how he has repeatedly tried to make out he is some kind of victim. The brainwashing is epic. As I say, a little bit of hope is a dangerous thing.

Our choices:

Have NF at the dinner table with Merkel and Hollande, knowing that he will fuck it up and then he takes shared responsibility for it being crap. Except he won't because he'll blame it on everyone else and will be believed by his supporters. And to be honest, I think if he was included the most likely outcome would walk out half way through saying whoever was negotiating was selling us down river. This is a man who says no deal at all is better than a shit deal afterall.

Don't have NF at the dinner table and have this seen as 'dirty politics', and when whoever comes back with the shit deal we are going to get he can use that to capitalise with. But the deal might be better than the one we'd get if we had NF shouting his mouth off and pissing off everyone.

He can't loose.

The man is after number 10...

I'm Irish, so more of a reputation for hotheadedness!

I think we need to be reallly clear that nobody on that rogue's gallery will negotiate in the interests of the working people of the EU.

As for Monsieur Forage? Lord save us and guard us, as my Granny used to say.

RedToothBrush · 28/06/2016 15:54

I'm English.
I have no such excuse.

You bastards.

Except he'd even make a shit Bad Cop. He's so petulant. Bad Cops need to be hard asses, not stroppy teenage boys. And they're often a bit sexy. Nul point for Nige's sex appeal!

(I've seen people on MN say they fancy Putin (!) but this week I could not cope with someone piping up to say they actually quite fancy Nige)

DoinItFine · 28/06/2016 15:58

We need a new thread!!!

Hmmm, Red, I wonder...

Would Forage really piss her off?

I mean, yes.

But would she get why he was there? Yes, she would.

So would Juncker.

The know Forage's form and thst he has no mandate insude the UK.

Could it work to neutralise him?

Dangerous game.

But I'm feeling reckless now Grin

DoinItFine · 28/06/2016 16:00

Nul point for Nige's sex appeal!

Nige is only 50!

He pretends to be this old git, but he's not.

Ugh.

Loathsome man.

MitzyLeFrouf · 28/06/2016 16:01

This photo reminded me of Godfather II where Michael Corleone hugs his brother Fredo before having him bumped off. In a fishing lake I think. Tell Forage to be careful if invited on a pedalo.

Has Boris been outmanoevered? Will someone please tell me who is in charge?
MitzyLeFrouf · 28/06/2016 16:02

I always forget he's only 50. Younger than Brad Pitt!

DoinItFine · 28/06/2016 16:04

Turning down a pedalo ride is a grave insult on the continent.

RedToothBrush · 28/06/2016 16:08

Farage and Juncker get into a punch up.
Who do you support?

OP posts:
GingerIvy · 28/06/2016 16:09

I'd have to say Farage, as he'd likely buy the beer in the pub afterwards, whereas I can't see Juncker doing that. Grin

New thread:

Juncker by miles.

I don't believe in Nigel's pub schtick.

GingerIvy · 28/06/2016 16:12

Why new thread? My count says 499 msgs, don't we go to 1000?

GingerIvy · 28/06/2016 16:13

Don't care bout his pub schtick, I'd just like a beer. I could use one. Grin
