The margin by which Leave won is too small to base such a huge decision on. This needs to be debated further especially now it's clear many people based their decision on misrepresentations made by Brexit campaigners on immigration and spending on NHS or made a protest vote.

Johnson is continuing with the myths claiming Britain will still be in Europe. Of course we will be geographically but that's all!

The referendum was advisory and not legally binding. If you want to stay in the EU please email your MP today.

Absolutely Colly, do it!

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 14:46

OurBlanche that is not why they are quitting. They have lost confidence in Corbyn and no not trust him or his ability to move the party forward and be in a position to be a strong alternative goverment

OurBlanche · 27/06/2016 14:51

OK... so you didn't read what I wrote and she didn't use the words I heard her say! That's fine!

A4Document · 27/06/2016 14:59

No need for all those patronising remarks Showme.

A4 did you know there are people out there that analyse how economics, markets and political societies work?

Of course. There are also people who know what real democracy is.

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 15:05

OurBlanch that is one of many MP's that have resigned - the real story is is that are resigning because they need to rebuild the labour party. Corbyn was never that popular within the PLP and they know they will not win with him in place

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 15:08

A4 I don't understand your point. Yo asked how could things be documented before they happened - I merely explained. Our sovereignty is held by Parliament - not the people. The referendum is technically not binding.

OurBlanche · 27/06/2016 15:10

that is one of many MP's that have resigned Which is what I said the post you are objecting to! One

Weird. Even when pp agree with you they disagree!

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 15:13

OurBlanch I didn't object to your post - I was saying that the real reason they were quitting no matter what they said was to oust Corbyn. Truce?

AuntDotsie · 27/06/2016 15:14

At least one of them this morning seemed to say that they are quitting because of their principles. That will be the principle that when your electorate disagree with you you just walk away!

Well, technically they can no longer represent the will of their constituents, so it's the right thing to do, innit?

Although I don't for one second believe that's what's happening. I don't know what to make of Labour at the moment. On the one hand, Corbyn has a huge popular mandate. He's standing on that and sticking two fingers up to the establishment. I kinda respect that. On the other hand, his remain campaign was less than half-hearted and I think that has played at least some kind of role in the leavers winning, leading to this current farce of an opposition party. I kinda don't respect that at all. Realpolitik will have to swing back into place eventually. Or will it?

Interesting times.

OurBlanche · 27/06/2016 15:28

Truce Smile

It just annoys me that so many politicians are walking away from their posts when we really could do with them acting in the best interests of the party/country. Work from the inside instead of shouting from the sidelines.

bridgetoc · 27/06/2016 15:30

These remainers are really childlike in their stupidity aren't they!

Collymollypuff · 27/06/2016 15:37

That's your sole contribution to a wide-ranging debate about the UK constitution and the nature of democracy, bridgetoc? Well, I bow to your superior intelligence in that case.

FirstShinyRobe · 27/06/2016 17:30

There have been resignations from the shadow cabinet - no-one has resigned as an mp, have they?

If you don't want a 2nd referendum, don't include that in your letter to your MP. Just lend your support for non - invocation of Article 50. Perhaps if they know they have constituency support, they may be emboldened to get stuck in.

What Boris wants (or knows all we can achieve) is more of the same but with less influence. Why that would be the case, I have no idea. And why anyone else would agree with him is even more beyond me.

Which will still be full of ineligible voters, made up people and computer BOTS filling in names from the electoral roll. Grin

OurBlanche · 27/06/2016 17:45

no-one has resigned as an mp, have they? Don't think so. Apologies if my morning post added an extra layer of confusion Smile

It doesn't have to be a 2nd referendum to stop Brexit.

GideonTheGreat · 27/06/2016 17:53

Sorry, RTFT and realise someone beat me to it.

PortiaCastis · 27/06/2016 17:54

This is from the bbc regarding the petition

www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-36640459

Collymollypuff · 27/06/2016 17:55

Well, I'm sorry the govt system for petitioning is held in such low regard. Grin

I like this bit from the Guardian piece:

So how should MPs vote come November, when Prime Minister Boris Johnson introduces the 2016 European Communities Act (Repeal) Bill? Those from London and Scotland should happily vote against it, following their constituents’ wishes. So should Labour MPs – it’s their party policy after all.

I'll bloody well make sure my London MP votes the right way.

neverknowinglywrong · 27/06/2016 17:57

Cameron has confirmed today that there will be no second referendum and that a unit has been set up to work out the best strategy for leaving the EU.

Collymollypuff · 27/06/2016 17:59

Lol at hackers taking a shower....... Grin I didn't think they went in for that sort of thing. Grin

PortiaCastis · 27/06/2016 18:13

Lol at the signatures from Vatican City

LaContessaDiPlump · 27/06/2016 18:23

I have already emailed mine. Good work spreading the word op :)

the pound at a thirty-year low against the dollar. the pound has been overvalued for about two years now, have a lower £ is good for companies which earn profits overseas, especially pharmaceuticals, manufacturing etc they just got a 10% pay rise. The dollar is also widely reported as being too strong atm and will cause problems for the US economy.
- the UK's credit rating cut from 'stable' to 'negative'. by Moody's, but yields on bonds (uk government debt) are falling suggesting the markets still think uk govt debt is a safe bet and they are buying it up
- Scotland overwhelmingly likely to leave the UK. the Eu would have to accept them first and given their small population, oil rig decommissioning costs on the horizon, low oil price, etc they are not a very appealing prospect to an organisation which has more net beneficiaries than net contributors. Your comment is rather hysterical and unrealistic.
- total, utter chaos in two major political parties, with leadership battles diverting all energy and attention. (And if you think this is great clean sweep and all then you're painfully mistaken. This is the kind of vicious disarray that allows the most ambitious, ruthless and opportunistic to grab power.) can't argue with that! Grin
- nobody managing or taking clear responsibility for Brexit negotiations. a brexit dept has been created, Francis Maude is willing to consult on trade negotiations which is very good news. We are have time to sort out our domestic government before triggering article 50 that sounds like sensible management to me given we are only 3 days in.
- clear indications that EU side of Brexit negotiations intends to be fast-paced and hostile. only the unelected commissioners are behaving like that, merkel and Hollande have been far more conciliatory, because guess what? we are a really good customer of theirs! They still want to trade as do we.
I could go on.... But I have other things to do, I would just suggest rum and othersreads a bit more widely and looks at what people are actually doing rather than what the media are saying - bad news sells!!!
