The margin by which Leave won is too small to base such a huge decision on. This needs to be debated further especially now it's clear many people based their decision on misrepresentations made by Brexit campaigners on immigration and spending on NHS or made a protest vote.

Johnson is continuing with the myths claiming Britain will still be in Europe. Of course we will be geographically but that's all!

The referendum was advisory and not legally binding. If you want to stay in the EU please email your MP today.

OP posts:
TheLionSleepsAha · 27/06/2016 08:54

Yabu. This is a democracy! If the party you support loses the next election will you propose the outgoing PM locks himself in 10 Downing Street because those stupid voters didn't understand what they were voting for?

So you fancy moving to North Korea or Zimbabwe? The politics may suit you better, no need to listen to the people there Grin

RebootYourEngine · 27/06/2016 08:58

I am a bit fed up of hearing about the EU and the referendum.

I completely agree Nanny. We have to make the best of whats to come.

MaidOfStars · 27/06/2016 08:59

would you be encouraging similar letters to MPs if the result had been the other way round? Be honest
Not addressed to me but as someone with the same view as the OP, I'll answer 'No'. Why would I? But I'd understand if Leavers wanted to urge reluctant Remainers to do so. That's their right to do so.

And let's be honest again. Do YOU think if the result had been Remain, Farage and his campaign would have gone away?

P1nkP0ppy · 27/06/2016 08:59

And just what would that achieve op?
My MP is for Leave.........

Laptopontable · 27/06/2016 09:00

It's easy to say let it go, get over it and calm down etc when you're not worried about your children and people you love being subjected to the racism that this result has made acceptable.

Parietal · 27/06/2016 09:00

I agree, do write to your MP about anything that concerns you. it is good to be politically active.

I don't think calling for a new referendum right now is going to be much help. However, no politician has yet pressed the red button and invoked Article 50. The timing of that critical step is the one and only lever that the UK government has left in the EU. so we need to use it very carefully, and get our own domestic politics sorted before doing anything else.

So calling for a delay in any EU negotiations and some clear policies from both parties on what they actually want now would be good. Especially from Leave who have so far retracted most of their promises and admitted they have no plan.

mrsmuddlepies · 27/06/2016 09:01

I think we should write and push for a referendum on the eventual new 'deal' with Europe. Probably will be at least six months to a year down the line. Johnson/May is/are going to try to negotiate a Norway in/out deal with regards to trade and we should have the right to vote on these potential, probably controversial deals.

TheLionSleepsAha · 27/06/2016 09:02

maid informed decisions?! What like asking leave voters to write an essay on what it means for them? What will count as a pass? Also we'd better check that remain voters understood, I've heard some say they think they won't be able to shop at Aldi anymore Confused and they are buying croissants while the supermarkets still sell them Confused

Maybe just take away the vote from certain sectors of society, women? The poor?

Let's just do away with democracy, you can rename yourself Robert Mugabe Grin

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 09:02

OP - the backlash you have had on this thread is revolting

Yes everyone it is a democracy which is why it is a GOOD idea to write to your MP. It would also be a GOOD idea if some on this thread bothered to understand that currently we have absolutely no way forward on this referendum decision at the moment

Read what the BOZO has written - he has no plan, no timescale at all. Anyone elected as the new leader of the Torys would be taking a poison challis of delivering Article 50. Oh and we wouldn't have elected them at the the last GE as the PM - fair? Nope. Morally undemocratic yes

So why not use your anger towards those who deserve it - Leavers and Remainers - to BOZO, Gove et al. Not someone who is trying to have their voice heard about the whole sorry mess

Asprilla11 · 27/06/2016 09:03

Yes please write you your MP about this;

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/eu_referendum_2016_/2671677-EU-Referendum-Racists-and-Xenophobes?

But not the outcome of the vote.

Fluffy40 · 27/06/2016 09:04

MPs have started their three month holiday, don't hold your breath

DailyMailEthicalFail · 27/06/2016 09:04

"For goodness sake. We lost. They won. It's a Done Deal. It's not Best of Three or Keep Going till It's the 'Right' Result."

NannyOgg - well, it IS in Scotland.
Think of us, hey, we are about to face our 3rd sodding Referendum in 2 yrs.

And, a million Scots voted Leave. Moray's result was less than 1% leave.
Scotland is no more united than England.
We are still reeling from the last IndyRef and now our great leader (megalomanic) wants to hold another. (only she doesn't really want it now owing to the oil price which was what the last one was posited on, and look what happened there).

So, Cameron is responsible for the exit from the EU AND the break up of the UK. Granted, he is scooting back under his rock pronto, but he started all this, because he couldn't unite his own party and wanted to stabilise his career.

Sturgeon doesn't have the 'will of the Scottish people' at heart, and certainly not the English. She just wants a power trip too.

Unforgivable.

AntiqueSinger · 27/06/2016 09:07

I'll do it today OP. May not make much difference but I'll do what I can.

To those saying let it be etc., Let me tell you that everyone of my close friends who include Jewish, hungarian, polish and Lebanese backgrounds culturally, feels less welcome in Britain as a result of this decision. We now appear to be a nation less tolerant than we were at the very least. The fact that the Leave campaign was also fought on Immigration as a central issue, with Farage at the helm, has legitimised and emboldened racial prejudicial attitudes for a fair few hitherto secretly racist and overtly racist people, and bolstered the argument of the far right across Europe. I truly believe Winston Churchill would be turning in his grave, and so no, looking at the way the world is going and considering my DCs I do not think such a decision should have gone through on such a slim majority and will do what I can to change it.

Not to to mention the effect on people's mortgages and house prices, economy. Never thought I'd see the day when I would be upset to see house prices fall, considering I'll never own one.

Nanny0gg · 27/06/2016 09:09

It's easy to say let it go, get over it and calm down etc when you're not worried about your children and people you love being subjected to the racism that this result has made acceptable.

It hasn't made it acceptable. It's made what was always there, louder. But it's still as wrong as it was before. So yes, that needs addressing. But another referendum won't do that.

We cannot ask for a Do-Over every time things don't go 'our' way.

SheHasAWildHeart · 27/06/2016 09:09

Did anyone hear the woman on Radio 4 this morning who said she voted Leave as a protest vote, and said she never expected us to leave the EU and now wants to change her vote? I had to switch off coz her stupidity was hard to handle.

MaidOfStars · 27/06/2016 09:10

TheLionSleeps Sorry, I wasn't really pushing for the 'Leave voters are all stupid and racist' angle. The only Leave voters I know would be delighted with the currently likely Norway model - free movement, single market, make our own laws, at an acceptable cost bith financially and in terms of veto. I've not called any Leave voter at any point any kind of name.

What I'm advocating is disgruntled Leave voters - those who voted on the £350m NHS lie, or on the premise that freedom of movement would be stopped - might want to consider writing to their MP instead of ranting here. I'd also recommend that any voter of either party who is concerned (understatement) about the empty nature of the vote - we haven't actually voted FOR anything, IYSWIM - can outline those concerns to their MP.

I'm not suggesting anyone posts a shit.

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 09:11

Antique

As will I - I will also be writing to my local Labour Party and the PLP. It seems that so many people would rather rip each other apart than stand united against the mess we are in

This is not Remainers vs Leavers - none of us will get what we want out of this - read BOZO's statement

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 09:13

Nanny do you think you will get what you want from this? There is no plan - at all. What will be achieved? How and when?

BumbleNova · 27/06/2016 09:13

I will be writing to my MP - but about the transition and things I'm concerned about. I need to do some research, but I'm pretty sure EU law gives us much of our employment rights, if (inc maternity and paternity leave) so I'd like my MP to make sure its being discussed.

nagynolonger · 27/06/2016 09:14

I would like to think our MP have more important things on their minds this morning.

Please Miss, Please Sir.........I didn't get what I wanted.

Those who 'sort of wanted out of EU' but really wanted to stick one on the Tories will turn out at the next election. Lots have enjoyed the debate. If the Tories and Labour (God help us!) can't sort something out of this there will be lots of UKIP elected next time. I really don't think the London lot have a bloody clue.

MaidOfStars · 27/06/2016 09:16

What will UKIP's platform be?

EveOnline2016 · 27/06/2016 09:16

Why are the remain camp voice more important that the leave camp.

OurBlanche · 27/06/2016 09:20

UKIP won't have a platform... their job is done.

They may reform with yet another name and continue with another issue. But Independence won't be it... well, not unless England want to go Indy - we could invite Wales to come with us Smile

AntiqueSinger · 27/06/2016 09:22

Those who 'sort of wanted out of EU' but really wanted to stick one on the Tories will turn out at the next election.

What makes you think this, considering that many of those stupid enough to vote out purely because of 'wanting to stick it to the tories' probably didn't truly understand the issues, arguments, and ramifications of voting out, and had never previously voted in any elections?

These are the same people who failed to turn out and 'stick it to the tories' less than 2 years ago.

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 09:22

Eve Do you understand what a mess we are in? This isn't winning or losing a vote. You haven't won! You have been duped
